Work: Quebec announces reform of job system –

The Legault government wants to start the project of modernizing professional codes and expanding the professions by launching consultations next fall on this first reform of Quebec’s professional system in 50 years.

At least that’s what the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, announced in a press release on Friday and explained that this project would be carried out in cooperation with the Office des Professions du Québec and the Conseil interprofessionnel du Québec.

This reform, which comes against the backdrop of labor shortages, will be implemented in three parts, including regulatory facilitations to allow the professional codes to be aligned with Office des Professions guidelines.

In addition to modernizing the professional code, the reform also aims to broaden the range of professions with a view to greater agility, so that certain professionals can offer more services to the population.

“My goals are clear: to give the Office of Professions the necessary powers to play its full role as a guardian of public trust, while providing greater regulatory flexibility to orders,” said Ms. LeBel.

“If we want the Orders to fulfill their main mission, the system needs to be made more agile and modern,” she said, adding that the professional system is “ripe for a thorough review.”
