Carlos Stein was founded on March 6, 2012 in the District of José Leonardo Ortiz, Chiclayo, Lambayeque. The club started out in the third division of that city’s district league and before long they were appearing at national level in the Copa Peru before winning the title and promotion to the first division in 2019. It has played two seasons in league 1 and this year 2023 it goes to the second league 2.
Why is the club called Carlos Stein?
As mentioned above, Carlos Stein is not named after any specific person or its founder and/or president. In fact, the name of the person who created the team is Arturo Rodríguez Segundo. Mr. Rodríguez was the key for the Carlists to reach professional football in the medium term. With his financial support, he saved the club from a difficult time in 2015.
The team’s name is due to the place where they grew up and which includes the neighbors who had the initiative to create it. The Carlos Stein Chávez urbanization is located in the José Leonardo Ortiz district, where it joins Av. Chiclayo. In that sense, the club’s leap from neighborhood team to professionalism in less than a decade is a laudable achievement.

What happened to Carlos Stein?
Unfortunately, Arturo Rodríguez passed away unexpectedly when the club had not yet managed to reach the more advanced stages of the Peru Cup. Despite this, his important role and contribution led to Carlos Stein’s official jersey for each season henceforth bearing his photo and name next to the tag.
As we recall, Carlos Stein managed to save the category on the pitch in his first season in League 1 in 2020, but Alianza Lima’s claim condemned them to play in League 2. The team returned to first place after defeating Binacional in the 2021 revalidation, but a very poor campaign once again doomed them to relegation. Currently, the Carlist club is preparing for League 2 2023 under the command of Marcelo Vivas.
