The Nebraska volleyball team set an attendance record for a women’s sporting event on Wednesday.
More than 92,003 spectators packed Memorial Stadium, a soccer stadium that was converted into a volleyball court for the occasion.
Two games were shown at this volleyball festival. Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State universities played a preseason game, while Nebraska and Omaha played a regular season game.
Memorial Stadium can accommodate 85,000 people for a football game, but because the volleyball field is smaller, it was possible to bring spectators onto the field.
The previous attendance record for a women’s sporting event dates back to 2022. 91,648 fans flocked to the Camp Nou to watch Barcelona take on Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League final.
Husker Nation, you did it.
The WORLD RECORD for a women’s sporting event lives in Lincoln.
