Classic nutcracker
It is the great Christmas classic, the story of little Clara, who receives a nutcracker in the shape of a soldier. The 45 dancers from the Grands Ballets canadiennes and around a hundred students from the École supérieure de Ballet du Québec take the stage to perform Hoffman's famous fairy tale to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, choreographed by Fernand Nault. The show requires 350 costumes.

The family show Camping is coming to Tohu over the holidays.
The Théâtre à Tempo de Québec is coming to Tohu over the holidays with an entertaining family show themed around vacation and summer. Camping, a creation of Geneviève Kérouac, toured Europe before landing in Montreal. We are promised an entertaining mix of acrobatics, dance and music, all with a touch of nostalgia, generously seasoned with humor.

Contemporary art, Christmas market version
The photo provided here is not a market
Snow by Florence Leblanc Dubois
It's a formal Christmas market, but more of an opportunity to discover the works of a dozen artists. They are all women and their arts span multiple disciplines: textile works, engravings, drawings, photos… It is also an opportunity to start an art collection, say the organizers of this extraordinary mini-market, the artist Delphine Huguet and the curator Mylène Lachance-Paquin . Or give gifts. Entry is free and curiosity is strongly encouraged.
From December 14th to 16th behind the Alambika boutique at 6484 Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal.

Majid Jordan
Canadian duo Majid Jordan may never match the success of their 10-year collaboration with Drake, Hold On, We're Going Home, but they still deliver some seriously entertaining pop and R&B beats. This Friday, December 15th, singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman will be at MTelus to bring their catchy, feel-good music to Montreal audiences. Still on Drake's OVO Sound label, the group released the album Good People, perfect for the season, in November, and an expanded version called Afterhours a few weeks later. Alex Lustig, who notably launched the EP Dive with Milk & Bone in 2019, will provide the opening act.

Pairing wine and canvas
PHOTO PROVIDED BY ISABELLE BENOIT
We are excited: The Surf & Turf exhibition event combines art and wine. And also gastronomy, because it is at the center of the life and work of the painter Isabelle Benoit. She was the initiator of this project, in which she exhibits around fifteen of her paintings, grouped into religious services such as a meal. Guillaume Laliberté, sommelier and co-founder of Lieux Communes, a group of local winemakers, signs the art wine agreement. The public is therefore invited to visit the exhibition and at the same time taste the vintage that accompanies the paintings. Starting with the creation of lieux communes, then the discovery of other wines and even a beer, because all this takes place at the WILLS brewery.

Catherine Durand and Mara Tremblay
When Mara Tremblay and Catherine Durand started the Hauterive project last spring, they certainly didn't expect to do so many shows. But the musical and likeable duo have been on the road a lot over the last six months with their excellent Americana repertoire. The two singer-songwriters will give their last two of four performances at the Salle Claude-Léveillée at Place des Arts on December 15th and 16th and then go on tour again in 2024.

In the cinema: Caravaggio
Art and history are at the heart of Italian filmmaker Michele Placido's latest film. In Caravaggio he tells the life of the painter Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, the master of chiaroscuro, who was accused of murder and blasphemy in the early 16th century. This genius of Baroque painting, played by Riccardo Scamarcio, fled Rome and took refuge in Naples to avoid beheading. Louis Garrel and Isabelle Huppert are also part of the cast of this historical drama.
Caravaggio is presented at the Cinéma du Musée and the Cinéma Beaubien in the original Italian version with French subtitles.
