More like lucky dice.
A graduate student and barista showed an interesting flexibility in response to a bizarre request from Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak.
“Take something out of your pocket,” Nathan Benson of Plano, Texas was told by Sajak.
The accounting student nonchalantly pulled a jumbled Rubik’s Cube from his jacket pocket and began solving the multicolored square while continuing his conversation with Sajak.
An eager Sajak asked Benson what the record was for solving the cube quickly, to which the barista replies, “Something like three and a half seconds,” revealing that he’s much slower at solving the Rubik’s cube with his eyes open.
“I’m really good at solving it blindfolded and I even have a record in the state of Texas for solving it blindfolded,” Benson humbly boasted to the host.
After being asked by Sajak to pull out what’s in his pocket, Benson quickly solved the brain puzzle in under 30 seconds.ABC
Before Sajak could ask another question, the contestant solved the riddle.
Benson solved the brain teaser live on air in about 15 seconds and proudly held up the speed feat for the audience to notice.
After solving his pocket puzzle, Benson set about solving the remaining puzzles in the game and was crowned the episode’s winner – winning nearly $30,000.
Benson was then sent into the bonus round where he failed to solve the puzzle after selecting the four letters “DBCO”.
Benson solved the cube with ease while continuing his conversation with Sajak. ABC Benson told Sajak that his true cube-solving ability comes when he is blindfolded. ABC If Benson had won the bonus round, his prize would have been a new Ford Mustang. ABC
The puzzle ended with “Qualified judge” – and to Benson’s credit, he guessed the word “judge.”
Sajak, 76, who has hosted “Wheel of Fortune” since 1981, gave fans of the game show a break on two separate occasions earlier this week.
On Tuesday, the host put contestant Fred Jackson in a playful chokehold after completing a perfect game.
Before Jackson took home a total of $75,800 from the game and bonus round and was grabbed by Sajak, he mentioned to the host that he’s a professional wrestler who does the sport “for fun.”
On Wednesday, Sajak annoyed another contestant who had some trouble solving the puzzle, prompting the player to “solve the damn puzzle”.
