Under the title “Journalism under digital siege‘, the event will take place in Punta del Este and will be chaired by Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou and the Director General of the UNESCOAudrey Azoulay announced in a statement the multilateral organization.
At the opening of conferencewhich will include training workshops, will be the ceremony for the World Press Freedom Prize UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano 2022, which went to the Belarusian Union of Journalists.
Notable among the names who will be present are Shoshana Zuboff, author of The Age of Surveillance Capitalism; Will Carthart, director of WhatsApp, or Frances Haugen, activist for the transparency of social media platforms and former Meta employee.
Also taking part will be Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Russian journalist Dmitri Muratov and former Colombian President José Manuel Santos. Alongside them, renowned investigative journalists from Latin America confirmed their presence, including Mexican Carmen Aristegui and Colombians Jineth Bedoya and Claudia Duque.
