Kirby Smart updates injuries at running back Ladd McConkeys status

Kirby Smart updates injuries at running back, Ladd McConkey’s status heading to Auburn – DawgNation

ATHENS – The Georgia Bulldogs have completed their first two practices of the week and head coach Kirby Smart provided an update on a number of injuries.

At the running back position, Georgia had to do without Kendall Milton and Roderick Robinson against UAB. Milton is dealing with an MCL sprain while Robinson has a left ankle sprain.

Smart said Milton was able to do some cutting and playing on Tuesday while Robinson was in the training room and couldn’t do much.

Without Milton and Robinson, Georgia relied on Daijun Edwards, Dillon Bell and Cash Jones at the position. Edwards is Georgia’s leading rusher so far despite missing the first two games of the season.

“Roderick didn’t walk much. He was in the training room dealing with the high ankle, but Kendall was able to do some things and get some things done today,” Smart said. “I saw him out there again. I couldn’t see how much he did or how he looked while doing it. I’ll put this on tape. But he was able to take reps and cut reps and do some things.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Javon Bullard is dealing with an ankle injury. Smart updated his status as Bullard has missed the last two games due to his injury.

“Javon was able to achieve more today. He felt as good as he had,” Smart said. “He did walkthroughs, ran on the side and did some scouting stuff. The good on good stuff didn’t add up. These guys will probably be very close. Right there with Ladd and Kendall. The weekend could be here before we know it.”

In his absence, Georgia has rotated between Dan Jackson and David Daniel-Sisavanh at safety over the past two weeks.

“Javon is definitely one of the leaders on defense,” linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson said. “Definitely one of the people on the team who facilitates the lines of communication in this regard. We believe in our guys, the coaches putting them on the field to replace him or keep his place until he gets back. It’s a, I wouldn’t say a loss, but it’s a void that needs to be filled.”

As for Mykel Williams, Smart said. Georgia’s defense missed the win over UAB due to an illness. Williams did some training during Tuesday’s practice, although Smart hopes to hear something about Williams’ status on Wednesday.

On the offensive side of the ball, Georgia is hoping to see if Ladd McConkey is capable of playing. The wide receiver missed Georgia’s first four games with a back injury.

“He did some things today. He had to practice,” Smart said. “He didn’t do much on Monday. He ran routes and caught balls, and today he participated in plays and ran routes. I’ve seen him quite a bit, but haven’t seen enough to really judge. I’ll look at the records of the times I wasn’t with them and see what he looks like. We’re just trying to slowly move him forward again, whether it’s in a role this week or whether it’s, you know, the future. We’re not trying to rush him back.” Georgia tight end Lawson Luckie has recovered from an ankle injury. He pitched for Georgia’s win against UAB, but he didn’t play.”

The Bulldogs will have to make some roster concessions this week as Georgia can only travel with 70 players due to SEC regulations.

Georgia’s game Saturday against Auburn is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS will broadcast the game.
