An action by the Animal Rebellion association, which campaigns against animal husbandry, took place in London on Saturday evening.

After the museums the table. Environmental activists broke into London meat restaurant Nusr-Et, run by internet star Salt Bae, on Saturday night to protest the eatery’s environmental impact. Sky News, which is sharing the information, reports no arrests.

According to British media, eight members of the Animal Rebellion association entered the restaurant around 6 p.m. and took reserved tables. The police were quickly called, but the activists had already left the scene when they arrived.

A video posted to the organization’s Twitter account shows one of the activists being carried out of the restaurant by the restaurant team before being dropped onto the sidewalk.

“We just sat down,” Ben Thomas, one of the activists, told the BBC. “The waiters were very polite, but the customers … two of them got pretty aggressive at one point,” the 20-year-old continued.

“The Symbol of a Broken System”

Animal Rebellion, a branch of Extinction Rebellion, advocates “a vegetarian food system and a en masse return to nature” and denounces the impact of animal husbandry on the climate. Ben Thomas explains to Sky News the reasons behind their action at Nusr-Et restaurant:

“Restaurants like this are a symbol of a broken system. While two million people in the UK are turning to the food bank, influencer chefs are selling gold-plated steaks for over £1,000. Steaks, like other red meats, are responsible for the biggest environmental impact.”

Nusret Gökçe, a Turkish restaurateur, rose to fame in 2017 with a video posted online in which he was seen salting meat in a grand theatrical gesture. The web immediately renamed it “Salt Bae”. He has also opened a dozen restaurants around the world, according to Sky News.

According to the Animal Extinction Twitter account, a similar action was taking place at a restaurant in Manchester at the same time. That always ended in arrests according to their statements. A few weeks ago, the organization made headlines by occupying a restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsay in the English capital.

These demonstrations come as environmentalists multiply shock actions around the world, particularly in museums. In Austria, Spain, Germany and even London, artworks have been sprayed with food in recent months.
