CH are raising their hopes with the signing of three goalkeepers, including Remparts’ Quentin Miller

NASHVILLE | Jacob Fowler, Quentin Miller and Yevgeny Volokhin. An American goalie, a Quebec goalie and a Russian goalie. On this second day of the repechage, the Canadian has replenished his hopes for that position.

There was practically a symbolism. The day before, Carey Price presented the fifth overall pick in the draft, defenseman David Reinbacher. Once the strong image of the team, Price is now a thing of the past. And the CH looked to the future by responding to a need within the organization.

For the first time since 1977, the Habs bet on three keepers in the same auction. More than 40 years ago, the Canadian challenged seven goalkeepers, including Richard Sévigny.

Miller, who was the second-biggest goaltender behind William Rousseau for the Quebec Remparts, had not made the trip to Nashville. However, during a phone conversation with Le Journal, the 18-year-old radiated happiness.

“The Canadian is the team I looked up to when I was younger,” he said. Carey Price made me a goalie. Being part of this organization is incredible.”

DIDIER DEBUSSCISSORS/JOURNAL DE QUEBEC

Kent Hughes hadn’t lied. During selection camp in Buffalo, the Canadian’s general manager had mentioned that he was considering using an early selection to sign a goalkeeper. He made it with his third-round pick (Fowler), who was the team’s first on day two.

In the fourth round (128th) with Miller and in the fifth round (144th) with Volokhin, the Canadian continued his search for goalkeepers.

The Larionov link

The Canadian finished shopping in the country’s capital with nine choices. Among them is an elected official of the QMJHL, but also two interested parties from Russia.

It should also be noted that four of the team’s nine picks were not in their first year of draft eligibility.

With one of the three decisions in the fourth round, CH defender Bogdan Konyushkov secured himself. Konyushkov, 20, played for Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo in the KHL. In 64 games he had 25 points (2 goals, 23 assists).

“I often spoke to Igor Larionov, his coach in the KHL,” said Lapointe. We loved him on video but I also trust my former Wings teammate. He spoke to me about him as a very good young defender.

Another Xhekaj

Arber Xhekaj could one day share the Habs dressing room with his younger brother. Florian Xhekaj, a 19-year-old winger, met his fate in the fourth round (101st).

The Hamilton Bulldogs forward of the Ontario Junior League was ranked 131st in NHL Central Scouting in North America.

Like many team picks, he wasn’t in the stands in Nashville.

Dubmatics for Canada Day in Ottawa: True rap lovers haven’t forgotten them

Rap group Dubmatique will take the stage for Canada Day in Ottawa for the first time in almost six years. Though their latest project dates back to 2009, the Quebec rap pioneers know fans will stick by their date.

“Dubmatique is like a tune that you have in your head and you have to hear it,” jokes OTMC, one of the group’s founding members.

Jokes aside, the rapper notes that the oldest MC worshipers behind La Force de comprehension still aren’t backing down.

“We still have the unwavering support of our fans,” he said. “Our lyrics are still as relevant as they were in the 1990s.”

We have to believe OTMC as the song Soul Pleureur, released in 1997, surpassed one million plays on Spotify. Dubmatique, which peaked in the late 1990s, has over 15,000 monthly listeners on this app; The streaming platform only went live in 2006.

“We’ll see our old fans with their kids on their shoulders,” says the rapper, who is looking forward to his return to the stage.

Pioneers for Loud and Souldia

Dubmatique, even at its peak, was far from the time when Quebec rap could afford to dream of the Bell Centre. Disoul, also the founder of the group, is proud to have been part of the boom in this style of music.

“It makes us proud to say that we’ve managed to put a small stone on top of the great building that rap has become,” he says. “It’s heartwarming when people like Souldia and Loud tell us they watched us when they started.”

While rappers have been able to achieve greater success thanks to Dubmatique, so have record companies such as Joy Ride Records and Disques 7ième Ciel.

Carlos Munoz [fondateur de Joy Ride] and Steve Jolin [fondateur de 7ième Ciel] thanked us by telling us that if their labels are so solid, they owe it to pioneers like us.

Nothing new on the horizon

Disoul and OTMC may not be opposed to the idea of proposing new material to their audience, but according to their statements; One after the other.

“We’re starting to orient ourselves and do reunion-style shows, a matter of then better assessing our position.”

Dubmatique will perform two of his classics on Canada Day in Ottawa and return to Quebec for the Expo de Trois-Rivières on July 7, where the group will perform a full show.

Dubmatique in three highlights

1997 was a successful year for the group, whose album “La Force de comprehension” went platinum for selling more than 150,000 copies. That same year, Dubmatique appeared as the opening act for the Backstreet Boys at the famous boy band’s four Quebec dates.

In 1998, Dubmatique won the Félix for Group of the Year at the ADISQ Gala and was also selected for the Juno Gala for best selling French language album.

In the late 1990s, the band merged with Tox Records, the same label that once represented Mitsou and the BBs, among others.

Lima Alliance vs. Municipal: The likely 11-time defending champion of “Chicho” Salas will win despite the losses

Lima Alliance completed a discreet participation in the 2023 Copa Libertadores, leaving them full focus on the local championship. The blue and white team, winners of the Apertura tournament, must do the same in the Clausura to automatically become three-time champions of Liga 1, a goal they already started to achieve the day before by beating Atlético Grau. On this second day, the confidants aim for another win, this time against Deportivo Municipal.

The main problem for “Chicho” Salas is not only playing as a guest, but also the losses he has to endure in order to put together his starting XI. In addition to the injured Andrés Andrade and Gino Peruzzi Carlos Zambrano j Gabriel Costa They won’t be able to play either because they weren’t called up.

Probable alignment of Alianza Lima

Due to the absences mentioned above, the only change from the last starting squad would be Aldair Rodríguez joining Zanelatto from the start: Ángelo Campos, Yordi Vílchez, Pablo Míguez, Santiago García, Richard Lagos, Josepmir Ballón, Jairo Concha, Jesús Castillo, Franco Zanelatto , Bryan Reyna and Hernán Barcos.

His starting XI would be a copy of those Unión Comercio defeated: Steven Rivadeneyra, Jorge Toledo, Antonio Yáñez, Farihd Ortega, Leonardo Rugel, Matías Pérez García, Eslyn Correa, Christian Flores, Santiago Gálvez, Jhosep Núñez and Pablo Erustes.

ALISON BOSHOFF Harry returns to campaigning So is he fed

ALISON BOSHOFF: Harry returns to campaigning… So is he fed up with Meghan’s showbiz world?

As Meghan put it in typically syrupy fashion while promoting her Archetypes podcast last year, she and husband Prince Harry are “like salt and pepper — we always move together.”

And yet, as her media empire implodes following the termination of her Spotify contract, it seems like those special spices somehow ended up on completely opposite shelves in the pantry today.

Fresh off her management deal with ultimate Hollywood agent Ari Emanuel at WME, Meghan is still exploring creative and commercial opportunities. It was a solo deal – not her and Harry – and a colossal coup.

Meanwhile, Harry is said to be returning to charity and campaign work and planning a return to Africa to film a documentary in the footsteps of his mother – an endeavor that will see him traveling to the continent alone. Their ambition to become a global humanitarian power couple appears to be on hold, at least for now.

What’s expected next for Meghan is a slew of commercial endorsements in areas important to her, like food, wellness, fashion and therapy.

Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, are a couple who rarely seem to think about the consequences of their actions for others. They are convinced that their downfall had nothing to do with them

I heard there will be a book, most likely with a feminist angle.

Most urgently, however, the WME team will look to bolster – or should revitalize – Meghan’s rather damaged credibility in the entertainment industry following the embarrassing end of the Sussexes’ £18million deal ‘by mutual consent’ earlier this month.

So far, the negativity has focused on Meghan, with talent agent Jeremy Zimmer noting, “It turns out Meghan Markle wasn’t a huge audio talent, or necessarily any talent.” You know, just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you are are great at something.’

Those familiar with the situation say the real disappointment for Spotify was the lack of content, not the podcast ratings.

Incredibly, however, Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, are convinced their downfall has nothing to do with them, although the couple rarely seem to think about the consequences their actions will have on others.

I’ve been told that both feel they’ve had “repeated bad luck” in other world events. Attempts to establish themselves as global philanthropists, free to monetize once they’ve relieved themselves of royal duties, have been severely impacted by the pandemic that followed just months after their January 2020 Megxit announcement.

Her deal with Netflix coincided with a major and painful “correction” in the streaming economy — as did her deal with Spotify. Both companies don’t have that much cash left to splash around with.

Other incredibly unimaginable incidents of so-called bad timing include the release of Meghan’s podcast – promotion of which was marred by the death of Her Majesty the Queen – and her explosive and grossly insensitive Oprah interview, which I’m told the couple felt was wrong overshadowed by the deteriorating health of Prince Philip, who died soon after.

Compassion will be in short supply. But a source in LA tells me, “They say they think they’re really unlucky.”

By the way, Meghan is a big believer in fate. I was told that at the suggestion of one of her “Suits” co-stars, she consulted a celebrity psychic, Mama Fay, and was told she would meet a man who was “like royalty” — and that she was going global would be famous, to boot.

But luck aside, the big question is how long will it be before Harry turns his back on the show business life he’s clearly not suited for and seems utterly uncomfortable with? He and Meghan were expected to produce multiple podcasts as part of the Spotify deal. Meghan reached out to friends, including tennis player Serena Williams, to appear at Archetypes (and wrote a letter to singer Taylor Swift, who declined). But Harry was completely ineffective in that area.

In fact, according to news site Bloomberg, ideas like interviewing Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Mark Zuckerberg about formative traumatic experiences came to mind.

As if that wasn’t ridiculous enough, there was also the idea of doing a podcast about fatherhood – and possibly interviewing the Pope for it. It almost sounds like a mean joke, with Harry as the punch line.

In truth, Harry never really wanted to be a podcaster or TV executive. He didn’t want to be the “pepper” for Meghan’s “salt”.

As he said at a conference in San Francisco earlier this year, “For me personally, there’s a lot to be gained from helping other people.”

“Being in the service of others is what drives me and gets me out of bed every day.”

During that bombshell interview in 2021 he had even told Oprah: how he only signed the £79m Netflix and £18m Spotify deals because his family had ‘cut him off’ and he needed it to pay for security (not to mention the £11million Montecito mansion they bought four weeks after the Netflix deal was announced).

Last year, while the couple were filming their riotous Harry & Meghan documentary, Meghan mused about the experience in an interview: “It’s interesting.” “My husband has never worked in this industry.”

After the release of that documentary and the advertising campaign for his best-selling memoir, Spare, which he did alone, questions were asked about how long Harry would stay in the spotlight.

On the one hand, he is heavily involved in the fight to right supposed wrongs of the past. In the UK he is involved in several lawsuits against newspaper groups over allegations of phone hacking and illegal information gathering, all of which have been dismissed.

In America, today’s homeland, you rarely see him.

A documentary about his military charity, Heart Of Invictus, has been commissioned by Netflix and is nearing completion.

Meanwhile, Meghan and her team at Archewell will continue trying to get the green light for movies and TV shows from Netflix until the deal expires in 2025.

New agent Emanuel will connect her with the key creative talents she needs to make her new career as a TV producer a success. Actress and model-producer Tracy Ryerson has now joined as script content director. She is assisted by Nishika Kumble, the senior vice president of scripted television. The two women have a lot to do.

Sources at Netflix say Archewell has “general” suggestions for script content.

In addition to the previously reported spin-off Great Expectations, TV sitcoms and movie romcoms are also in the pipeline. They face various hurdles – not least the current writers’ strike, which means that nobody is working on the scripts. When the strike is over, there will be a backlog of work and the best writers will be stuck at work for months, if not years.

Perhaps with the help of experienced power broker Emanuel, Meghan can break through and put an end to her losing streak.

She takes inspiration from her old boss, Bonnie Hammer, an NBC executive who got her big break with Suits.

But as she makes her way to bigger and more lucrative media ventures, her husband’s concerns center on the environment and mental health.

He was hired in March 2021 as chief impact officer at a company called BetterUp, which he says offers the fastest access to mental health coaching and is an app he often uses on his phone.

He said at a conference this year, “I never thought I’d be sitting on this stage and saying, ‘Therapy is good and coaching will change your life,’ or ‘Both will change your life.'” And the more people we can achieve with it, the better. “What we’re trying to do now – the goal – is to democratize coaching to make sure we can bring it to the masses.”

His other passion is the sustainable travel coalition Travalyst. Founded in 2019, the company has grown into a truly impressive company that now includes some of the biggest brands in travel, including Tripadvisor, Google, Booking.com, Visa and the Expedia group.

All have joined an environmental sustainability rating system. CEO Sally Davey says of Harry, “He understands the complexities of sustainability and knows there’s a broad spectrum of issues that are influenced by a number of factors.” She says he has a five-inch thick report on the subject in Commissioned and read “on every page” and made notes.

One can’t blame Harry – who is very sensitive to reports that suggest he’s not smart – for wanting to spend his time focusing on good works that have a proven track record of impact and meaning, rather than ideas for Propose comedy shows or animations.

Plus, the couple has young children every day – Archie, four; Lilibet, two – drawing their focus. A report in the Telegraph suggested some perfectly normal tensions in their five-year marriage.

A friend told the newspaper that the couple were “like any parent of young kids – exhausted,” adding, “They’re really happy together, living this idyllic life in Montecito, which is essentially a massive gated community of multi-millionaires. “But at the end of the day, they’ve been through a lot and I think they both felt pretty drained from it all. “They are like any married couple, even after five years.”

It has been suggested that Harry occasionally stayed alone at a leading hotel chain in Montecito and that he also stayed at the San Vicente Bungalows when he visited LA as an “escape spot”. A spokesman for the couple simply said, “That’s not true.”

Socially, Harry is involved with a group of friends who play polo – the Los Padres team in Santa Barbara. Old friends in London complain that he’s gone from their lives. Guy Pelly, a key member of his gang, danced with Prince William in London this week. Given the complete rupture in relations between the brothers, it was a fascinating sight to say the least.

Meghan has managed to hold on to her “pre-Harry” friends, like yoga teacher Heather Dorak and Soho House CEO Markus Anderson, who both came to visit her for Archie’s birthday in May and went hiking with her the following day.

Harry, who had just returned from the coronation of King Charles, was not with them.

They may still be very much married, but Harry seems happiest on the edge of the limelight – a few steps behind his wife.

Kidnapped Mexican security personnel released after three-day search – AOL

MEXICO CITY (Portal) – Sixteen employees of Mexico’s State Security Ministry were released on Friday after they were kidnapped in the southern state of Chiapas earlier this week, authorities said after a three-day search.

“Everyone is fine,” said a spokesman for the ministry.

The employees, all men, were abducted by an armed group on a highway near the state capital Tuxtla Gutierrez on Tuesday after leaving their jobs, authorities said.

More than 1,000 federal and state officials participated in the search, and two people were arrested earlier this week.

Local news outlets showed images of families gathered outside the ministry’s offices and bursting into tears as they met with the abductees. A woman was shown sobbing and screaming, “Thank you, Lord!”

On Tuesday, a spokesman for the Chiapas Ministry of Security told Portal that the employees were not police officers but administrative employees, adding: “Nothing like this has ever happened.”

The abducted staff members were caught on video shortly after their disappearance, eyes on the floor, as they stood side by side while one of them delivered the message that they would be released in exchange for resignations from senior posts at the ministry.

The ministry confirmed that the people in the video were the prisoners.

The terms of their release remain unclear.

Rep Jamie Raskin urges NFL to disclose outcome of Mary

Rep. Jamie Raskin urges NFL to disclose outcome of Mary Jo White v. Commanders investigation – NBC Sports

The NFL has repeatedly promised to disclose the outcome of attorney Mary Jo White’s investigation into the Washington Commanders. On Friday, a congressman urged the NFL to live up to its promise.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) sent a two-page letter on the subject to Commissioner Roger Goodell via the Washington Post.

Raskin said he was “encouraged” by the “stated commitment to full transparency” and expected the league to deliver on its promise.

“I’m writing with the National Football League in mind. . . “Investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and financial misconduct against Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder,” Raskin wrote, according to the Post. “More than a year has passed since you agreed to ‘share the results of this investigation’, but to date no part of the information has been released to the public. With the impending sale of the Commanders franchise, I urge you to honor your obligation to release the report in full and “take additional disciplinary action as necessary.”

Goodell has repeatedly stated that the report will be made public – unlike attorney Beth Wilkinson’s report, which was released to the public on July 1, 2021 with a cursory summary.

“As you have already noted, one of the most recognizable platforms in America keeps the NFL at a higher level, and rightly so,” Raskin wrote to Goodell. “You now have the opportunity to show the American people – and especially the victims of the toxic workplace of commanders – that you will hold yourself to that higher standard by ensuring transparency and accountability by releasing Ms. White’s full report and…” Taking additional action consistent with the findings of the report.”

There’s no reason to believe the NFL won’t release the report. There is reason enough to wonder whether White’s report will come to very different conclusions if Snyder sells the team than it would have if Snyder had been adamant and refused to sell the team.

Yes, some would say it’s a conspiracy theory. But White began her investigation in February 2022. Why hasn’t she completed it yet?

It’s reasonable to assume that she waited because the League (her client) wanted her to wait, with the subtle (or otherwise) insight that when Snyder finally walks away, she won’t come to the conclusions he made would have run.

Snyder has reached an agreement to sell the team to a group led by Josh Harris. The NFL plans to meet on July 20 to consider approving the deal.

Once the sale is approved, we expect the league to release a sanitized and whitewashed report from White that finds no conclusive evidence to support the allegations against the team and Snyder.
