Fox News has ended its experiments and unsurprisingly picked Jesse Watters to replace Tucker Carlson at 8 p.m., the station’s favorite spot long occupied by Bill O’Reilly before he was fired himself. Rising star Watters hosted two hit shows, The Five at 5pm and The Jesse Watters Show at 7pm. The clip below illustrates the Watters journey:

Laura Ingraham, who raged at 9 p.m., will replace Watters at 7 p.m. and Sean Hannity, who long held the 10 p.m. time slot, will succeed Ingraham at 9 p.m. Greg Gutfeld, who bills himself as the king of late-night TV humor, will be telling his anti-woke jokes at 10pm instead of 11pm.

We’ll see if the reviews are there.

Negotiations are stalling said the drivers union RTC

“Negotiations are stalling,” said the drivers’ union RTC

Five days ahead of a possible strike that would completely paralyze scheduled services on the Capital Transport Network (RTC), the Bus Drivers Union (CSN) regrets that “negotiations are stalled”.

“The employer comes to the table unprepared and is holding back any progress that may be made,” lamented a union source familiar with the matter.

According to her, “Documents were made available to the employer in May to deal with certain issues and the union only received these documents back last week.” It has been almost three weeks since we sent out our strike notice and we seem to be slowing the pace on the part of the employer not to increase.

Upcoming press conferences

Hélène Fortin, leader of the drivers’ union, will hold an impromptu press conference this Monday at 12:30 p.m. to give an update on the talks. The Employers’ Party should react later in the afternoon as the RTC will organize a press conference at 2pm on a completely different topic.

Two weeks ago, the two parties began intensive negotiations under the aegis of a Labor Ministry mediator.

The drivers’ union strike notice covers the period July 1-16, which falls during the Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ). The collective agreement expired on June 30, 2022.

A recent decision by the Administrative Labor Court (TAT) states that no essential bus services will be offered in the event of a strike.

The RTC has not yet said if it will appeal the decision, which has been heavily criticized by Mayor Bruno Marchand.

Biden leverages infrastructure investments for his White House campaign

This Saturday, a bridge on the Yellowstone River in Montana collapsed when a train carrying hazardous substances ran over it. Two weeks ago, a truck crashed in Philadelphia, collapsing a bridge on I-95, a major artery on the east coast. The United States continues to have a somewhat outdated infrastructure that requires large investments. President Joe Biden has gotten Congress to pass multimillion-dollar investment legislation and has climbed on its back to allocate money for foundation needs across the country. With these investments, he will campaign for re-election in 2024. This Monday he started a new tour called Invest in America from the White House.

However, the new round of investment announcements begins with telecom infrastructure and internet access. According to the White House, more than 8.5 million homes and small businesses live in areas without high-speed Internet access, and millions more struggle with limited or unreliable Internet options. “Just as Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Act powered almost every home and farm in America, President Biden and Vice President Harris are fulfilling their historic commitment to connect all Americans to reliable and affordable high-speed Internet by the end of the decade,” announced the White House.

The Department of Commerce announced Monday that each state, territory and the District of Columbia will receive a high-speed internet connection under the Broadband Equal Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, a $42,450 million grant program. Internet infrastructure should be provided at the current exchange rate) created in the Infrastructure Act. Biden appeared at the White House this Monday to introduce it.

This is the largest internet funding announcement ever made in the United States, and with it, Biden is beginning a three-week nationwide tour of the President, Vice President and other senior members of his administration to highlight investments, jobs and projects emerging in the current Phase were carried out presidency.

Fund awards award more than $1 billion to 19 states. The top 10 recipients are, in alphabetical order: Alabama, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. The goal is for this and other programs to connect all citizens and small businesses to fast, reliable, and affordable internet by 2030.

Biden is also set to deliver a speech this Wednesday in Chicago, Illinois, to defend his economic leadership that has created millions of jobs and pushed unemployment to its lowest level in half a century. Inflation has been the major driver of the economy over the last two years, but it has fallen to less than half over the last year.

With some Republicans embroiled in the debate over Donald Trump’s allegations, Biden wants to show concrete results. As early as last November’s general election, he appealed to the working-class electorate and presented himself as the most pro-union president in US history, but then gas and food prices eclipsed any economic achievement. With inflation now down to 4%, the lowest level since April 2021, the President wants to bulk up his chest and deliver a speech in Chicago on Wednesday about what the White House has dubbed Bidenomics, the economic policies of his term.

However, the economic prospects are uncertain. Economists are forecasting a recession that has not materialized for more than a year. It is now expected towards the end of this year, when the impact of the Federal Reserve’s rate hikes will be felt more strongly. So far, however, the strength of the labor market has remained intact despite the tightening of monetary conditions.

Economists are pointing to a mild recession, although there are also voices that expect a soft landing for the economy, meaning a slowdown in economic activity that will allow inflation to be controlled without the country slipping into recession. If a recession does occur, Biden is better off seeing it come soon and not overlapping with campaigning for the 2024 presidential election, in which he is seeking re-election.

NHL Draft I think its going to be the worst

NHL Draft: “I think it’s going to be the worst year in Quebec’s history”

With the NHL draft just around the corner, we shouldn’t expect a big harvest for the QMJHL, warn five recruiters we interviewed The newspaper. “I think it’s going to be the worst year in the history of Quebec in the Repechage,” says even one of them.

• Also read: Poor vintage: The recruiters and general managers didn’t even come to Quebec this season

The word ran throughout the winter in the various amphitheaters of the Cecchini circuit. Boy Scouts have reiterated several times that the QMJHL class of 2023 was not a great class. If young Ethan Gauthier, who recently joined the Drummondville Voltigeurs from the Sherbrooke Phoenix, Étienne Morin of the Moncton Wildcats and Mathieu Cataford of the Halifax Mooseheads seem to stand out, he’s rather thin afterwards.

“I usually go to the draft with 10 or 12 names on my roster, and this year I’ve got enough on one hand to tell you how many players I have. There will certainly be more than four or five players drafted, but I’m not sure if we’re getting closer to 20,” says one of them.

Since 2010, the QMJHL has hovered around the number of 20 prepared applicants, with some years even exceeding 30 years, for example 2013 and 2015.

But it seems we’re heading towards more similar years to 2016 and 2017, when 14 players were selected at each of those two auctions, in what was the Quebec circuit’s worst harvest in 25 years at the time.

In 2017, 27 prospects were placed on the final list by NHL Central Scouting, only 14 heard their names. This year, 33 QMJHL players appear on this list.

“I was disappointed all year”

But when we’re talking about one of the worst years, it’s not just about the number of players selected, confirms another veteran scout we spoke to.

“Personally, I think it’s the weakest cuvée I’ve ever seen,” he agrees. As for the numbers, I don’t know, but as far as Impact players go, it hasn’t been a good year. I’ve been disappointed all year.

This recruiter goes as far as adding: He wouldn’t be surprised if no QMJHL player was selected in the first round in Nashville Wednesday night.

“It’s the shortest list I’ve ever made. I wasn’t able to fill in 20 names, while I usually never had a list of less than 30 names. In our meetings we talked about several players, but often we came to the conclusion that we weren’t ready to make a pick for him and that if he didn’t get drafted we would invite him.

Another recruiter developing for an East formation is toned down a bit.

“Our list of Quebec players isn’t huge, I’ll admit that. However, I see it differently: you can only have five players on your list, it only takes one to become a good NHL player. Even if you had 102 Quebec men on your list, finding the right one is your job.

A possible explanation?

For these three hockey players, it’s difficult to pin down the reason why this 2023 vintage is weaker than the previous ones.

“It’s not alarming to me. I often say that the barrel is like wine. Why is a wine from such a region exceptional one year while the following year the same wine is perfectly fine? Why is it sometimes a big year for Sweden in the draft and the other is Ontario? The design is cycles.

“I can hear people’s comments the day after the repechage,” adds one of his colleagues. People will want to revolutionize the sport of ice hockey in Quebec! It’s a matter of cycles. In this year’s vintage we encounter players who have not played Midget AAA due to the pandemic. We can’t investigate what impact it had, but it’s a possible solution.

No excuses

For another Western scout, it’s partly a matter of cycles, he concedes. However, as the QMJHL develops its prospects, it needs to look in the mirror and stop hiding behind the league’s victories at the Memorial Cup tournament.

“The draft and the Memorial Cup are two completely different things. We are good at making connections between unrelated things. In Quebec we work in a way. In the west they don’t do trades like we do and respect the game a bit more. Ditto for Ontario. We have the right way to build champion teams, but that has nothing to do with the development of young people aged 17 or 18.

India: Workers are chained and forced into slavery to pay their debts

A dozen chained workers in India were rescued from “torture” where they were forced to dig a well for 12 hours a day without pay, a state human rights organization said Monday.

This case sheds new light on a long-banned practice of forced labor, dubbed “debt slavery” by human rights activists, which forces debtors to pay back money they borrowed when interest accumulates.

The fate of these 11 workers from Maharashtra (West) reached the ears of state police because one of them managed to escape and guided them to free his comrades on June 17, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said. .

“They were forced to work 12-hour days without pay to dig a well,” the NHRC said, adding that they were chained to prevent them from escaping, fed once a day and forced to take their to relieve themselves where they were. They worked.

Four people were arrested by police, but NHRC says the task goes beyond “a simple rescue by police with the arrest of some of the accused.”

The NHRC considers the case “a gross violation of the 1976 Abolition of Forced Labor.”

Activists, who estimate the number of forced laborers in India at around 10 million, denounce that this abolition is regularly violated without much risk of prosecution.

In this case, according to NHRC, the bosses were used to using workers and then imposing such brutal conditions on them that when they were released after three or four months, they “preferred to flee without asking for their wages to find new ones to escape torture.”

BET Awards: Rap legend Busta Rhymes delivers a moving message against violence

US rap veteran Busta Rhymes spoke from the bottom of his heart yesterday against the violence plaguing the industry.

The 51-year-old artist spoke at the BET Awards, held in Los Angeles, from where he departed with an award honoring his long career. In his speech, the rapper was full of praise for his environment and the next generation of musicians. Busta then turned to artists who would like to follow in his footsteps.

“We have to stop this petty argument,” he said, wiping away a tear. “I’m sick of seeing this. We need to get out of this violent narrative, stop dividing and start helping each other,” he pleaded.

Since the beginning of 2022, nearly ten rappers performing in the United States have died from violent circumstances, including Takeoff, a member of the popular group Migos, who was shot dead last November.

Theft: Thanks to AirTags, he finds more than $1.3 million worth of computer cargo

The owner of a computer hardware company was able to locate more than $1.3 million worth of merchandise thanks to AirTags he had installed as a precaution.

Bit Intelligence Corp initially hired a freight forwarder to ship the computer equipment to Alberta. On June 15, an articulated lorry arrived at the company to take possession of the load. Then he leaves with 22 pallets of computer processors.

However, instead of going to Alberta, the truck and its driver went to Mascouche instead. On June 16th, the company actually locates its cargo in this commune of Lanaudière.

The transport company asks for explanations, but finds that the driver and the truck cannot be found.

The Sherbrooke Police Department therefore launched an investigation on June 20th.

“Thanks to the plaintiff’s vigilance in installing AirTags on his goods, the device was confiscated and, in cooperation with the Mascouche Police, returned to its owner. The truck trailer was confiscated as part ownership and the investigation is ongoing,” says a press release from the SPS.

No arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing.

The product, which retails for about $39 in Canada, was originally designed to locate lost items, keys, a purse, or other valuable items. It was released in April 2021.

As big as a quarter, its small size makes it easy to hide.
