New edition of The Age of Enlightenment by Alejo Carpentier
Havana, 17 September (RHC) The Saturday of the Book room in Havana presents today the latest Cuban edition of El Siglo de las Luces to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication of this classic by Alejo Carpentier.
According to the organizers of the literary event, the latest production was the result of painstaking work that “erased the errors of varying degrees that have accumulated in successive reprints” and allowed the addition of a series of reference notes for readers.
“It is an invitation to address everyone, both experts and beginners, to a classic text from the perspective of our convulsive contemporaries,” reads the appeal, which invites you to immerse yourself in the historical novel that was being written at the time of the French revolution plays.
Published in 1962, El Siglo de las Luces enjoys a wide international circulation, having, according to critics, “occurred essentially in Western Europe and Latin America, although it is also known in the Arab world, China, Japan and South Korea”.
“Due to the value of the work, the memory of this date must be accepted as an authentic event. The continuity of its resonance with successive generations of readers, its way of transcending time (…) gives it the category that corresponds to a classic of literature,” the text reads. (Source:PL)
