Why Germany is particularly suitable for Austrian cyclists

For Austrian cyclists, Germany is currently probably one of the best options among all neighboring countries. At least this applies if you have your own bicycle and want to take it to the starting point of a European tour, and not by car, but by train – for climate protection reasons, for example. On the other hand, anyone thinking of heading off to Italy by night train for a tour of Tuscany on their own bike will be disappointed. Very few Austrian Nightjets carry bicycles; On Italian routes this is not possible (or only possible during the day). Even on a Nightjet tour to Paris, which is very bike-friendly today, the motto is: take your bike with you? None! Only night trains to destinations outside Austria, Zurich, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Berlin carry bicycles. Even with these connections there is a limitation: with the exception of the connection to Amsterdam, there are only three (!) bicycles per train.
