The spread of Russian megayachts
The mysteries surrounding the yachts of the Russian oligarchs, who are being hunted by the authorities of Western countries and poised to confiscate the boats of the superrich in ports around the world, continue to deepen.
After the confiscations already carried out in Britain and Germany and the words of American President Joe Biden, who announced that the United States and allied countries are ready, if necessary, to confiscate the assets of Russian citizens who support Russian President Vladimir Putin there was one real scatter of megayachts around the world.
The American news agency Bloomberg has conducted an investigation into the current positions of the yachts of Russian oligarchs, who leave tourist destinations to flee to the ports of “friendly” countries that do not impose sanctions. It’s not an easy feat, given that early in the conflict many turned off the transponder, a device that shares the realtime movements of the boat it’s on with coastal authorities. In some cases, the newspaper used leaks (the source of which is not given) or reports on social networks from users who spotted the yachts.
In addition to the luxury boat anchored in Marina di Carrara in Tuscany, which is believed to belong to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the “Nord, one of the largest in the world, is said to also belong to sanctioned billionaire Alexey. Mordashov sighted near Singapore en route north towards Russian territory.
