War in Ukraine live: French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrives in Kyiv

Ukraine equips itself with drones

Ukraine has bought nearly 1,400 drones, mostly models for reconnaissance missions, and plans to develop combat models to be able to attack the explosive drones used by the Russians in invading the country, the Ukrainian technology executive announced.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov described the war in Ukraine as the first major conflict of the internet age. He believes that drones and satellite-based internet access systems like Elon Musk’s Starlink have helped resolve this conflict.

“The next step, now that we are more or less equipped with reconnaissance drones, are combat drones,” continued Mykhaïlo Fedorov.

Russian authorities have assured that several of their military bases have been attacked by Ukrainian drones in recent weeks. Moscow reported Monday shooting down a drone approaching Engels Air Force Base, located more than six hundred kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

The Ukrainian authorities have never officially confirmed having carried out such actions on Russian territory.
