Visa Lottery 2024: How to Check if You’re a Winner

(CNN) — The US government will issue approximately 55,000 legal residency documents through this “Visa Lottery” mechanism.

If you registered within the set deadlines, you can see the results of the winners by entering this link: dvprogram.state.gov from May 6th.

What is the “Visa Lottery”?

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, or “Visa Lottery,” offers approximately 55,000 people annually the opportunity to obtain a permanent resident card, known as a green card, in the United States. The green card allows the holder to have permanent residency in the country and eventually be eligible to apply for US citizenship.

The immigrant visa lottery is primarily aimed at people residing outside the United States, although some winners may be legally in the country on other types of visas. Only countries that have had fewer than 50,000 immigrants in the last five years are eligible to participate.

Visas are distributed by region: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. You can see the full list of eligible countries here.

The State Department is responsible for administering the program at random. However, the individuals selected must meet certain safety and eligibility standards.

How can you check if you were a winner?

To find out if you were the winner of the visa lottery, officially called the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program, you need to enter the following information into the form on the website:

  • The 16-digit letter and number confirmation number (example: 20231O0DZWY3DOV9) that you provided at the end of your registration
  • name and surname
  • Year of birth

All data must match the data you entered when registering for the competition.

If you are the winner, you must log in at this link https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx and complete Form DS-260 to apply for an immigrant visa. You will then receive an e-mail with an appointment at the embassy in which the visa will be approved or rejected.

It is important to check the results of the immigrant visa lottery to find out if you have been selected. The State Department will not send you a letter or email to let you know if you have been selected. If you receive any type of notification, ignore it as it might be a scam.

The course of the coronation changed after harsh criticism of the oath of allegiance

After sharp criticism of an Endland Church call for a public pledge of allegiance to King Charles III the controversial passage in the service was slightly changed on short notice. The Archbishop of Canterbury, as the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, will now “invite” the congregation to show their support for the monarch. At first it was said that he would “summon” the people in Westminster Abbey and the millions on screens to loudly swear allegiance to the King.

Charles did not want the “Homage of the People”.

This innovation has been criticized as divisive and anachronistic. Charles has agreed to the move, British media reported on Saturday. Your friend and official biographer Jonathan Dimbleby British news agency PA said the king found the tribute, dubbed the “People’s Homage”, “disgusting”. The planned portion was intended to replace the tradition of other royals and nobles kneeling and paying homage to the King.

The Church of England said it hoped the significant change would result in a “huge outcry across the country and across the world in support of the King”. The people, wherever they were, were to say: “I swear true allegiance to Your Majesty and Your heirs and successors according to the law. God help me.” The anti-monarchy organization República criticized that the formula recognized Charles’s brother Prince Andrewwho is eighth in line to the British throne and is wildly unpopular for his involvement in an abuse scandal.

A transistor system? Are we at the beginning of the next industrial revolution? In any case, Swedish researchers have achieved the technical feat of using wood, a renewable and natural material, to regulate the flow of electricity without degradation. The beginnings of biodegradable electronics?

A very first wooden transistor capable of regulating an electric flow was developed in a laboratory in Sweden. More ecological than conventional transistors, it paves the way for other developments before they can claim any practical use. Researchers at Linköping University, associated with the Royal Polytechnic School of Stockholm (KTH), have succeeded in developing the world’s first-ever wooden transistor.

Remember that a transistor is a common silicon electronic component used to control or amplify voltage and electrical current. They are found in all electronic devices, sometimes on a microscopic scale. So the achievement here was to make the wood conduct electricity.

Slow, cumbersome, but effective

To achieve this technological feat, the researchers used balsa wood, a material whose structure is perfectly homogeneous. They extracted the lignin, favoring the presence of cellulose. They then filled the empty channels with a conductive plastic (PEDOT:PSS) to allow the block of wood itself to conduct electricity.

Ultimately, this first wooden transistor is relatively slow and, above all, quite bulky. But the main thing is that it works, that it is able to regulate a current flow without deteriorating. It can thus serve as a basis for even more spectacular developments in the future.

In any case, this type of wooden transistors is not lacking in advantages. In fact, compared to silicon, wood is a sustainable and renewable material, making this solution much more environmentally friendly. Then wood has a lower electrical conductivity, which means that it consumes less energy. This work was published in the scientific journal PNAS.

The coronation, the arrival of Charles and Camilla in a carriage in Westminster

King Charles III and Queen Camilla have left Buckingham Palace to officially open the day which is set to culminate in their formal coronation at Westminster Abbey in London.
The procession took the avenue of the Mall amid the salutes and shouts of two wings of the crowd. The road is flagged with British Union Jack banners, interspersed here and there with the flags of the other 14 Commonwealth countries which are still institutionally linked as realms to the Crown and whose sovereign therefore remains the head of state (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and other). The King and Queen are on board a more modern and comfortable ceremonial carriage – with hydraulic suspension and air conditioning – compared to the 18th-century golden state carriage that will take them back to the palace at the end of the ceremony. Both wear the royal cloak, Charles over a full military uniform, and salute the people. Alongside them, as is customary, are mounted military units of the Royal Guard in historical parade uniform. The sounds of the British anthem God Save the King sound in the background, and the song is sung to applause by many in attendance.

No more limiting references to the role of “Queen’s Consort”, starting today, Camilla will also officially become “Her Majesty the Queen”. And that is that. This is confirmed by the cover sheet of the Order of Service issued by Buckingham Palace ahead of the start of the ceremony at which she will be officially crowned alongside King Charles at Westminster Abbey. In fact, the document refers to the “Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.” For Camilla, in the first months after the couple’s accession to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at 8 Queen tout court, the appellation “Queen Consort” was associated with the figure of the late monarch for over 70 years. Traditionally, all female consorts of kings – throughout the history of the British monarchy and beyond – are also entitled to the title of queen.

Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla have arrived at Buckingham Palace, from where the procession will later depart for Wasminster Abbey for the coronation. The king was photographed in the car, still in a dark suit, white shirt and blue tie with white trim. The photos will be published on the BBC website.

Various ministers from Rishi Sunak’s government, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Labor opposition leader Keir Starmer arrived in Westminster to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III. The ministers who have arrived in a group are Defense Minister Ben Wallace, Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, Deputy Home Secretary Tom Tugendhat and Industry and Trade Kemi Badenoch. The BBC writes it.

Camilla ceases to be “queen” to be called “queen” at the coronation; understand G1

Who is Camilla, the British Queen Consort?

Camilla Parker Bowles will also be crowned at the coronation ceremony of her husband, King Charles III, at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday (6th). The monarch is no longer called “Queen Consort” and only “Queen”.

The former Duchess of Cornwall, who has been married to the monarch since 2005, was given the title of Queen Consort following the death of Elizabeth II last year.

The title of Queen Consort is given to the wife of the reigning King. The concept differs from the title of Queen in the case of Elizabeth II which is intended for those born into the royal family and in the line of succession to the throne.

A queen consort theoretically has the same social position and status as her spouse. However, historically it did not have the same political powers.

  • Everything you need to know about the coronation

Since April, however, the Briton has only been officially referred to as “Queen Camilla”, without “Consort”. However, the change is a matter of nomenclature only and does not affect Charles’ wife’s official title or duties.

The BBC interviewed a royal official who explained on condition of anonymity that it was early in the reign of Charles III. It made sense to use the title “Queen Consort” to distinguish Camilla from her predecessor and avoid confusion. However, by the time of the coronation, enough time had elapsed since Elizabeth II’s death that it would be appropriate simply to call the new monarch “Queen”.

approval of Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was already preparing for this transition. In a message to the nation in February 2022, the monarch said she wanted Camilla to be referred to as “Queen Consort” when Charles becomes king.

“It is my sincere wish that when the time comes, Camilla will be known as the ‘Queen Consort’ as she continues in her own faithful ministry,” Elizabeth II said on the eve of celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of her reign.

Camilla was thought to be Prince Charles’ mistress during his marriage to Princess Diana and was therefore unloved by the public. But years later she saw her approval ratings rise thanks to her continued efforts to create a positive image and also good relationships with some press vehicles. Still, she’s less popular than “darlings” of public opinion in the royal family, like William and Kate.
