‘Workaholics’ movie canceled weeks ahead of schedule

Adam DeVine said Paramount+ told the comedy outfit that they “do not fit in with their new ‘global strategy'”.

According to a new message from comedy outfit member Adam DeVine, the Workaholics movie was canceled five weeks before filming began.

“Welp, Paramount+ has decided to cancel the Workaholics movie,” DeVine wrote on Instagram on Monday, Jan. 9. “Obviously this news is the loosest asshole. We were supposed to start filming in 5 weeks! P+ told us [we] don’t fit with their new ‘global’ strategy.”

Workaholics enjoyed a seven-year run on Comedy Central, debuting in 2011 and ending in 2017. The show revolved around the surreal, stunted teenage antics of a trio of college friends — DeVine and his co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm — who are still living together after high school. The Workaholics film was given the green light back in 2021.

“We are deeply hurt by this decision because we were so excited to bring the weird one last time,” DeVine added in his statement. “It hurts me so much that I can no longer work with my best friends. I’m hurting for the fans, and I’m hurting for our loyal crew and other cast members who are now struggling to find new jobs.”

Despite Paramount+’s decision, all hope is not lost. The Workaholics crew pitches the project to fellow streamers, with DeVine saying, “Hopefully we can do this insanely funny movie somewhere else.” He also noted that he, Anderson, Holm and their longtime off-screen collaborator Kyle Newacheck will be in tomorrow will talk about the film and its fate on a new episode of their podcast, This Is Important.
