A woman who went to the emergency room for bloating and constipation was stunned to discover she was actually six months pregnant.
Abby Pollock, 28, a fitness influencer from Canada, has irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – a chronic condition that affects the stomach and intestines – and as a result brushed many of the signs of pregnancy as symptoms of the condition.
She’s always had irregular periods, so she wasn’t concerned if she missed one — and she didn’t develop a bump in the first part of the pregnancy when she later found out the baby was behind her pelvic bone.
In June, when she began suffering from severe abdominal pain, bloating and constipation, it never occurred to her that she was expecting her first child.

The shock of her life: When she suffered from severe abdominal pain, bloating and constipation in June, she did not realize that she was expecting her first child
She recently went viral after sharing her story on TikTok, where her video received more than 21 million views – and many people online feared something similar could happen to them.
“When I walked into the ER and joked I was so bloated I looked six months pregnant,” she wrote on TikTok, alongside a clip showing her heading to the hospital.
It was then cut to a video of her lying in a hospital bed and giving the camera a peace sign. She added, “Actually six months pregnant.”
Many people flooded the comments section with their thoughts, with one person writing: “No. Because I’m really afraid of it. ‘Cause I’ve been hella bloated for about 2 months.’
“Imagine if you only had three months to face the reality that you’re going to be a mom and your life has changed forever,” said another. Another user added: “New fear unlocked.”
Taking to YouTube, Abby continued to talk about her situation, explaining that she had a traumatic experience last December that was “mentally tough on her.”
“I lost my appetite, I wasn’t sleeping regularly, I was consuming so much caffeine, I wasn’t doing healthy things,” she explained.

New fear unleashed: The video terrified many people online, who flooded the comments section with their thoughts
“I missed my period in January, took a pregnancy test and nothing. I originally took birth control pills as a teenager because I had horrible, irregular, painful periods. So was it surprising? no
“I said to myself, ‘You’re not doing your best mentally right now, you’re going through it mentally. So even though it sucks, it makes sense. You’ve lost weight, you haven’t actually eaten.’
Then, in June, she suffered from severe constipation and felt “stabbing” pains in her stomach.
“When I started getting pretty bad bloating, I thought I was stressed,” she continued.
“That bloating then turned into constipation, which worried me. As someone who has worked very hard to become regular with my bathroom routine, it hasn’t been great.
“After a few days of not being able to go to the bathroom, it turned into sharp stomach pains when I tried to walk and when I touched my stomach it was rock hard.”
She and her boyfriend Jeff decided to go to the emergency room, where her doctor told her she may have “a bowel obstruction or an impaction.”
He then ordered some tests – including an ultrasound – and was surprised at what he found.

Baby on the way: He then ordered some tests – including an ultrasound – and was surprised at what he found. She recalled him telling her, “That’s not a bloat, that’s a baby.”
“The doctor says very calmly, ‘That’s not a bloat, that’s a baby. From the looks of it, this isn’t a small baby. At first glance, it could be a six-month-old baby,” she recalled. “The doctor was just as shocked as I was.
“The baby had grown from behind my pelvic bone, which explains why I haven’t shown myself for so long and then boom, I had a bump.
“When the baby got too big to fit behind the pelvic bone and tried to move out from behind the pelvic bone, there was probably a lot of stress on my digestive system, which could have caused a blockage.”
According to Abby, she had none of the stereotypical symptoms of pregnancy and brushed aside anything she felt related to her irritable bowel syndrome or stress.
Though she was “shocked,” Abby recalled feeling the awe of seeing her baby for the first time.
Unfortunately, the doctor immediately had “concerns” about how the “placenta” formed, which she described as “devastating.”
“There was a full baby in there. It was crazy to see,” she continued. “But there have been concerns about how the placenta forms. Although this was a very unplanned pregnancy, it was devastating.
“One of my biggest goals was and is to become a mother, to experience that part of my femininity, to feel the power in my body, to feel the full range of my body, to feel the good, the bad, the ugly of carrying a baby and give birth.’

Staying positive: Abby added that the whole thing was “crazy” but that she was ultimately “so happy and excited” to be a mom
She added that her digestive issues are “mostly resolved” and that she is ready for whatever the future holds. She gushed: “I’m so happy at the end of the day, it’s so exciting for me”
While there were initial concerns about the pregnancy, Abby has since undergone further tests – and it seems everything is perfectly normal now.
“Based on all the follow-up appointments we’ve had over the past few weeks, the baby is looking good,” she revealed.
“I loved it from the moment I saw it, even though I didn’t think I was ready for it and didn’t plan it,” she added of her baby
“It seems to be developing in a way that’s not that worrisome, it might just have been an odd positioning [that night in the ER].
“The organs look good, the heartbeat looks good. The baby is active, kicking and rolling.’
Abby added that the whole thing was “crazy” but that she was ultimately “so happy and excited” to be a mom.
“I find the origin story quite funny now that we know the baby is healthy,” she added.
“Seeing that baby on the ultrasound, seeing him rolling around… This six-month-old little thing already has a personality. It’s wild and crazy.
