Bruins trade Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno for Blackhawks – The Athletic

By Mark Lazerus, Pierre LeBrun, Scott Powers and Fluto Shinzawa

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired forward Taylor Hall and the rights to unrestricted free-agent forward Nick Foligno in a trade with the Boston Bruins, the teams announced Monday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The Bruins received the rights to limited free agents Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula in exchange.
  • The move will see Hall’s $6 million maximum cap for the 2023-24 season forfeited.
  • Hall scored 16 goals and 36 points in 61 games for the Bruins last season. The 31-year-old, who was drafted No. 1 by Edmonton in 2010, was traded from Buffalo to Boston in April 2021.
  • Foligno, who scored 26 points in 60 games last season, is expected to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

Where does Hall fit into the Blackhawks lineup?

Hall is the obvious choice to play alongside Connor Bedard, allowing the Blackhawks to separate Bedard and their other top youngster, Lukas Reichel (both Hall and Reichel are primarily left wingers). At 31, Hall may not be the same player he was when he won the 2018 Hart Trophy with the Devils, but he’s still a strong two-way player that gives Bedard a real weapon to work with. Hall scored five goals in seven playoff games this spring and has 36 goals in the last two seasons.

Foligno will be an unrestricted free agent on Saturday, but the Blackhawks can negotiate with him in the meantime about adding a little muscle and veteran know-how to the lineup. – Lacerus

Why the Bruins Hall traded

The Bruins liked Hall. He’s served them well, especially as their No. 3 left wing.

But at times he was strictly a five-on-five player. He didn’t make it into powerplay unit #2. He didn’t kill any penalties. In that sense, Hall was a luxury — and a 31-year-old on $6 million a year.

While their even-strength offense will suffer without Hall, it’s the price the Bruins feel is worth paying for the pursuit of cap flexibility. It is currently expected to be worth $11.5 million with 14 players under contract for 2023-24 expected to be added to the roster. Jeremy Swayman, Trent Frederic and Jakub Lauko are their upcoming restricted free agents – Shinzawa

Impact on the Blackhawks’ cap rank

The Blackhawks went into the starting lineup this week knowing they had to take some big steps toward the ceiling. This would be done either by trade or by free hand. It looks like they found the way through the trade. With players already signed for next season, Philipp Kurashev expected to be re-signed, and Bedard expected to be drafted and included in the NHL roster, the Blackhawks are estimated to need around $10 million to reach the cap.

Hall will take on much of it with a cap of $6 million. Foligno could take care of the rest. He’s close to becoming an unrestricted free agent, but you’d expect the Blackhawks to get him a contract before he hits the market. He signed a two-year deal that capped at $3.8 million. — Powers

How does the Mitchell and Regula trade affect Chicago?

Mitchell and Regula might not have long-term futures with the Blackhawks, but organizationally they filled the need for them as right-handed defensemen. With them gone, the Blackhawks’ only right-handed defenders are Seth Jones, Connor Murphy, Nikita Zaitsev and Louis Crevier.

The Blackhawks don’t have many in the pipeline either. Sam Rinzel is the lead man, but he’s at least a few years away from even turning pro. This could be an area the Blackhawks want to address in this draft and in free agency. — Powers

What’s next for the Bruins?

They can use the savings towards their future RFAs. They can also engage more freely in talks about the re-signing of Tyler Bertuzzi and Garnet Hathaway, both of which will be unreserved. Bertuzzi could take over some of Hall’s duties on the left wing. The ex-Red Wing is three years younger. Hathaway could be her right wing in the fourth row.

Both Mitchell, 24, and Regula, 22, are right-backs. They could be fighting for the opening created when Connor Clifton switches to a free hand. Clifton wants to stay in Boston. But Clifton also wants to establish its market value. Mitchell and Regula are restricted. – Shinzawa

Busy weekend for the Gendarmerie: "Record broken with 118 violations on our roads" Guadeloupe on the 1st Overseas on the 1st

With the long school holidays ahead, one can be concerned about the frequency of off-road behavior on the streets of Guadeloupe. The number of crimes detected by the police remains high from week to week. The penalties are pouring down. But the dead are also piling up.

New record in Guadeloupe: last weekend (Saturday, June 24th and Sunday, June 25th, 2023) 118 violations were detected during the various roadside checks carried out by the gendarmerie forces.

Several checkpoints took place, including one on Saturday night at Le Moule, on the fringes of the West Indies Green Festival.
The results of these measures show that too many users are still lax about the road traffic regulations.

Gendarmerie motorcyclists alone reported 32 cases of alcoholism while driving, 11 cases of driving under narcotics, 1 case of speeding, 8 driving without a license, 18 telephone conversations while driving, 1 refusal to comply and 2 category D weapon arrests (1st shotgun and 1 shotgun). 1 taser lamp).

The activities of other gendarmerie units are not included in these figures.

Last weekend, 50 violations were found.
On June 10 and 11, the gendarmerie imposed a fine on 75 motorists and cyclists.
On June 3rd and 4th, 72 road users were caught at fault.
The weeks follow each other and therefore look the same.

With just days to go before the big school holidays, we bet there is a growing awareness of the dangers of out-of-frame driving.
The aim is to work together to ensure that other dramas do not overshadow this period, when many of us are traversing the archipelago in search of its treasures.

We also deplore the death of a motorist on Saturday at 4:08 p.m. at the roundabout on the Avenue du Général de Gaulle in Gourbeyre. The victim of this two-wheeler accident (apparently alone) is a 60-year-old man, a reserve police officer.
When help arrived on the scene, the unfortunate man was already in cardiac arrest; Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.

This fact, the circumstances of which have yet to be clarified, increases the number of deaths on the roads of the Guadeloupe archipelago to 25 since January 1, 2023.

Wagner in Belarus: Prigozhin staging and attack on Ukraine, the hypothesis

Yevgeny Prigozhin’s “Wagner” is “premièred” in Belarus. The mercenary company is beginning operations in the country of President Alexander Lukashenko, Vladimir Putin’s key ally, following Saturday’s “near-coup” in Russia. A military camp with a capacity to house 8,000 Wagner mercenaries is currently being built, the independent Belarusian newspaper Werstka reported. The work started in Osipovichi, 200 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, they say. The start of work coincides with rumors of Prigozhin’s presence in Minsk and raises questions related to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Wagner, which has been engaged in the Battle of Bakhmut for months, now has a home base in northern Ukraine. There are enough questions about the events of Saturday June 24th.

“Putin and the Russian establishment are certainly weakened. It could be the beginning of his end. Some analysts saw Prigozhin’s march as a positive event for the West, but the seizure of power by some hawks should worry us more,” General Luigi Chiapperini said. The Afghan-born former multinational contingent commander and member of the Army Studies Center told Adnkronos about the prospects following the alleged coup attempt in Russia.

“What looked like an attempted coup can be read from different angles,” explains General Chiapperini. “It is likely that Putin’s magic circle is starting to show some cracks. Certainly the fact that it was not possible to avoid and foresee Prigozhin’s moves.” denotes the fragility of the Russian home front, with initial verbal diatribes that then led to military action on Russian territory. It is known that there were disagreements between the Wagner supporters and the Russian military summit, but a clash was unlikely. So what happened? is extremely worrying. The stop of the so-called March for Justice towards Moscow was interrupted, but there could be a different interpretation.”

Indeed, according to General Chiapperini, “the whole affair is strange, to say the least, when you see how Prigozhin’s columns were advancing towards Moscow and were only fought by a few aircraft, while the security forces remained rather passive. Then the doubt arises whether that was the case of the indescribable Prigozhin.” could be a “Maskirovka”, i.e. a staging to attack Ukraine again from the north. Some of the mercenaries who were “pardoned” and “exiled” to Belarus with all their weapons therefore raise doubts.”

“It would be a master plan of deception. I consider it an unlikely but not impossible evolution of the situation given the many farces we are witnessing,” General Chiapperini continues. “Aggravating the situation is the lack of information about the fate of the.” Chief of Defense Staff Gerasimov was hated by Prigozhin. Now it could be the turn of Surovikin, a hawk closest to Prigozhin. The next few days will show us what really happened.”

Now, “Prigozhin is left with the remnants of his militias, or a mad splinter whose movements should alarm everyone, or,” or if it was truly staged, “again, a useful if dangerous tool in Putin’s hands for future operational planning.” Location or geostrategic –” He concludes: “Moscow has again received indications of proximity from Beijing, but in these fluid situations the balance is unstable and can easily be broken.”

In the meantime, after a few days of waiting, Wagner’s activities have also been resumed in Russia. The Wagner PMC center in Novosibirsk, which had been closed since Saturday, has reopened and resumed its recruitment activities, an employee said, quoted by the Russian news agency Tass. The advertising posters were again placed at the entrance to the offices. The headquarters of the mercenary company in St. Petersburg “function normally”, wrote Wagner himself in a message published by Telegram. “Despite the events that have occurred, the center continues to operate in the normal mode in accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation,” the Wagner Group office said in a statement. Wagner “dedicated himself to the future of Russia,” the statement said, thanking the group’s supporters.

Bwa Kale movement claims 204 lives in Haiti

According to the report of the Center for Analysis and Research on Human Rights, the number of murders of suspected members of armed groups continues to rise, and 155 people were executed in the western department alone, where this capital is located.

In addition, another 24 in the Artibonite department, 12 in Grand Anse, five in the center, two in the north-east, one in the south and as many in the north and south-east were annihilated, in a movement that has already reached eight of the country’s 10 provinces .

Bwa Kale was born at a critical moment when armed gangs were rampantly attacking schools, public and private facilities and neighborhoods, and murders and kidnappings had skyrocketed because the police were unable to deal with them.

In addition to the movement, residents in the neighborhoods organized and formed so-called self-defense brigades to protect the areas from incursions by armed groups. For anthropologist and director of the National Center for Scientific Research, Laënnec Hurbon, the initiative represents a population boost who wants to help the police find and counter the bandits.

“The state is no longer the institution that takes care of security and mutual respect. people are alone She does not have the means to understand the relationships between people. Haiti appears to be moving away from the rule of law,” the scholar told Liberation newspaper.

For his part, Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who spoke only once on the subject, called for calm and recalled that Haiti had chosen democracy as its model of government.

“The uncertainty we live in is abhorrent. “We understand the city needs to resume activity, but we must not allow bad plans to tempt us to play dirty games,” Henry said during a speech in early May.

However, the movement continued and the number of kidnappings declined while police began to retake areas that were under gang control.

While Bwa Kale is a success for some, others warn it could be the start of a new wave of violence in the Caribbean country.

After the Sonneberg district election: Where more AfD election successes are possible Tagesspiegel

After the AfD’s electoral success in the Sonneberg district elections, a possible party victory is also imminent in other districts and cities. The established parties are already looking forward to next year’s state elections in Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, where the AfD could also succeed and even become the strongest party.

The Tagesspiegel app Current news, background information and analysis directly on your smartphone. Plus the digital newspaper. Download here for free.

Three places the AfD could soon rule

The next district election in Brandenburg will take place in about three months, on October 8, in the Dahme-Spreewald district. In the neighboring Oder-Spree district, it was already tight in mid-May this year, when AfD candidate Rainer Galla lost 47.6% of the vote to his SPD opponent Frank Steffen in the second round for the district office. .

In Dahme-Spreewald, the AfD is currently the second strongest force in the district council. In the 2019 European elections, he was even ahead with 20.7 percent of the votes, in the same year also in the state constituency of Dahme-Spreewald III, where candidate Hans-Christoph Berndt won the direct mandate with 28.9 percent. . Berndt has been the leader of the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament since 2020 and heads the association “Zukunft Heimat”, which Brandenburg’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution has called “proven right-wing extremist”.

Former District Administrator Stephan Loge (SPD), who won office on the first try in the last election, is no longer running this time around – which could boost the chances for the AfD. The fact that she has high hopes for the post of district administrator can be seen from the fact that she is nominating a federal politician as a candidate: Steffen Kotré. He is the spokesman for economic and energy policy for the AfD parliamentary group. This shift back to the municipal level is unusual.

178,000 people live in the Dahme-Spreewald district, more than three times as many as in the Sonneberg district. It extends to the city of Berlin, includes Königs Wusterhausen and Berlin Airport BER in Schönefeld. In May, the region made headlines when locals racially abused Berlin 10th graders at a summer camp in Heidesee.

The lessons from the AfD Sonneberg earthquake A tipping point for federal policy

In Saxony, most district administrators have already been elected in 2022. There are mayoral elections in many places here in 2023 – the most important one in November in the town of Pirna, which has a population of 40,000. In the last federal elections, the AfD won a direct seat in the local constituency, and in Pirna candidate Steffen Janich received 31.1% of the vote. The AfD is also the strongest faction on the city council. In the 2019 local elections, she received 19.6 percent, a list that emerged from the party split of former party leader Frauke Petry polled a further 9.9 percent.

As in Dahme-Spreewald, the previous holder is also retiring in Pirna. During the corona crisis, Klaus-Peter Hanke sought dialogue in the deeply divided city, but he also signed an appeal from restaurateurs and retailers who warned that “hygiene demonstrations” could keep tourists away. Opponents insulted, pushed and hit police officers in Pirna, in May 2020, a national photo of Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer in a tinfoil hat was taken here.

Tim Lochner, who left the CDU in 2016 and claims to have taken part in Pegida demonstrations before, is now running for the AfD. Lochner was also the leader of a demonstration against the Corona measures and was fined for taking part in another unauthorized demonstration.

In Thuringia, the next mayoral and district elections will take place in spring 2024. In the last election in 2018, the AfD fared better in the city of Gera, population 91,000. Its candidate lost 30.2% to the current mayor, Julian Vonarb, in the second round. AfD Deputy Spokesperson Stephan Brandner, who sits in the Bundestag for the city, was directly elected in the constituency and received 29.6% of the vote of the people of Gera. He is considered a confidant of faction leader Björn Höcke.

Which state parliaments could the AfD move to as the strongest force

At the state level, the Bavarian and Hessian parliaments will be elected this year on 8 October. In both federated states, the party is far from having power options. In Bavaria, the AfD is at 12% in the most recent poll, and in the last state election in 2018 it already won 10% of the vote.

But Bavaria has a special feature in the federal structure. Here free voters have a seat in the state parliament and even in the state government. Its strongman, Deputy Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger, has recently used politically skeptical right-wing populist rhetoric. That’s what happened when he appeared at the demonstration against the heating law in Erding in mid-June. Here Aiwanger demanded that “the vast silent majority of this country” must “regain democracy”. With such statements, Aiwanger nets potential AfD voters. Recent polls have seen free voters in Bavaria at eleven percent, roughly at the level of the 2018 election (11.6 percent).

A new state parliament is also being elected in Hesse, where the AfD was founded. Here, the AfD is 13% in the last poll and therefore at the level of the 2018 election (13.1%).

The political situation and climate in the eastern states of Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, which will elect their state parliaments in September 2024, are completely different. The AfD was already the strongest party in Saxony and Thuringia (in Brandenburg, the SPD) in the 2021 federal elections.

More about Sonneberg and the AfD research on Tagesspiegel Plus

Take a deep breath please! Five reasons why the AfD’s rise shouldn’t be overestimated Chancellorship run with the AfD “A smart move at this time” Sonneberg lands the first AfD district administrator? “We are not a city full of fascists”

In Brandenburg, the AfD is between 23 and 25 percent in the latest polls, in Saxony between 24 and 28 percent, in Thuringia more recently at 28 percent. As things stand, the AfD could become the strongest faction in every state parliament. So, will we have the first AfD state parliament presidents in 2024? The already difficult task of forming a government is set to become even more complex.

The AfD could already achieve national success in the June 2024 European elections. European elections tend to have low turnout, which strengthens protest parties. In 2019, the AfD scored eleven percent nationwide. On European Election Day, citizens of nine federal states will vote through their municipal representations, including in Baden-Württemberg and in all eastern states except Berlin. Going forward, that should bring the AfD numerous mandates on city and district councils.

A man identified as Ankush Dutta committed a scam at a luxury hotel in India and stayed there for 603 days without paying for his stay. According to The Indian Express, the scammer caused $70,000 (about R$333,000) in damage to the facility. The police have already been called by those responsible and the investigation is ongoing.

Dutta booked a room at Roseate House Hotel in New Delhi on May 30, 2019. He was originally scheduled to leave the property the next morning, but that didn’t happen until January 22, 2021, making it nearly two years since his checkin. in.

According to the newspaper, representatives filed charges of conspiracy, forgery and fraud against several employees. With this in mind, police are investigating the possibility that the scammer enlisted assistance or bribed Roseate officials to tamper with and tamper with the records during his stay.

The local media have already pointed out one of them. Dutta had an accomplice named Prem Prakash, a former employee who is said to have played a key role in the scheme. Prakash acted as reception manager and had unlimited access to the Roseate House database.

“It is alleged that hotel employees forged, added and deleted numerous entries of said guest’s account in the hotel’s system. This system is used to maintain and monitor the stay/visit of guests and their accounts. “The accounts were falsified in order to disguise management’s actual outstanding debts and thus prevent discovery of their intentional wrongdoing,” the hotel’s complaint reads.

Check out some pictures of the hotel:

Property records also show that Dutta was moved from one room to another. He even had his stay at the hotel reduced to 308 nights in order to show a lower value than the actual one. Agents suspect that Prakash used his credentials to break into and modify the system.

Hotel policy requires that the CEO be notified if a guest’s outstanding bill exceeds 72 hours. It is not yet known why Dutta’s extended stay remained undiscovered for so long. After the concerns have been raised, the authorities will continue the investigation. So far no one has been arrested.
