The city of Zhengzhou in central China this Tuesday (May 3, 2022) announced the adoption of new measures to try to contain the outbreak of Covid19. China is struggling to contain the spread of the pandemic. The country announced on Saturday (April 30) that the capital Beijing will again enact stricter measures to combat the Covid from this Thursday (May 5). Including mandatory tests with negative results for the corona virus so that people have access to public places.
For the time being, there is no talk of a quarantine like in Shanghai in the city. The city of 25 million is the epicenter of the new Covid 19 wave in China and has been in quarantine since March 14.
Throughout the pandemic, China has applied the “Covid Zero” policy, which uses rapid lockdowns and strict restrictions to contain outbreaks. The campaign is important for Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who is seeking a third term. However, the measures have frustrated residents, particularly those in Shanghai.
Authorities say there are 16,000 remote areas in the city. In one of them, 4 million people are not allowed to leave their homes. On Saturday there were no daily cases of illness outside the quarantine areas.
