“He was my brother. And my brother. He was an artist. He’s an artist. He was a father, a husband, a son, an uncle, a friend. Everything that was will always be remembered, in his free, revolutionary, visionary, immortal works.” With these loving words and some photos published on social networks that portray her in the family, Monica Leofreddi says goodbye to her brother Emilio, who died in Rome on Saturday. “How much I love you, brother,” the presenter continues, explaining that the funeral will take place “Monday at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere.”
Emilio Leofreddi, 65, was an internationally known artist. In the last few days, Monica Leofreddi has explained to her followers that she is going through a difficult time and that she has moved away from social networks for this reason.
Emilio Leofreddi, 65 years old, painter and video author, has been combining art and social commitment since the 1990s and has created video installations and performances: the first was “Balene” against whale hunting in 1992, sponsored by Greenpeace. In 1993 “Contact” followed against the death penalty, sponsored by Amnesty International and Hands Off Cain. In 1999 he founded the collective art studio Ice Badile Studio in Rome together with Ivan Barlafante, Claudio di Carlo and Andrea Orsini. In the same year he exhibited his solo exhibition “Humanbeing” at the Moca (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Washington DC. Over the years he has created work that has been exhibited in the UK, US, Germany, India and China. Leofreddi died from a complication that arose after breaking his pelvis a few months ago.
