At 90th place in the annual ranking of companies specializing in the world of work, Toronto remained more expensive than Vancouver for the second year in a row, which itself was ranked 116th in the ranking.
The cities of Montreal and Ottawa achieved an essentially identical result, ranking 135th and 137th, respectively, on the list. The fifth and final Canadian city in the ranking, Calgary, was ranked 145th.
Canadian cities are among the cheapest in North America, Mercer said in a statement, and they all fell slightly in last year’s survey rankings.
The cities of New York (6th), Los Angeles (11th) and San Francisco (14th) are the three most expensive North American cities, according to Mercer. All cities in the United States have moved up the rankings since last year.
According to a Mercer survey, Hong Kong is the most expensive city in the world. Second place is taken by Singapore, while three Swiss cities close the “top five”, namely Zurich, Geneva and Basel.
“Although inflationary pressures are affecting the country’s overall quality of life, Canada remains an attractive destination for remote workers,” Nicole Stewart, senior career advisor at Mercer Canada, said in a statement Wednesday.
“Because of the great flexibility that remote work brings, many employees are reassessing where they want to work and live. »
Mercer annually surveys the cost of living in major cities around the world to provide a benchmark for organizations whose operations span Pan-Canadian and international operations.
