Each year, National Forest Week in the United States celebrates the 193 million acre National Forest System and the benefits it brings to the public.
Irving Woodlands, LLC’s US operations span 519,208 hectares in northern Maine and balance the company’s needs with the long-term vision needed to support generations of healthy, fast-growing and resilient forests.
JD Irving, Limited’s award-winning volunteer conservation program began in Maine in the 1980’s and today spans 2,001 locations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Maine. This program protects areas of diverse value and the company is proud to conserve 3,046 hectares of unique forest stands and areas of high conservation value.
Irving Woodlands, LLC ensures that its managed forests benefit all equally. In Maine, forest health goals are guided by the criteria and goals set forth in the Maine Forest Service’s Results-Based Forestry Act. This approach allows for a competitive timber supply for Maine’s mills, a 31% reduction in the number of roads built, and an overall improvement in forest health through reduced mortality and losses from disease and wind damage. Scientifically based harvest regulations and management ensure thriving, species-rich working forests for all.
