“In the last few weeks I have been hunted, enchanted and impersonated a million times on the internet. It was pure torture, thanks,” recounts Ortega’s character in advance, according to the video broadcast by Netflix on social networks, announcing the second part of the story.
The series, directed by Tim Burton, was originally planned as a limited eight-part story, but the worldwide success it brought prompted its creators to move on with a second installment.
However, there is still no further information about the plot or the challenges that the macabre daughter of “Mad Addams” has to face.
The series became the most-watched English-language production in a single week in Netflix history, with 341.2 million viewing hours, surpassing Stranger Things season 4, which had 335.
Some time later, “Wednesday” managed to become one of the biggest hits in Netflix history, having watched 1,237 million hours on the platform in its first 28 days on the air.
This put the production in second place among the streaming company’s most popular English-language products.
The series also had a strong impact on social media, as the dance performed by the protagonist to The Cramps’ song “Go Go Muck” was imitated by millions of users who danced the choreography dressed as the character, which is also known as Wednesday or Merlina in Spanish.
In addition to Ortega, “Wednesday” stars Catherine Zeta Jones, Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday and Naomi J Ogawa, among others.
