Lara Trump left Fox News after her father-in-law Donald announced a 2024 White House run, thanks to a long-standing rule banning contributors from being associated with active campaigns.
After her father-in-law Donald Trump last month announced his bid for the 2024 White House, she now rules out continuing to receive a paycheck from the Republican-leaning news network. Lara has effectively stated that her decision to step down will be part of Trump’s recent White House bid.
“We value Lara’s valuable contributions throughout Fox News Media’s programming,” a Fox News Media representative said in a statement.
Lara became a paid contributor for the network last year.
Although their departure from the network is on good terms and based on the station’s protocol, former White House officials were usually welcomed to serve on cable networks.

“I feel like I’ve been an unofficial member of the team for so long. You know, it’s been kind of a joke for the last five years, I’ve been coming there so many times that security thought maybe we should just give you a key. To be part of the team I’m so, so excited,” she told Fox & Friends of excitedly joining in Spring 2021.
Lara, who is married to Eric Trump, has not appeared on the network since Donald Trump announced she was going to run on Nov. 15. However, she is expected to continue appearing on the channel for free.
If Lara were to appear on Fox News, she would vigorously defend her father-in-law while the Jan. 6 committee investigated his possible involvement in the 2021 Capitol Uprising, as well as his recent handling of classified documents after leaving office.

Presenter Stuart Varney told her: “I’m sure you’re very supportive of your father-in-law but to those of us looking at it from the outside it didn’t seem like he had the old magic, you know what I mean? ‘
Lara Trump countered, “Oh, well, I totally disagree,” she said.
On-air criticism of Trump has been kept to a minimum at Fox News, but the pages of its sister newspapers The New York Post and Wall Street Journal have openly criticized Trump, his chances of winning and the impact a second term could have.
It is well known that Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman of Fox News parent company Fox Corporation, does not support the former President’s decision to run for a third White House bid.

Other Trump White alumni can still be seen on Fox News, including former press director Kayleigh McEnany, who co-hosts the daytime show Outnumbered. Political advisor Kellyanne Conway still appears as a contributor.
Last year, Fox News ended a contributor deal with former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she announced that she was running for governor of Arkansas. Huckabee won her election in November.
Despite Trump’s setbacks, he still remains the undisputed leader of the Republican Party with a loyal base of MAGA conservatives who are also Republican primary voters, making him a serious contender from the start.
Trump’s plans to build a campaign, however, feel more like a skeleton crew of his loyal supporters who ran his successful 2016 than the massive operation that ran his failed 2020 reelection bid.
