Yellowjackets A darker and disturbing second season promises Sophie Nelisse

“Yellowjackets”: A darker and “disturbing” second season, promises Sophie Nélisse

You have found the first season of Yellow jackets intense, cloudy and dark? “They didn’t see anything,” warns Sophie Nélisse. The Quebecer joins Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Elijah Wood for a new installment of episodes of the American series.

The Yellowjackets phenomenon blew up North America when it aired in late 2021. And the already simmering excitement only grew in the 10 episodes broadcast here by Crave and Showtime with our American neighbors.

Sophie Nélisse admits that she “never” could have foreseen such a success. This has also resulted in seven nominations at recent Emmy Awards.

“During filming, we wondered how people would react to the show’s darker elements and supernatural things. But in the end we learned that this is what the public appreciates the most. So we’re really going in that direction for season two,” the actress told the Journal.

Difficult grief

It therefore means: we will not spare either the characters or the viewers during the 10 new episodes, which will be distilled at a rate of one per week starting March 24th. The fate of the Yellowjackets – the women’s soccer team who went missing in the woods after their plane crashed – will be neither rosy nor tender, promises Sophie Nélisse.

Her character Shauna therefore returns to us deeply troubled after the death of her best friend at the end of the previous season.

“His grief is very difficult,” admits the actress.

“Shauna feels a lot of guilt and regret; Her pregnancy constantly reminds her of the mistakes of her past that somehow led to Jackie’s death. On the other hand, she also feels liberated, finding her way and her self-confidence. It’s very interesting to play,” she continues, weighing each of her words to avoid spoilers.

Your pregnancy, we suspect, won’t be easy either. However, it will take patience to discover the details that are not expected until the second half of the season. The same goes for cannibalism, which has been implied since the beginning of the series.

“The season starts off slowly, but as we progress we get bogged down in something dark and unsettling. The second half is particularly difficult as the scenes get crazier and more intense with each episode. It works as they say,” says Sophie Nélisse with a laugh.

missed appointment

Telephiles will also be able to spot another very familiar face from Quebec in these new episodes: that of François Arnaud, who plays the wife of the Yellowjackets coach. However, her character does not cross paths with that of Sophie Nélisse on screen.

“I didn’t even get a chance to meet him on set,” Sophie Nélisse regrets.

They may have an opportunity to resume that missed date as producers have already given the green light for a third season.

  • The consequences of Yellow jackets will be available on the Crave app on Friday, then broadcast in English (Crave) on Sunday and in French (Super Ecran) on Monday.
