After learning about this situation, the same Real Sociedad footballer apologized through his social networks.

After what happened, the defender Miguel Araujo He arrived on Peruvian soil to enjoy his vacation and was questioned about this fact. The former Alianza Lima player said that in the Peru team they don’t know what happened and they won’t talk about it.

“The truth is we have not commented on any of it. We didn’t see it and we don’t have to comment on anything,” he said as he exited Jorge Chávez Airport.

The time for Titanic Five is running out The

Titanic Five died instantly when the ship suffered a “catastrophic implosion.”

The Titanic Five were killed instantly when the submersible suffered a “catastrophic implosion” just 1,600 feet off the wrecked ocean liner’s bow, the US Coast Guard said on Thursday.

The thrilling search for the men on the Titan, a 21-foot submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions, ended disastrously when a remote-controlled submarine belonging to a Canadian ship found wreckage on the seabed.

According to search and rescue workers, the men likely died on Sunday – before military planes using sonar buoys detected what they thought could be SOS booms in the water.

The victims are OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, French Navy veteran Paul-Henri (PH) Nargeolet, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman.

“The implosion would have produced a distinct, broadband noise that the sonar buoys would have picked up,” US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger said at a news conference today.

It would have been instant death for the men, some of whom had paid $250,000 each to see the famous shipwreck.

It’s a heavy blow to their families, experts say, and there’s little prospect of their remains being recovered.

“It’s an incredibly harsh environment down there.” “The debris indicates a catastrophic implosion of the ship. We’ll keep working and scanning the area down there — but I don’t have an answer on the prospects at this time,” Paul Hankin, a deep-sea expert involved in the study, said.

In a heartbreaking tribute, Richard Garriott, president of the Explorers Club, to which both Harding and Nargeolet belonged, said the men were drawn to research “in the name of meaningful science for the good of mankind.”

“Our hearts are broken. “I’m so sorry to share this tragic news,” Garriott announced. He said the club is “grateful to all of our members and the scientific and research community around the world who have mobilized personnel and resources to support search and rescue.”

Garriott described Harding as a “dear friend” to himself and the club. “He holds multiple world records and has continued to push dragons off the map, both personally and through his support of expeditions and charities,” he wrote.

“We are heartbroken for the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased.” “Their memories will be a blessing and continue to inspire us on behalf of science and research,” said Garriott.

Titanic director James Cameron went on air shortly after the Coast Guard announced the news and said he was “dismayed” by the similarities between the disaster and the ocean liner’s sinking in 1912.

“I am struck by the resemblance to the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned of the ice ahead of his ship and yet he crashed into the ice field at full speed on a moonless night and many people died as a result,” Cameron said to ABC News.

“I’ve been down there many times…I know the wreck site very well…I understand the technical issues involved in building this type of vehicle and all the safety protocols,” he added. “This is a mature art and many people in the community were concerned about the sub.”

“It’s absolutely critical that people really take a message home with them,” said the filmmaker.

Cameron’s pointed message comes after it was revealed that OceanGate boss Rush had been warned years earlier that his “experimental approach” could lead to disaster – and in another interview he spoke of “breaking the rules” to save the U – boat to build.

In addition to the ship’s landing frame and rear cover, which were the first pieces of debris to be discovered, the ROV submarine also found fragments of the pressure hull – the main body of the submersible.

“The debris is consistent with the catastrophic loss of the hyperbaric chamber.” Upon making this determination, we immediately notified the families.

“On behalf of the Coast Guard and all of Combined Command, I offer my deepest condolences to the families.”

“I hope this discovery brings some comfort at this difficult time,” Rear Admiral Mauger said.

In its own statement this afternoon, OceanGate said: “We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost.”

“These men were true explorers who shared a strong spirit of adventure and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans.”

“Our hearts go out to these five souls and each member of their families at this tragic time. We mourn the loss of life and the joy they brought to all who knew them.”

The company added, “This is an extremely sad time for our dedicated employees who are exhausted and deeply saddened by this loss.”

“The entire OceanGate family is deeply grateful to the countless men and women from numerous organizations in the international community who have contributed extensive resources and worked so hard on this mission.”

“We appreciate their dedication to finding these five explorers and their tireless work day and night to support our crew and their families.”

“This is a very sad time for the entire explorer community and for all family members of those who died at sea.”

“We respectfully ask that the privacy of these families be respected at this extremely painful time.”

Earlier, David Mearns, who was a friend of two of the men on board, said the “only saving grace” for the men was how quickly their deaths would have occurred.

The world had been praying for a “miracle” after rescuers estimated vital oxygen supplies would end at 7.08am EST (12.08pm UK time, 9.09pm Sydney) on Thursday.

Officials said the field was found by Odysseus 6k, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) deployed by Canadian ship Horizon Arctic, which can dive 20,000 feet underwater.

A glimmer of hope came yesterday when the Coast Guard confirmed P-3 aircraft had consistently picked up “popping” noises, but search teams were unable to locate the source of the noise or confirm that they were SOS signals acted that the world had hoped for.

The families of the five men on board the submarine have not yet publicly responded to news of the wreckage being found.

Experts have been warning for days of the possibility that Titan leaked and imploded under pressures 400 times those at sea level.

“They would be dead before they even knew anything had happened,” L. David Marquet, a retired Navy nuclear submarine commander, said earlier this week.

Earlier Thursday, before the debris was found, Rear Admiral John Mauger, who coordinated the operation from Boston, said during an appearance on NBC’s Today program, “People’s will to live must be considered.”

The submersible’s oxygen should theoretically have run out by 8 a.m. EST (1 p.m. BST) Thursday, according to the 96-hour limit listed in OceanGate’s vessel specifications.

The Titan submerged at 8:00 a.m. (1:00 p.m. BST) and lost communications at 9:45 (2:45 p.m.) but was not reported missing to the US Coast Guard until 5:40 p.m. (10:40 p.m.). The submarine was scheduled to return to Polar Prince at 3:00 p.m. EST (8:00 p.m. BST) on Sunday.

Since Sunday evening, there has been a desperate international effort to find it and rescue the men on board.

Kathleen Cosnett, a cousin of British businessman Hamish Harding, 58, who was on board the submarine, said the eight-hour delay in contacting authorities was “far too long”.

She told the Telegraph: “It’s very scary.” It took so long for them to go out to save her, it’s way too long. I would have thought three hours would be the absolute minimum.”

Titan lost communications on Sunday during a voyage to Titanic off the coast of Canada about 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The last “ping” from his target device was heard on Sunday afternoon – directly above the world’s most famous wreck.

A Canadian Navy ship carrying paramedics specializing in treating health issues related to deep sea diving arrived at the scene at HMCS Glace Bay this morning. They also brought with them a hyperbaric chamber that can be used to decompress divers after they return to the surface.

Above the wreck was a fleet of at least ten ships, two robotic submarines and several aircraft, scanning the Atlantic for signs of Titan while sonar continued to pick up a popping sound from below. A Royal Navy submarine and equipment from a British company were also dispatched to help with the search.

The oceanographer and water search expert Dr. David Gallo said earlier Thursday: “It’s going to be almost impossible. We need a miracle – but miracles do happen.”

But former Royal Navy officer Chris Parry said as midday approached: “I’m afraid time has run out – I don’t think there’s any prospect now of getting these people out alive.”

Rescuers insisted they would continue to search for the men after the 96-hour oxygen window had passed.

As recently as Wednesday afternoon, Capt. Jamie Frederick, Coast Guard response coordinator for the First Coast Guard District, said, “This is 100 percent a search and rescue mission.”

China’s president orders safety measures after explosion at barbecue restaurant kills 31 – The Associated Press

HONG KONG (AP) — China’s president on Thursday ordered a national security campaign after a massive cooking gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant in the northwest killed 31 and wounded seven others on the eve of a long bank holiday weekend.

The blast rocked the restaurant on a busy street in Yinchuan, capital of the traditionally Muslim Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, as people gathered ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

According to online news site The Paper, which quoted a member of the search and rescue team, many people were rendered unconscious by the blast and had to be carried out of the store. The victims included the elderly and high school students, sources said.

An hour before the blast, employees noticed the smell of cooking gas and realized a gas tank valve was broken, according to Xinhua. The explosion happened when an employee was replacing the valve.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for urgent medical care for the injured and a safety overhaul after the blast, Xinhua said. He called for efforts to quickly determine the cause of the accident and hold people legally accountable.

Xi also said all regions and related departments should deal with “all kinds of risks and hidden dangers” and launch campaigns to promote workplace safety.

At a press conference on Thursday, the Yinchuan deputy party chief apologized to everyone in the city, according to news site Huanqiu.com. Before the press conference began, the participants bowed their heads in silence.

Nine people were arrested by authorities, including the restaurant’s owner, shareholders and employees. Their assets were also frozen, according to Xinhua.

The blast happened at a branch of Fuyang Barbecue, a chain restaurant in Yinchuan known for its grilled skewers and stir-fries, The Paper said. The two-story restaurant could seat 20 people on the ground floor and offered private dining rooms on the second floor, where guests could also sing karaoke.

A video on social media platform Douyin showed rescuers on ladders trying to reach victims on the second floor. People who appeared to have minor injuries waited on the side of the road for help. Other videos showed at least six fire engines at the scene and some bystanders crying.

A staff member at the Emergency Department of Ningxia Medical University General Hospital confirmed that some victims were being treated there, but declined to provide any further information.

The newspaper quoted a woman named Chen, identified only by her last name, as saying she was about 50 meters (160 feet) from the restaurant when she heard the explosion. She described seeing two waiters emerge from the restaurant, one of whom immediately collapsed as thick smoke billowed and a strong smell of cooking gas filled the room.

The central government’s Department of Emergency Management said on social media that search and rescue operations at the restaurant were completed early Thursday morning and investigators were working to determine the cause of the blast.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a holiday dedicated to eating rice dumplings and racing boats propelled by teams of paddlers. While the majority of Yinchuan’s population is Han Chinese, a third are Hui or Chinese Muslims.

Workplace accidents of this type are a regular occurrence in China and are usually attributed to poor government oversight, corruption, cost-cutting measures by employers and a lack of safety training for workers.

An explosion at a Chinese petrochemical plant killed at least nine people and three others died in a helicopter crash during the country’s May Day holiday.

In February, a huge open-pit coal mine collapse in the northern region of Inner Mongolia killed 53 miners, prompting numerous arrests, and in November this year, four people were arrested over a fire at an industrial trading company in central China, killing 38 people.

The central government has pledged tighter security measures since a 2015 explosion at a chemical warehouse in the northern port city of Tianjin killed 173 people, mostly firefighters and police officers. In this case, several local officials were accused of accepting bribes to ignore security breaches.

South Korean company plans 72 million Georgia battery parts plant

South Korean company plans $72 million Georgia battery parts plant and hires 140 workers – Business Standard

A South Korean company will open a factory in the Atlanta suburbs to manufacture parts for electric batteries.

NVH Korea announced Thursday that it would invest $72 million in a plant in Locust Grove, south of Atlanta, and hire 140 workers. The plant will produce sensors, connectors and protection devices for electric vehicle batteries and will start operations in 2024.

Chairman and CEO Ja Kyum Koo said in a statement that this is NVH Korea’s first venture into manufacturing electric battery components.

Ulsan-based NVH Korea is the tenth supplier to settle in the region after Hyundai announced in 2022 a $5.5 billion electric vehicle assembly plant in Ellabell, Georgia, near Savannah and build batteries. The site could grow to 8,100 employees and is scheduled to start producing vehicles in 2025.

The suppliers have pledged to invest nearly $2.1 billion and hire nearly 4,900 workers.

It is NVH Korea’s second plant in Georgia. The subsidiary AFS America in Columbus manufactures floor mats and charging pods for the Hyundai plant in Montgomery, Alabama, Kia’s sister plant in West Point, Georgia, and for General Motors.

NVH Korea has 19 plants worldwide in South Korea, North America, China, India, Europe and Russia. It produces soundproofing parts and materials, floor mats, headliners, insulators, and parts for controlling engine and cooling system temperatures.

The State of Georgia will fund the training of NVH Korea workers. The company could be eligible for $1.2 million in state income tax credits, or $1,750 per job over five years, provided workers earn at least $31,300 a year. The company could qualify for other incentives, including property tax breaks from Locust Grove and Henry County.

‘I’m A Virgo’ TV Review: Originality Rules Riley’s Small Screen Debut

Im A Virgo TV Review Originality Rules Rileys Small Screen

“I am a virgin” is a triumph of imagination and ideology.

Created by Boots Riley, the series, which premieres Friday on Prime Video, is a boomerang throwback to Amazon’s early streaming years, when poignant oddballs like Transparent and Patriot Jeff Bezos dominated programming. It’s a revitalizing return to originality for both the platform and the franchise-heavy small screen itself.

Watch it with open eyes.

With dead-end basketball and branding deals, societal toxicity, fast food and a fast-paced love interest played by Oliva Washington in breakout fashion, the centerpiece of the poetic show is the 13-foot-tall Cootie, brilliantly portrayed by Jharrel Jerome . The When They See Us Emmy-winner brings the 19-year-old Oakland native’s uncertain steps into the outside world after years in obscurity, honing his already formidable skill to reveal a naturalism that rivals magical realism established around him.

It’s too late for this year’s Emmys, whether or not the ceremony takes place in September due to the ongoing Writers Guild strike. I’m a Virgo faces the challenge of not being remembered when the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards take place in 2024. Although the comedy categories will be profound, it would be a crime to ditch an actor as hugely successful as “I’m a Virgo” himself or the performances of Jerome, Washington and two-time Tony Award nominee Kara Young as the powerful Jones forget.

As one would expect from The Coup frontman Riley, it operates on multiple levels and there are many metaphors at work in “I’m a Virgo”. From a Sharp Point of View, this is a mixtape by Jonathan Swift, NK Jemisin, Samuel Becket, Kara Walker and Ralph Ellison. Nonetheless, in a very poignant way, the work is thoroughly soulful and skilful.

By any other name, Riley is a situationist who, for years, has created the game of long detournement for that moment and the seven-episode DIY series I’m a Virgo.

The Sorry to Bother You director, who penned a guest column for Deadline last month about his conflicting personal and professional feelings as a proud guild member over making his TV debut during the WGA industrial action, takes the occasion with a seriousness that embraces many more experienced films will close talent.

The goofy gag scenes that populate the supercharged coming-of-age narrative once Cootie breaks out of the gilded cage of his aunt and uncle (Carmen Ejogo and Mike Epps) play out across generational and economic boundaries. Like the best of Spike Lee’s canon, the obvious agenda-setting scenes prove fundamental long after their educational aura has faded.

Power outages, self-serving parenting, a rogue billionaire anti-hero named “Hero” (played by an adorable wig starring Walton Goggins), friendship, betrayal, comic book fandom, cults, and loving, awkward sex between Cootie and Washington’s Flora fill me up. I am a virgin. Amidst episodes written by Riley, Michael R. Jackson, Tze Chun, Whitney White and Marcus Gardley, the series is also packed with the legacy of Amiri Baraka’s Black Arts Repertory Theater, social unrest, local politics, an uncomfortable animated series within of the series, the crime business and critiques of capitalism that postulate what a collaboration between Buster Keaton, Angela Davis and Preston Sturges might have looked like in another world.

In this sense, “I’m a Virgo” puts American myth-making to the test.

The result, which never turns away from what it means to be young and black in the land of the free and home of the brave, is unflattering to the lies we tell ourselves and the truths we tell ourselves most turn away — whether they ban books and drag queen shows, attacks on trans children, or voting rights or not. Aside from a rather nerve-wracking ending that just begs for a second season, I’d just like to add that the overall combo reveals, among other things, the weak core of the assembly line crusaders, spin-offs, and revival content that has drawn the series’ attention since it’s been in Hollywood has had its lights on for far too long. That’s the difference between creativity and content by the committee.

To pick up a line from an early episode, what I’m a Virgo isn’t about is situations. This show is about what is going on and trying to see it in the moment that we are in. It’s about how in America, as Jones tells Hero towards the end of the season, “the newspaper is a placeholder for the violence.”

Sit down with both eyes open.

Spurs Pick Victor Wembanyama for No 1 NBA Draft 2023

Spurs Pick Victor Wembanyama for No. 1 NBA Draft 2023: How He Fits in San Antonio – The Athletic

The San Antonio Spurs selected French phenomenon Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft on Thursday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Widely picked first, 19-year-old Wembanyama is considered a generational talent.
  • The 7-foot-4 center has been a huge hit with French pro team Metropolitans 92 this season, averaging 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.
  • The Spurs won the rights to the number 1 pick in the NBA draft lottery in May. San Antonio last had the No. 1 spot in 1997 when the team selected future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

scouting report

The best draft candidate to enter the NBA since LeBron James. It’s that simple. Wembanyama is the epitome of a franchise changer. He led the French league in rebounds and blocks and finished second in points. It’s hard to overstate just how amazing Wembanyama’s long-term potential is on both sides of the arena. He will instantly become the tallest and longest player in the NBA, allowing him to change the geometry of the field defensively. He has great instincts and recovery skills in this regard. But he’s also a true center puncher, able to score with creativity on take-off and execute punches with ease from pull-ups or rim drives. A great finisher because of his length and touch, he’s already beginning to experiment with shots that could make him special, such as turnaround pull-ups, fake spin shimmies, and floater 3s. He’s a historic youngster who fits in well with past elite center youngsters like Bill Walton, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Ralph Sampson, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan and Anthony Davis. – Vecenia

How Wembanyama fits into Spurs

Wembanyama suits every single team. He’s the one. He’s the player you build around. San Antonio found some strong players in the second half of the lottery and in the back of the first round, but Spurs are yet to star. Wembanyama pushes everyone into more appropriate roles. Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson can be young, high-profile wingers who don’t get the best defensive duties. Wembanyama will be a great fit alongside Jeremy Sochan up front as Sochan is an all-around stopgap who was prolific as a young rookie. He will slowly become a goalscorer as he continues to rework his shot. Spurs made a wonderful transition from the Robinson era to the Duncan era and are now transitioning perfectly into the Wembanyama era. – Vecenia

backstory

Wembanyama has long been recognized as one of the brightest prospects in his age group. His father Felix was a 1.90 meter long jumper at a high level. His mother, Elodie, was 1.90 meters tall, played basketball and helped teach Victor the game. He has two siblings who both play basketball, grew up in a Paris suburb and joined the Nanterre 92 development team at a young age.

Wembanyama proved a top contender for NBA teams at the 2019 European Under-16 Championship, where he averaged nine points, ten rebounds and five blocks per game as a 15-year-old.

As the hype surrounding Wembanyama was building before the draft last year, the NBA hosted a showcase game for Wembanyama and potential No. 2 pick Scoot Henderson in September 2022. After two games between Metropolitan’s 92 and Henderson’s G League Ignite, Wembanyama left the team. The scouts walked the stage in awe and salivating, scoring 37 points in the first game and grabbing 36 points and 11 rebounds in the second game. – Vecenia

USA: A two year old toddler kills his pregnant mother with a gun

The young thirty-year-old was eight months pregnant and was accidentally shot in the back by her two-year-old son. More than 48,000 people were killed by guns in the United States in 2021.

The drama dates back to Friday June 16, but we only found out about it this Thursday through police and local media. In the small northwestern town of Norwalk, a two-year-old child accidentally shot and killed his eight-month-pregnant mother with a loaded, unarmored gun found in his parents’ room. Neither the young woman, who was shot in the back, nor her unborn child survived.

Laura Ilg, 31, called the emergency services herself around 1 p.m. When police arrived at the scene three minutes later, they broke down the door to the house and found the victim lying on the ground upstairs, still conscious but badly injured, his son crying by his side, David Smith said. , Norwalk Police Chief, to local media.

Laura Ilg told officers her son managed to break into the normally locked master bedroom while she was doing laundry and started playing with the gun. “She explained that she was 33 weeks pregnant and that her two-year-old child accidentally shot her in the back with a gun,” the police chief told Cleveland’s News 5.

Found several weapons

“Laura Ilg was transported to Fisher Titus Medical Center where an emergency C-section was performed,” police said. However, despite the swift intervention of emergency services, the newborn did not survive and was pronounced dead less than an hour after the caesarean section. The young woman succumbed to her injuries around 5:10 p.m. later that afternoon, the police chief said.

“If you don’t know, Laura and our unborn son Talisen passed away on Friday. There are no words to describe the pain and loss I feel. She was, is and always will be the love of my life,” her husband posted on Facebook Monday night.

On site, the police first found the murder weapon, a SIG Sauer P365, a handgun, a cartridge case and a charger. Another 9mm pistol was found on the bedside table, along with a 12-gauge shotgun and an airsoft rifle, both loaded, inside the house. The victim’s husband, who was absent during the tragedy, told police the guns belonged to him.

The police chief complained that none of the weapons had been properly seized and urged extreme caution. “Security locks, safes, there are millions of varieties and they are not that expensive. At least keep your guns unloaded,” commented David Smith. The police also said that the results of the investigation would be forwarded to the local prosecutor’s office and that no charges had been filed.

death certificate

This tragedy is the latest in an endless line in the United States, where more than 500 people are accidentally killed by guns each year. In March, a three-year-old girl accidentally killed her four-year-old sister with a gun near Houston, Texas, even though five adults, including her parents, were at the home.

Although the exact number of weapons in circulation in the country is not known, with a population of around 330 million it is undoubtedly well over 400 million. According to the latest global assessment by the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey (SAS), there were approximately 393 million firearms in circulation in the United States in 2018.

But since then the Covid has sent sales skyrocketing. As others plundered shelves of toilet paper, many Americans rushed to gunsmiths – classified as “essential businesses” – and more than 2.3 million guns were sold in the month of March 2020 alone. Almost 60 million additional guns were sold in the country between 2020 and 2022.

Logically, this increased requirement drives up the number of deaths, which also breaks records: 48,830 in 2021, the latest year available, an increase of 8% compared to 2020, a year already considered “historic” by health authorities is classified. About 54% of these deaths are suicides. Official data shows that firearms have become the leading cause of death among American children and teenagers in 2020, ahead of traffic accidents.

According to the Pew Research Center, about 40% of American households own guns, and a large proportion have children. According to a study by Johns Hopkins University, less than half of these households keep their guns safe.
