Polling stations are closed in Guatemala and the counting of the votes begins

After an election day marked by high turnout and reports of numerous irregularities, the polling stations in Guatemala closed at 6 p.m. local time this Sunday and the counting of the votes began.

Guatemala’s President calls for participation in general elections

Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) Judge Ranulfo Rojas urged the various political organizations to carefully follow the counting in the vote-taking bodies so that it is properly done.

He recalled that the TSE followed up on many circumstances it advised against throughout the day to allow people to vote safely. He also expressed his support for the process of informing the public about the details of the election.

96 complaints about irregularities were lodged with the MP

Judges of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) of Guatemala gave opinions on the general elections taking place in that country and confirmed that as of 2:00 p.m. local time this Sunday, 96 complaints of irregularities had been lodged with the Public Ministry.

According to judge Irma Palencia, five incidents were known by 3:00 p.m., three of which had already been clarified. He explained that these are isolated events and that they do not affect the electoral process.

He estimated that by that time an influx of voters had been noted, which he considered positive, although he could not specify how many voted due to the specifics of the electoral process in that country. He urged voters to use the remaining hours to vote.

Palencia and Judge Gabriel Aguilera confirmed that it was decided to suspend the elections in the municipality of San José del Golfo for reasons of force majeure and in the interest of protecting the integrity of the participants.

They said this will affect four counties and 24 polling stations that will be reactivated for the second round of voting scheduled for August 20.

Responding to a complaint filed by the Creo party in the municipality of San Miguel Petapa, Aguilera said the aforementioned political force would need to provide an adequate challenge for the TSE to govern after Election Day.

Another incident was also confirmed in San Martín Zapotitlán, Retalhuleu, where a group of people destroyed election materials. On the matter, Judge Rafael Rojas said that the municipal electoral authority had decided to protect the safety of voters, voting materials and facilities.

He added that there were several arrests and that the authorities were investigating these incidents. He indicated that the TSE has yet to decide what steps to take.

Exercising the right to vote, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei said that 195 people have been jailed for irregularities so far and that most communities are at peace. He explained that there had been 21 reports of power shortages, most of which were due to fallen trees on power lines. He found that most of the problems had been resolved.

You denounce the vote-buying of the governing party

More than 9 million people have been called to vote in Guatemala’s general elections this Sunday, where they will vote for the new president and vice-president, as well as 160 MPs, 20 representatives of the Central American Parliament and 340 mayors.

Complaints about alleged irregularities were made that day. Social Democrat candidate Sandra Torres denounced this Sunday that the ruling party is “buying votes” in Guatemala’s elections after voting in a school in the capital that morning.

“The official party can’t give gifts or buy votes because we complain that they’re buying votes with food distribution,” the former first lady, who directs voter intent polls, said after casting her ballot at the Valle Verde school in Guatemala City surrounded by reporters.

According to a ProDatos study published this week in local newspaper Prensa Libre, Torres is confident of entering the second round after topping the polls with 21.3 percent of voting intentions.

The candidate from the National Unity of Hope (UNE) party urged Guatemalans who have not yet turned up to vote before the shutdown, which will take place at 18:00 local time (Monday 00:00 GMT), to get to the voting centers tomorrow).

Various irregularities occur throughout the day, including solicitation, pressure against voters, police intimidation and more.

Members of the Guatemalan National Civil Police have used tear gas in the municipality of San Jose del Golfo, where unrest has been raging since Saturday, preventing elections from starting.

The clashes began with the arrival of polling personnel, who were pushed by a group of buses, sprayed with petrol and threatened to set it on fire.

An hour earlier, at 07:00 (local time), the President of the TSE, Irma Elizabeth Palencia Orellana, and the President of the Central District Electoral Committee, José Francisco Murúa, among others, met, along with other election officials and foreign observers. Others began the electoral process.

Palencia Orellana called on Guatemalans to go to the polls to later proceed with the cutting of the symbolic ribbon that opens the elections, while at the same time a young woman, wanting to vote for the first time, cast her vote at the polling station.

In a first case, residents of San José del Golfo allowed four voting centers to open over alleged voter brain drain.

The President of the TSE pointed out that the polling centers had been moved in such a way that “citizens arrive freely and feel that everything is in order”.

Around 9.3 million Guatemalans are called to vote, which will also determine the vice president and 160 congressmen for the period 2024-2028.

They must also elect representatives to the Central American Parliament and 340 new municipal bodies. According to TSE, 3,482 voting centers have been installed in the 22 departments of the Central American country.

The electoral body announced that there will be 24,427 polling stations to allow the more than 9 million Guatemalans to cast their ballots on the five printed ballot papers that will be sent out one by one.

These votes are for the election of a president, congressmen by national list, congressmen by region, members of the Central American Parliament and municipal mayors.

The capital, Guatemala City, concentrates most of the voting centers as 2.1 million people are eligible to vote in the metropolitan area.

The first results are expected to be released by the TSE after 10:00 p.m. local time and the audit hearings are scheduled for June 26-30.

If one of the candidates does not get 50 percent plus one of the votes, a second ballot will be held on August 20 between the two couples who had the majority of the votes on the first date.

The TSE judges decided to exclude from the presidential election indigenous leader Thelma Cabrera, the son of former President Álvaro Arzú Irigoyen, Roberto Arzú García Granados and businessman Carlos Pineda, who led the polls.

UN drug report warns of synthetic drug boom

UN drug report warns of synthetic drug boom

The annual report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna warns that the expansion of illegal drug markets, synthetic drugs that are cheap and easy to produce, would change trade and be associated with deadly consequences for users. Whether it’s fentanyl in the US or methamphetamine in Afghanistan: synthetic drugs are booming. And environmental destruction and crime in the Amazon basin is further fueled by drugs.

The number of narcotic users who inject drugs in 2021 was estimated at 13.2 million, 18% more than previously assumed, according to UNODC data. In the same year, the number of people using drugs worldwide increased to over 296 million, a 23% increase over the previous decade. Meanwhile, the number of people suffering from substance use disorders has increased to 39.5 million, a 45% increase in a decade.

According to the UNODC, Afghanistan’s national drug ban has reduced previously booming opium production, with this year’s harvest drastically reduced, according to reports. What could be beneficial globally would come at the expense of many farmers who lack alternative sources of income. However, there is also a global trend in Afghanistan, as the country is also a major methamphetamine producer in the region, which could see a shift towards synthetic drugs.

Under the slogan “cheap and easy”, the drug report warns of the growing dominance of synthetic addictive substances, because the cheap, simple and quick production of these drugs is changing illegal markets. The criminals who manufacture methamphetamine – the most illicitly manufactured drug in the world – use several strategies to evade authorities: new synthesis routes, new bases of operations and the uncontrolled use of precursors are the means to circumvent regulation.

Fentanyl is another example of the synthetic substance that dramatically changed the opioid market in North America, with fatal consequences. In 2021, manufactured fentanyl, which is 50 times more potent than heroin, accounted for most of the estimated 90,000 overdose deaths in North America.

Pharmaceutical fentanyl is approved for the treatment of severe pain often associated with advanced cancer. However, illegally manufactured fentanyl is sold illegally because of its heroin-like effects and is often mixed with heroin or other drugs, such as cocaine, or compressed into counterfeit pills.

And in Europe, while the war in Ukraine has wiped out traditional cocaine and heroin routes, here too the global trend is striking, with signs that the conflict could trigger an expansion in the manufacture and trafficking of synthetic drugs. The combination of war and drugs also affects Africa’s Sahel region, where illicit trade serves to finance armed groups and non-state insurgents.

This report also devotes a separate chapter to the connection between drug trafficking and environmental crimes in the Amazon basin, as well as clinical trials with psychedelics and the medical use of marijuana. The “World Drug Report 2023” also examines the correlation between social and economic inequalities and the drug problem, as well as the resulting environmental destruction and human rights violations.

Catastrophe in Chile caused by the heaviest rain since 1993; Look at the pictures

Chile is facing the consequences of the largest rainfall episode since 1993. The amount of precipitation at the weather station in Maule was almost 800 mm in just 72 hours. Rain in extraordinary amounts caused by atmospheric flow leaves people dead and missing.

Chilean authorities on Saturday declared a disaster zone in several regions of the country, from Valparaíso to Biobío, as problems were registered in central and southern Chile due to the incessant rains caused by the crossing of a frontal system and the action of a storm atmospheric flow .

Home and Public Safety Minister Carolina Tohá stressed that the government had declared a disaster zone “due to the whole scenario that we have and also the concerns of the authorities”.

“It was decided to enact the Disaster Zone Ordinance in all affected regions, from Valparaíso to Biobío. This makes it possible that once the planned emergency resources are depleted, additional resources can be deployed,” said the head of the Chilean ministry.

The heavy rains caused the Mapocho and Maipo rivers, which rise in the Andes and cross the Chilean capital of Santiago, to burst their banks. Other rivers that cross the central zone of Chile have also burst their banks, such as the Cachapoal, the Tinguiririca and the Teno.

According to the presidential delegate of the Santiago metropolitan area, Constanza Martínez, it was “a very heavy rain and very little time” that followed a structural drought, she said. He added that in some areas of the mountains it has been the heaviest rainfall since 1993.

The government released a new tally on Sunday, reporting two dead, six missing and nearly eight thousand isolated. There are 7,977 isolated people and 3,383 homeless. Regarding housing construction, the government stressed that 1,951 were slightly damaged, 751 were badly damaged and 54 were totaled.

Images captured from the air and broadcast on local television in cities like Coltauco and Licantén show the magnitude of the crisis. In the first case, in the O’Higgins region and 120 kilometers south of Santiago, the estuary of the Cachapoal River flooded 80% of the city, leaving 200 people isolated. In Licantén, Maule region and 210 kilometers from the capital, 700 people were isolated and almost all their buildings, including their hospital, were flooded due to the flooding of the Mataquito River.

The overflowing of the rivers caused disruptions on some of the most important highways, such as the one that connects the country from north to south and the one that runs from Santiago to the city and port of Valparaíso. In addition, railway bridges were damaged by the force of the rivers.

Some regions hit by the floods were hit by massive wildfires last summer that destroyed 439,000 hectares and claimed 26 lives. The heavy rains that began on Thursday were concentrated for a few hours, mainly in the mountain range and foothills of the Andes, where it usually snows. This led to severe hill erosion and a rapid increase in river flows.

According to data from meteorological stations, the regions from Maule to Biobío recorded the highest rainfall. According to Meteorologia de Chile, accumulations of over 500 mm occurred near the Andes.

In Maule, the Rio Claro station, located at an altitude of 550 meters, almost at the confluence with the Maule River, recorded almost 600 mm of rain. Another station in Bullileo added 772 mm in 72 hours to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The heavy rainfall and snowfall between Chile and Argentina is due to a highintensity atmospheric flow that originates in the Pacific and transports enormous amounts of moisture to the Andes. Since the isotherm is high, that is, the temperature at high altitude reaches only 0 °C, precipitation falls as rain and in excessive amounts in many places where precipitation should come in the form of snow.

CONICET

Atmospheric fluxes are long, concentrated regions of the atmosphere that carry humid air from the tropics to higher latitudes. Depending on the region of the world, humid air combined with high wind speeds leads to heavy rain and snow.

These extreme precipitation events can cause flash floods, landslides, and catastrophic damage to life and property. Although atmospheric flows come in many shapes and sizes, those that contain the greatest amounts of water vapor can result in extreme rainfall and flooding, often terminating over watersheds that are prone to flooding.

Such events can cause road delays, trigger landslides, and cause catastrophic damage to life and property. A wellknown example of an atmospheric flow is the “Pineapple Express,” a powerful atmospheric flow that can transport moisture from the tropics near Hawaii to the west coast of the United States.

THE cold play continue to leave their mark in Italy. After the double concert in Naples, the band returns Milan, where she has performed several times in recent years. With four dates at San Siro Stadium, 25-26-28-29 June 2023, they close the Italian bracket of the Music of the Spheres world tour. From Viva la Vida to Magic, the band returns to Meazza to revisit the repertoire’s big hits, but as always, at every venue visited, there’s a tribute to the host city.

As for the structure of the Coldplay concert, each night will be divided into four acts. Shown across Europe, the show has a total duration of approximately two hours, which may vary depending on the presence of additional guest stars or encores. As in Naples, the event will be opened by the Scots Chvrches and Mara Sattei. The gates open at 7pm each evening and this is the possible lineup of the four evenings:

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, The Weeknd retweeted a fan who said, “I cried a lot this episode.” I’ve never connected with a character on a show like I have with Jocelyn. your spirit. Your mother dynamic. It’s scary. The idol is REAL. And a lot of people just don’t get it.’

The Weeknd replied, “They will… take your time, I promise.” Until then, enjoy the show for yourself and add a heart emoji.

The Weeknd also shrugged off the criticism in an interview with Variety – the same outlet that recently ran a headline calling his acting skills “absent”.

The Weeknd dismissed the setback as “highly anticipated,” citing Carrie director Brian De Palma and Basic Instinct director Paul Verhoeven as “an inspiration.”

He argued, “We’re playing with genres with this show and doing exactly what we wanted to do.” And none of that comes as a surprise.’

Since screening in Cannes, the show has garnered critical acclaim for its portrayal of Jocelyn, who was at one point described as a “human assock”.

In one episode, Jocelyn masturbates and self-harms while mourning the loss of her mother, eventually falling into the carnal bondage of weekend character Tedros.

Kesha: A Near-Fatal Fertility Surgery | Hollywoodpq.com – HollywoodPQ

Kesha revealed that she nearly died following a New Year’s Eve performance and that she spent nearly two weeks in a Miami hospital following the incident last January.

“I almost died in January,” she says in an interview for Selfwhile explaining that it was actually a recent procedure to freeze her eggs that had brought her to this state, which could have been fatal to her.

“It was horrible,” says Kesha, explaining that the incident was very difficult for her psychologically.

With the surgery, the 36-year-old singer says she wanted to take the time to think about whether she really wanted a child.

Thankfully, the star seems to be doing much better now:

“I finally feel healed, but it took a few months.”

Remember, in 2022, the star claimed he had been diagnosed with an immune deficiency disease, Page Six also reported.

A diagnosis that would have made it very difficult to recover from a fertility procedure like the one described by Kesha.

The singer released her new album, muzzleon May 19th.

A man died in the Saint Lawrence River in the L’Ange-Gardien sector near Quebec on Saturday evening.

Local firefighters received a call just before 10pm relating to a person in distress on the riverbank along the Côte-de-Beaupré.

The 50-year-old, who was traveling alone on his personal watercraft, broke down and had to swim back to shore.

The Coast Guard has been called to help search for the missing man underwater. He was found around 10:45 p.m. and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

According to the SQ, the man was not wearing a life jacket when his body was recovered.

High tribute

This is the fifth drowning accident in Quebec in a few days. After the Lac-Saint-Jean event, four other events of the same type occurred on June 23 and 24.

On Friday evening, a 22-year-old young man sank in the waters of the Saint Lawrence River on Verdun Beach in Montreal. The twenty-year-old was outside the monitored bathing area.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, a 26-year-old man from Rouyn-Noranda went swimming in Lake Opasatica in Témiscamingue and never returned. His body was found the next day by divers off the Sûreté du Québec.

Another 29-year-old man sank to the bottom of Lac Beauchamp near Amos in Abitibi on Saturday. The latter would have fallen off his paddle board without a personal buoyancy aid.

This weekend’s massacre brought the number of drownings in Quebec to 35 in 2023. According to the Life Saving Society website, 24 people drowned on the same day last year.
