More than 1,500 migrants arrive in Lampedusa in three days

The dramas and the massive arrival of immigrants on the Lampedusa coast follow one another. This Saturday at least 40 people disappeared in a new shipwreck from which only four were rescued. It is believed that at least one minor was on board.

More than 1,500 migrants have landed on the island in the past three days. Around 1,000 have already been transferred to reception centres. On Saturday, a boat was found drifting with 65 people on board, including Pakistanis, Syrians, Egyptians and Somalis, who were leaving Libya to pay between 2,000 and 4,000 euros for a trip that almost cost her her life.

The migrants left Zuara in Libya on Friday morning after paying between $2,000 and $4,000 each for the boat ride. Two other ships were intercepted by the Port Authority patrol and the Guardia di Finanza en route to the Italian island. The people on board were taken to other regions.

Titanic, All, Everest: Why do people take risks?

In the depths of the famous shipwreck of the “Titanic” or high on Mount Everest, maybe even in space – why do people keep looking for the risk and the kick?

For some people, the idea of such risky endeavors makes them restless and nauseous, while others seek out these activities and find the ultimate thrill in them.

They are willing to pay big money and take big risks, like the five people aboard the missing Titan submersible who were searched for days near the wreckage of the Titanic in the North Atlantic – in vain, as it turned out.

A “special risk appetite”

Whether it’s rich people for whom high ticket prices are not a problem, or people who save money for years – they all have a “particular risk appetite”. They actively look for this risk and see it as a kick, explains Berlin psychology professor Birgitta Sticher from the University of Economics and Law (HWR). “It’s also about the feeling of challenge and vitality. You can call it a personality trait. At the other extreme are people with a very strong need for security and control.”

be winner

These people take the risk of such ventures with the hope of emerging ‘victorious’. “For example, if you thought you couldn’t survive an excursion, you wouldn’t participate. I assume that most people who do something like this also believe in technology. A certain hope that everything will go well. Wealthy people may also want to show that they can do things with their money that others cannot.

Also, for some people, the motivation behind these endeavors may be an entry in the Guinness Book of Records, a souvenir photo, or simply personal self-affirmation. Others travel out of scientific curiosity and, in this way, have contributed to the exploration and measurement of the world and space, and therefore to scientific progress for centuries.

Space is becoming mainstream

In the past, it was mainly explorers, individually or in groups, who often organized and funded their own ventures. Thanks to improvements in technology, these exciting offerings have moved closer to the mainstream in recent years. There are now several companies that transport people who are not trained astronauts for shorter or longer trips to space, such as Blue Origin by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos or SpaceX by Elon Musk.

Private individuals are also making more and more flights into space. ©APA

British businessman Hamish Harding, who is also on board the “Titan”, had booked a short space trip with Blue Origin last year. According to the media, these trips are expected to cost around 30 million dollars (about 27 million euros). However, manned space travel is still considered technically extremely difficult and risky. Just a few months after Harding’s voyage, for example, a Blue Origin rocket crashed shortly after launch, fortunately there were no people on board.

A lot of money for a possible death

At around 8849 meters, Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. According to initial estimates by the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism, more than 600 local climbers, guides and mountain porters have arrived this year.

In total, there are 18 official routes on Mount Everest. Hundreds dare to climb every year – there are real queues on the way to the summit. ©AP

At least 12 people have died trying to climb the mountain this year. For this undertaking, climbers must calculate tens of thousands of dollars.

Dive on the “Titanic”

The demand for excursions to the famous wreck of the “Titanic” is also very high. In 2021 alone, the company Oceangate Expeditions, which is behind the submersible “Titan”, hit the wreck six times.

In 2022, it was seven times, said the company’s head, Stockton Rush, in a lecture last year. A ticket will cost around $250,000.

Harding is involved in the famous “Explorers Club” in New York, where explorers have gathered for over 100 years. In an open letter to its members, club president Richard Garriott of Cayeux wrote: “When I saw Hamish at the Global Exploration Summit last week, his excitement about this expedition was palpable. I know he was looking forward to doing research in this place. .” “We all share the fervent hope that the submersible will be found as soon as possible and that the crew will be safe,” said Garriott de Cayeux.

watchOS 10: Apple still takes sports seriously – WatchGeneration

2022 was the big sporting year for the Apple Watch. A year ago Apple surprised everyone by adding many features to the exercise application and a few months later introduced the Apple Watch Ultra. At the time of the year-end financial statements, the question was whether Apple would continue its efforts over the long term or if it was just a fad.

The WWDC 2023 provided new answers that lead to optimism: watchOS 10 erases a good half of the criticisms that could be expressed in connection with the use of sports on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch gets (seriously) on the bike

Last year, Apple focused its efforts on running and, to a lesser extent, swimming. With watchOS 10, the bike has the right to preferential treatment. The Exercise app now supports most accessories for sports use. This ranges from speed sensors to cadence sensors to power sensors.

If the first two cost a few tens of euros on average, then the price of a power meter is not inferior to that of an iPad. Incidentally, some have already tried to find out if running sensors like the Stryd are natively managed by watchOS 10, unfortunately that’s not the case…at the moment?

The shorts in town: an affront. And dress like the kids? It’s like using a bottle after the age of 4 Milano

Fashion, stainless traditions, Bon Ton. Trends, tics and quirks. Charm. The timeless spirit of Milan, which for this reason is (often) ahead of its time. Two perspectives, even generational, on our beloved city. All of this is told by Lina Sotis and Michela Proiettiand more in the new column on milano.corriere.it. Here is the previous episode. Today the new. Have fun while reading!

Before walking around town, maybe there were too many people, not many people (why…?), but the people around were the same as you. Now it will be the fashion, it seems, to change got used to the bad fashion walking the streets and hasn’t even been attacked, nobody noticed. How bad it is to see a girl humiliate her own town walking around in shorts, shorts that see the apple! Knee length jeans are tolerable, you’re always a chump, but at least a town chump, not exactly the one that comes from… yeah, where do so many girls come from in pink, short shorts that seem like nothing, or those hideous frayed ones Shorts showing all types of legs. Here you are, Here it doesn’t matter if the legs are beautiful or ugly, it’s terrible to see themabominable, as the gentleman, googly-eyed in the street, says and says, “Where is more decency?”

Terrible, because as the Lord says it’s worse in the handkerchief, See how the men are walking around today, all in knee-length shorts. What a vulgar fashion, but because they do not understand that it is not elegant to show the thighs in the city, it is not done in the city. Yes, you can afford to hop in the car for a country walk on Friday night or for a Friday morning walk, but only door to car. But when you come back on Sunday, you wear a skirt, long trousers and the much-cited city effect: Respect your city, it took your ancestors years to build it, some respect girls don’t be little because whoever walks around in shorts is a pick-me-up. Ernesto Galli della Loggia said so many years ago, I always agree with him! (Lina Sotis)

The way to the hell is paved with good intentions The Mini-Me phenomenon is proven proof of this. This attempt to dress like their daughters and sons to shorten the distance to their parents has created misunderstandings between generations, even serious ones, with grandmothers wearing Abercrombie t-shirts like those of their teenage nephews (after Milan closed has, it recovers, because the Milanese). I can tell he bought it again, like before, on Fifth Avenue). Or they see each other Moms in hot pants like their high school daughterBlue pencil error defined by Inès de la Fressange «a bit like using the bottle after 4 years».

The fashionistas mix the cards by wearing cropped frayed shorts with a blazer for an accent. One of the tricks of mothers returning to nanny is to buy the same pair of chipies (canvas shoes without laces…) as the child and, in extreme cases, bull’s-eye sandals. The men did not escape the disaster, on the beach in the same bathing suit as their two-year-old son, with ice cream cone, frog prince and flying saucer designs. The Milanese is not so naïve as to slip into capris, but often dares to wear Bermuda shorts with the hem swinging above the knee, which Felipe from Spain often does when on holiday in Mallorca. And for heaven’s sake, given the great heat and casual Friday, nobody should think about going to the office: during his student days, Prof. Ernesto Galli della Loggia invited one of my fellow students to hurry up and hide the fur on his leg with me long pants! And Lina Sotis, when I was still an intern at Corriere, met me at the newspaper in August with a sleeveless shirt reminded me: “Little one, you go to the corriere like you’re going to church, run and put on a sweater.” What can I say? I had excellent teachers. (Michela Proietti)

Rina Sawayama publicly called out 1975 frontman Matty Healy during her performance at Glastonbury on Saturday.

The 32-year-old artist slammed the 34-year-old singer for a podcast appearance in which he interjected in mockery of rapper Ice Spice and referenced racially motivated pornography.

While Japanese and British star Rina didn’t directly mention Matty’s name on stage, she did make clear reference to him when introducing her track STFU.

She said, “I wrote that because I was tired of these microaggressions.”

“This goes to a white man who watches Ghetto Gaggers and makes fun of Asians on a podcast.”

Sawayama is signed to Dirty Hit, a record label that also releases music from the 1975s.

In February, Matty spoke about masturbating to porn of “brutalized” women during an appearance on The Adam Friedland Show podcast.

Friedland and his co-host Nick Mullen brought up an incident in which Friedland and a woman walked into Healy masturbating to what they described as “hardcore pornography” 30 seconds after leaving a party at Healy’s house .

The trio said Matty, 34, watches Ghetto Gaggers, a porn site known for videos showing the humiliation and brutalization of mostly black women.

In the same podcast episode, Healy was accused of racism for commenting on rapper Ice Spice.

Healy claimed he tried to message the rapper on Instagram and then, along with Friedland and Mullen, appeared to have confused her origins, referring to them as Inuit and Chinese, mimicking and mocking both’s accents.

The podcast episode was later removed from both Spotify and Apple Music due to its objectionable content.

Healy apologized for comments about Ice Spice during a 1975 concert in New Zealand.

The musician told the audience, as reported by Rolling Stone, that he “makes a joke out of everything” and “can sometimes go too far in front of too many people”.

“Ice Spice, I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m upset that my joke was misconstrued. That’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m an a***er. I love you Ice Spice. “I’m so sorry,” he said.

Healy was forced to disable his Twitter account in 2020 after posting a poorly received tweet following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white Minneapolis police officer.

Healy tweeted at the time, “If you truly believe ALL LIVES MATTER matters you need to stop enabling the end of black people,” along with a link to his track, “Love It If We Made It.”

The connection angered many fans as they felt the singer was using the tragic death as a promotional tool.

Plastic surgeon Wilian Pires, a multimillionaire doctor who won a trip with influencer Virginia Fonseca during Neymar’s charity auction, has been indicted by the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) and is a defendant in a coup lawsuit against insurance companies.

Wilian Pires was one of the main targets of Operation Ghost Ship, launched on December 15, 2020 by the PCDF (Federal District Civil Police) Division for Repression of Robberies and Thefts (DRF). According to the investigation, the doctor faked the fire destroying a 50foot luxury boat in a bid to deal a blow to the ship’s insurer. The boat and insurance policy were in the surgeon’s name.

The doctor was eventually charged with embezzlement and criminal association.

Wilian Pires presents himself on social media as a specialist in highresolution liposuction and breast augmentation. He makes a point of flaunting his luxury routine, with many trips abroad, always in the company of beautiful women.

The trip with Virgínia Fonseca and the influencer’s motherinlaw, Poliana Rocha, sold for R$735,000. The surgeon ended the trip with his colleagues Thiago Paoliello and Guilherme Scheibel.

Taylor Swift managed to avoid Canada because of its stadiums – Le Devoir

Taylor Swift’s Canadian fans are still trying to figure out why their favorite singer is avoiding Canada on her upcoming world tour.

Swift has announced a nearly 40-date tour that will take her to Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Everywhere except Canada.

The singer and her team have not yet explained this decision. His record label, Universal Music Canada, declined to comment.

Some music observers say it’s difficult to pinpoint a single reason.

“We’re trying to get inside the head of the person who created the largest parasocial connections in the world,” said Liam Killeen, executive director of agency Coalition Music. We don’t know what she’s thinking. »

Here’s an overview of the reasons that may have led the singer to quit Canada:

the stages. When it comes to comparing stadium size, Canada is no match. Several of the US tour’s concerts have been or will be held in major stadiums such as the 73,000 capacity US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis or the new 69,000 capacity SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles . In Canada, the few large stadiums only have a capacity of around 55,000 people. For the singer, that means less income.

The cost of living in Canada. Due to the size of its stadiums and weak loonie, Canada began to become less attractive to certain foreign performers. A local agency argues that the unfavorable exchange rate could make it harder to turn a profit without significantly increasing ticket prices. Faced with inflation, some singers or groups say they don’t want to add to the financial burden on their admirers. Swift faced severe criticism in the United States because of the inflated ticket prices. Some admirers have even spent thousands of dollars on the resale market.

Why didn’t you come to the US? Some observers of the music scene also suggest that after booking more than 50 concert nights in the United States, the singer may have concluded that Canadians would have had ample opportunity to hear her from across the border.

Republic Live executive Tood Jenereaux says many Canadians are willing to travel abroad to see and hear their favorite musicians.

“They are well prepared, especially in the summer and during the holidays. I bet there will be several Canadians at the concerts Taylor Swift will be doing in Nashville. It has become tourism. You book a weekend, buy tickets and visit the city the rest of the time. »

Swift’s career isn’t over yet. We mustn’t forget the chance to see Taylor Swift cross the Canadian border anyway. Some don’t hesitate to add more concerts to a tour. Elton John, for example, started his farewell tour in the US and has returned to North America twice in recent years. The singer’s current tour aims to promote the ten albums she has recorded so far. She may visit some Canadian cities in the next few years.
