A CEO of a Florida-based company affected by Hurricane Ian asked her employees to bring their pets and children to work and invited them to stay the night as she wanted to “have a good end to the quarter.” .
Employees at PostcardMania, a marketing firm headquartered in Clearwater, were encouraged to attend a Zoom call where CEO and founder Joy Gendusa made a few comments.
But those who expected to be sent home early in the face of the hurricane that devastated the state were disappointed.
Instead, employees were invited to come to the office, where others “started blowing up these air mattresses” when the hurricane hit.
Shortly after, a post from the company’s Instagram surfaced, in which the company announced it would be closing its offices on Wednesday and Thursday, but not before comments were flooded from social media criticizing the CEO’s call.

“It’s really not going to be that scary,” said Gendusa, who said she doesn’t want to stop production as she wants to “have a great end of the quarter.”
Gendusa has lived in the area for 33 years and “the media keeps making it worse than ever,” she reportedly said.
Every time they plan a disaster, she reportedly said, it’s “always a nothing burger.”
She appears to have claimed that the office building would protect her from the hurricane, calling it “probably the safest place in Florida.”
“My house was built in 1925 and is still standing,” the manager is said to have explained and assured her employees that the storm would probably pass.
Gendusa called Monday, but the transcript only recently came to light after employees at the marketing firm allegedly leaked the comments to journalist Jonah Furman, who posted them on Twitter.
On Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned of deaths after footage showed entire homes being destroyed by strong winds and residents fleeing to safety.
Biden declared a “major disaster” in Florida early Thursday morning. The restructuring bill is expected to cost billions.

“There is no business worth sacrificing for,” one of PostcardMania’s employees told the Washington Post. “I wouldn’t give my life [or my belongings] for every company.’
Nearly two million homes and businesses across the state were without power this morning.
Hurricane Ian churned ashore on Florida’s mainland after killing residents in Cuba, with slightly eased winds topping 145 miles per hour.
The storm’s peak wind speeds bring it just short of a Category 5 designation on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the maximum classification.
DeSantis said Ian created life-threatening storm surges — waves of wind-driven seawater pouring in along the coast — of up to 12 feet in some spots.
Meteorologists also warned of violent thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.
The firm later said on Instagram that it would convert its building into a hurricane shelter while its remote employees handed over communications.
PostcardMania did not respond to Web’s request for comment prior to publication.

‘Hello folks! Can you hear me? Say hello to Dani! are dangers. Here’s the deal, I guess a hurricane is coming. I’ve lived in this area for 33 years now and the media always makes it a lot worse than ever. Of course we have to reckon with a disaster and hope for a nothing burger. So if it’s super windy and you’re uncomfortable driving across the causeway we’ll figure out how to get you to work from home, but personally I’m not scared of that thing.
“If you’re new in town and you’re like, ‘Oh no! It’s a hurricane!” It won’t be that bad, I promise. But there are evacuation areas. Even Zach’s apartment is an evacuation apartment and he’s a giant hill from the water. Nothing’s gonna happen over there. I live a block away [sic] out of the water but high on a buff.
“My house was built in 1925 and is still standing. So here’s the thing, when you’re about to leave your home and you’re being told to leave your home and you feel like you should and don’t have a place to go, PCM is probably the safest place to go in Florida.
“Anyway, bring your pets, bring your kids, bring everyone to PCM, and Jason can start blowing up those air mattresses if we have to – been there, did that – it’s going in.” be okay. Of course making you feel safe and comfortable is of paramount importance but honestly I want to keep delivering and have a good end to the quarter and if it doesn’t come to nothing I don’t want it to be, ‘Great everyone stopped producing because of the media and maybe that it was going to be awful”.
“So let’s see. I think it might get bad on Wednesday afternoon. Until then, it won’t be close. Let’s just keep an eye on it and we’ll keep you posted. We look at the models every 5 minutes to see what’s going on but I think it’s going to be a nothing burger as always. I keep my fingers crossed because I want that.
“Anyway, if you’re scared of the hurricane, raise your hand. It really won’t be that scary, but if you’re scared, I understand. I also understand why you don’t raise your hand, because I just said it won’t be. Honestly if you don’t want to drive over the causeway because of the wind I understand but I don’t think it will be a big deal
“So have a wonderful rest of your day, have a wonderful rest of your staff meeting. I’ll exit this zoom and then click the link so I can watch the staff briefing. Bye people! Dedicate me! Oh you’re kind enough to give up, those of you who did! Loving You! Goodbye!’
