Opening the event, he highlighted the support of the Abu Dhabi authorities for the management of ICA around the world and highlighted the opportunity provided by this meeting of archivists and information conservators from around the world, especially with the key players in the region.
This meant that this is the most important forum for institutions dedicated to the management of archives, documents and information, which is why it is an exceptional moment to share best practices, lessons learned and the current challenges that accompany this work.
The director of the National Archives of Luxembourg explained that the forum will include more than 300 presentations, workshops and conferences until October 13 on topics such as new technologies, climate change, peace and tolerance.
In his opinion, this meeting with more than a thousand delegates from around 135 countries will be unforgettable due to the great diversity of those present and he recalled that the meeting should have taken place in 2020 but the Covid-19 pandemic did not allow this.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the Board of the National Library and Archives of the United Arab Emirates, HE Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Al Midfa, expressed his wish that the event will be a great platform to discuss the great responsibility of specialists in this field discuss the protection of humanity’s historical memory and its preservation.
The senior Emirati official urged those present to work together to protect people’s memory and encourage young people to take part in global efforts to document and archive the past, which will help them face the future.
He pointed out that for several years the National Library of his country has been implementing various measures that allow it to preserve its archives and documents and adapt to the advances of the world and the use of new technologies to face current challenges.
The Congress encourages direct contacts with key players in the Middle East at a time of unprecedented interest in the areas of archive management and digital document preservation.
The International Council on Archives is dedicated to promoting the efficient and effective management and use of documents, archives and data in all formats and their preservation as the cultural and evidentiary heritage of humanity.
In this sense, ICA promotes international collaboration through the exchange of professional experiences, research results and ideas on the management and organization of archives and related institutions.
