WHO declares end of global COVID public health emergency – Portal

LONDON, May 5 (Portal) – The World Health Organization ended the global emergency status for COVID-19 on Friday, more than three years after its original declaration, and said countries should now deal with the virus, which along with others kills more than 6.9 million Infectious diseases killed people.

The global health agency’s Emergency Committee met on Thursday and recommended that the UN agency declare the end of the coronavirus crisis a “public health emergency of international concern” — the highest alert level — in effect since January 30, 2020.

“I therefore have high hopes of declaring COVID-19 over as a global health emergency,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, adding that the end of the emergency does not mean that COVID as a global health threat is over.

During a lengthy conference call to brief the press on the decision, some WHO members got emotional as they urged countries to reflect on lessons learned during the pandemic.

“We cannot forget these pyres. We cannot forget the graves that were dug. None of us up here will forget them,” said WHO’s technical lead for COVID-19, Maria Van Kerkhove.

The COVID death toll has slowed from a peak of more than 100,000 people a week in January 2021 to just over 3,500 in the week ending April 24, 2023, according to WHO data, reflecting widespread vaccination, the availability of better treatments and the Population reflects immunity to previous infections.

The end of the emergency could mean international cooperation or funding efforts also end, or a shift in focus, although many have already adjusted as the pandemic eased in different regions.

“The fight is not over yet. We still have weaknesses and those weaknesses that we still have in our system will be exposed by this virus or any other virus. And it needs to be fixed,” said WHO emergency director Michael Ryan.

The WHO does not declare the beginning or end of pandemics, although it began using the term for COVID in March 2020.

The ultrastructural morphology of the 2019 novel coronavirus is seen in an illustration released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States, January 29, 2020. Alissa Eckert, MS; Dan Higgins, MAM/CDC/Handout via Portal.

“In most cases, pandemics really do end when the next pandemic begins,” Ryan said.

Last year US President Joe Biden said the pandemic was over. Like a number of other countries, the world’s largest economy has started phasing out its national state of emergency for COVID, which officially ends May 11, meaning it will stop paying for vaccines and testing for many people, and shift responsibility onto the commercial ones market will shift.

The European Union also said in April last year that the emergency phase of the pandemic was over and that other regions had taken similar steps.

“SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM”

The WHO statement comes just four months after China ended its ongoing tight COVID restrictions and was hit by a large spike in infections.

The decision also suggests that WHO advisers believe a new, more dangerous variant of coronavirus is unlikely to emerge in the coming months, although the virus remains unpredictable.

“I will not hesitate to convene another emergency committee should COVID-19 threaten our world again,” said WHO chief Tedros.

Testing has dropped dramatically in many parts of the world and people have largely stopped wearing masks. Mask wearing has resumed in some countries during COVID outbreaks. The WHO released a plan this week advising countries on how to live with COVID in the long term.

COVID will continue to challenge healthcare systems worldwide in the long term, including long COVID, infectious disease experts say. “No one should take[that]to mean that COVID-19 is no longer a problem,” said Mark Woolhouse, an epidemiologist at the University of Edinburgh.

“It is still a significant public health concern and likely will remain so for the foreseeable future.”

Tesla Wants 15000 Model S Plaid Performance Package – Jalopnik

Tesla Wants $15,000 Model S Plaid Performance Package – Jalopnik

Regardless of what you might think of Tesla, you have to admit that the Model S Plaid is pretty wild: 1,020 hp, 1.9 second 0-60 mph time, a drag strip mode, record-breaking Nürburgring lap time. It’s supercar stuff from a six-figure EV. The biggest problem with the Plaid, however, is that it was lacking in the brake and tire departments, which has prevented the model from realizing its full potential. Apparently Tesla knows this and has put a remedy on the market in the form of a performance package for the Model S Plaid. But it will cost you something.

Racing technique | For the most powerful engines in racing, head to the NHRA

In case you missed it:

You can purchase a carbon ceramic brake kit with high performance brake pads, “track grade brake fluid”, 285/35R20 Goodyear Supercar 3R front tires and 305/30R20 Goodyear front tires either through the Tesla Store on the company’s website or through the company’s app Supercar 3R rear tires. And as always, the company makes some big claims about the package’s capabilities. Mainly that it unlocks a 200 mph top speed:

Engineered for the ultimate racetrack experience, the Model S Plaid Track Package delivers high-speed stability, maximum cornering power, and repeatable stopping power during high-performance driving while achieving a top speed of 200 mph.

The Track Package includes forged aluminum wheels, track-ready tires and brake fluid, new carbon silicon carbide rotors and one-piece forged calipers with high-performance pads.

Our rotors feature continuous fiber technology and are constructed in a unique 3D matrix to increase strength and manage heat more effectively. For added durability, a ceramic friction layer covers the entire rotor surface to reduce brake dust, corrosion and wear while improving pedal feel for everyday driving.

Interestingly, Tesla allows you to purchase the carbon-ceramic brakes as a standalone option if you’re not interested in the tires. Given Tesla’s history of making big claims that may or may not come to fruition, $15,000 to $20,000 is a big claim for brakes and tires that should have come right with the car. And oddly enough, Tesla doesn’t explain why there’s a $5,000 markup on the cost of the package. I think we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when Plaid owners buy the pack and put it to the test.

WWE Rumors About Bad Bunny vs Priest Drew McIntyres Contract

WWE Rumors About Bad Bunny vs. Priest, Drew McIntyre’s Contract and Ronda Rousey – Bleacher Report

Bleacher Report brings you the latest news from the WWE Universe.

WWE’s reported initial plan for Bad Bunny at Backlash

WWE reportedly planned to have Bad Bunny compete in a tag team match at Backlash in his native Puerto Rico before switching to a one-on-one match.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), the original plan called for Bad Bunny to face WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio.

Eventually, WWE officials were reportedly “comfortable with Bunny’s ability to have a good one-on-one match instead,” so Saturday’s match was changed to a San Juan street fight between Bad Bunny and Priest.

Based on the events at WrestleMania 39, all signs initially pointed to a tag team match.

During the father-son match between Rey and Dominik, Bad Bunny left the Spanish commentary table to prevent Dominik from using a chain. This allowed Rey to recover and win the match.

The next night on Raw, Dominik got into an altercation with Bad Bunny in the crowd, and Priest physically assaulted the music star.

A few weeks later, Bad Bunny came to Raw to stop Priest from attacking Rey. Bad Bunny brought Priest the fight with a kendo stick and then challenged him to a San Juan Street Fight at Backlash.

Bad Bunny has never been in a one-on-one match as he and Priest defeated The Miz and John Morrison in a tag team match at WrestleMania 37 in his debut match. Bunny competed in the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

While Backlash will be new territory for Bad Bunny, both The Judgment Day and the LWO character will be heavily involved, so there will be enough smoke and mirrors to ensure he’s part of a fun competition.

McIntyre is reportedly preparing for a possible WWE exit

Two-time WWE Champion Drew McIntyre could reportedly be leaving the company in the near future.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Upton), McIntyre “is working with the idea that there’s a good chance he’ll be done with WWE” once his contract expires.

Fightful Select (Miles Schneiderman of h/t WrestlingInc) reported last month that McIntyre’s WWE contract is up in nine months. Fightful added that McIntyre would likely wait until the end of his deal before potentially negotiating a new one.

Since beginning his second stint with WWE in 2017, the 37-year-old has been one of the company’s top stars.

His real breakthrough moment came when he won the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match and went on to defeat Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36.

The Scottish warrior has held the title twice but it has been over two years since he has held a championship of any kind, raising the question of whether McIntyre could be unhappy in his current place.

Roman Reigns has dominated the main event scene on SmackDown as the undisputed WWE Universal Champion, making it difficult for McIntyre or anyone else to rise to that level.

However, McIntyre was transferred to Raw as part of the WWE draft, and a new world title was recently introduced with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Perhaps putting McIntyre in that mix and making him a big cash offer would be enough to make him stay rather than testing the free hand and exploring other options like All Elite Wrestling.

Rousey Set for Celebrity Reality Contest

Ronda Rousey is on duty with WWE due to an injury, but she is said to be part of an outside project.

According to PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson, Fox announced Thursday that Rousey will be starring in Stars on Mars, an unscripted series hosted by legendary actor William Shatner.

Rousey and other celebrities will don a space suit and take part in a variety of solo and team missions.

Some of the other celebrities on the show will include legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong and former Seattle Seahawks teammates Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman.

Rousey made her last appearance in WWE programming at WrestleMania 39 last month when she and Shayna Baszler won a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Showcase.

While Rousey won the match for her team with a submission, she was physically doing little else due to an arm injury.

After WrestleMania, it was widely expected that Rousey and Baszler would compete for and win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, but those plans were put on hold.

Meanwhile, Rousey will be featured on Stars on Mars, which airs June 5 on Fox.

Fernando Tatis Jr Homer twice vs Dodgers MLBcom

Fernando Tatis Jr. Homer twice vs. Dodgers – MLB.com

SAN DIEGO — On their way to a historic NLDS riot last October, the Padres did without Fernando Tatis Jr. They stunned the baseball world nonetheless, dethroning the 111-win NL West Champion Dodgers in four games and turning this once one-sided rivalry squarely on its head.

But now that Tatis is back, the dynamic has so obviously shifted. The padres don’t stun anyone. They too are one of the sport’s juggernauts in 2023, viewed by many forecasters as favorites to win the division. This is what they looked like on Friday night.

Tatis’ return to the Padres-Dodgers rivalry was, of course, dramatic. (Damn, it’s his rivalry just like any other. Was Padres-Dodgers even a thing before Tatis arrived?) He scored twice against Clayton Kershaw in a 5-2 win in San Diego – a superb drive left to center , tying the game in the third and a laser in the left seats to put the Padres ahead in the fifth.

It was only the ninth time in Kershaw’s illustrious career that a single hitter has hit him deep twice in the same game. Tatis is the only player to have done this twice. In fact, the last player with a multihomer game before the likely Hall of Fame-bound Dodgers left-hander was… Tatis himself, almost 25 months ago.

“He’s one of the best of all time,” said Tatis. “When you face a guy like that, I’m sure you give 100 percent that day.”

Meanwhile, Tatis naturally missed the entire 2022 season, first through injury, then due to an 80-game PED suspension that expired just last month. Tatis hadn’t quite looked his way to the plate in his first two weeks, but the Padres nonetheless thrived with him back in their lineup. They went 8-4 on Friday since Tatis’ return and played their best baseball of the season.

But when Tatis returned in Arizona two weeks ago, on Friday night, he really was back. His fifth-inning homer left his bat at 110.8 mph and immediately landed in the seats. Tatis dropped his bat, then hopped a few times before turning to the dugout and letting out a yell. That was Tatis in his element.

“That boy, man,” said shortstop Xander Bogaerts. “He’s very special.”

Bogaerts made his own introduction to the rivalry on Friday with two walks and an RBI groundout. As a team, the Padres worked five walks against Kershaw and 11 overall — a franchise record in a game against the Dodgers.

Throw Bogaerts’ off-season arrival at Tatis’ return and the Padres have every reason to believe the rivalry has ended. A year ago, the Dodgers won all six regular-season series. They won the West by 22 games.

But the script flipped in October, and the Padres have since added two stars to the lineup that defeated the Dodgers eight months ago.

“We can win against anyone,” said Tatis.

Aided by Tatis’ two homers, Yu Darvish was excellent on Friday night, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and hitting six.

Darvish got into trouble in the first two innings. Mookie Betts walked and scored in the first before Darvish avoided further damage. In the second, after Miguel Vargas’ three, Ha-Seong Kim snapped David Peralta’s liner and fired into third for a double at the end of the inning.

From there, Darvish was dominant, pulling back the next 12 batters he faced while leaning heavily on his two-seamer.

“You didn’t have anywhere near his best stuff in the first inning,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “And then all of a sudden you look up and he’s in the seventh. … It was a complete turnaround.”

“They were super loud,” Tatis said. “You brought it today. It was just amazing – great vibes… and great baseball to play like that.”

These two teams will meet 12 more times during the regular season. Maybe they’ll play a few more games in October. If last season is any indication, the Padres should know the score won’t be settled in May. However, the Dodgers still have a one-game lead overall.

But the Padres won Round 1. In many ways it was more of the same, their fourth straight win over Los Angeles dating back to the NLDS. Except this time they had a certain boastful Superstar at the top of their lineup again.

A “liar”, a “sick man”: Video of Trump’s testimony at his civil trial for rape made public Blick

Video of testimony by Donald Trump, which was shown Thursday to juries at the civil trial in New York, where the former American president is being accused by an author of rape, was released on Friday and the media began airing it.

For 48 minutes, we see Donald Trump, wearing a blue tie and white shirt under a dark jacket, defending himself, sometimes vehemently, and answering questions from plaintiff’s attorney, former Elle magazine columnist E. John Carroll.

The now 79-year-old ex-journalist accused Donald Trump in a 2019 book of raping her in a fitting room in the lingerie department of New York luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman in the mid-1990s, after which she filed a complaint against him for defamation, then last November for rape in a civil lawsuit.

“This is the most ridiculous, disgusting story”

The Republican billionaire did not appear at the trial, which began last week, and in his absence, excerpts from video taken at the trial in October 2022 were broadcast during the trial.

“It’s the most ridiculous, disgusting story. It’s an invention out of nowhere,” he says of the allegations, calling E. Jean Carroll a “liar” and “sick.”

VIDEO. Donald Trump criminally indicted by courts: a first for a former American president

He reiterates that he doesn’t know the journalist and reiterates that she is “not (his) type”. But when the lawyer shows him a photograph of himself in front of E. Jean Carroll at a party years before they allegedly met in 1996, he mistakes the complainant for his ex-wife Marla. “It’s very vague,” he adds when his attorney corrects him by whispering, “It’s (E. Jean) Carroll.”

“If you’re a star, they let you do it”

The former president is also invited to respond to his comments in a now-famous video in 2005, in which we hear him brag about kissing and touching the women he likes at will. And to add: “If you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do everything. Catch her by the pussy”.

“It’s historically true for stars (…) if you look at the last million years, I think it’s true to a large extent, not always, but to a large extent, whether we regret it or not,” he explains.

“And do you consider yourself a star? ‘ asks E. Jean Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan. “I think you can say that, yes,” he replies.

Several journalists had asked the presiding judge on Thursday after the trial to release the video, but he ruled it was up to the parties to do so.

Crozzas monologue Artificial intelligence will soon walk 300 million people

Fratelli di Crozza, which airs Friday prime time on NOVE and streams on Discovery+, returns with a new monologue Moritz Crozza who stresses how politicians, busy creating videos on social networks to gather consensus on the subject of work, are not worried about a not-too-distant future in which artificial intelligence risks taking the place of human intelligence “Now I’ll show you the list of jobs at risk: cashiers, accountants, photographers, postmen, lawyers, journalists, all replaced by silicon. Is there a court case? So. The artificial intelligence reads all deeds and all judgments in an instant, from King Solomon to today, and writes the judgment in 5 seconds. For example, all Ruby processes: Ruby One, Ruby Bis, and Ruby Ter would have terminated when Ruby was still a minor. Not to mention the end of the staff. Come on, the staff too. They think IBM was born from engineers to build computers and made them so good that today computers kill engineers. 300 million workers gone, and by the way all here in advanced countries. On the contrary, there will be immigration, we will be the ones who will look for work in Burkina Faso. ‘Excuse me, can you let me hack something, please?'”.

This is King Carlos IIIs fortune and the British Royal

This is King Carlos III’s fortune. and the British Royal Family: origins, inheritance and taxes

(CNN) — When the British royal family organizes an event, it does not do so with discretion, but with pomp, pomp and power. And all this opulence often makes us think of money. where does happiness come from

Everything is part of a complicated system made up of roughly three sources.

The sovereign grant

Total Crown Estate Profits in 2019-2020: 345 million pounds

Proceeds from the Crown Estate earmarked for the 2021-2022 Sovereign Grant: 86.3 million pounds

The Sovereign Grant is the most public source of funding and often the most controversial.

This grant is part of the profits of the Crown Estate, a vast portfolio of stately homes across the UK that are let to individuals and businesses.

All equity investments amounted to more than 20 billion dollars or £16.5 billion in 2022.

Although called Crown Heritage, it is not the private property of the monarch or his family. You can’t sell them.

Since 1760 they have belonged to the sovereign during his accession to the throne but are managed by an independent organization.

All profits from the properties go to the British government, which then gives a percentage back to the monarch.

It is almost like pocket money or an expense account that must be used by the monarch and his representatives to carry out public functions. Expenses include travel, staff and household expenses.

In 2017, the allotment increased from 15% to 25% to cover the cost of the Buckingham Palace renovation, which will take 10 years.

And if the Crown Estate’s profits fall, the UK Treasury will top up the grant as there is a rule to keep the lump sum at the same level as last year.

This funding has been criticized by anti-monarchy groups like the Republic, who are calling for the subsidy to be removed. They claim that the country should be entitled to keep all benefits. The group has also called for the crown estate to be renamed “National Heritage”.

King Charles’ efforts to sway public opinion included diverting revenue from the Crown Estate’s wind power directly to the government so that it could be used for the “common good”.

This will be the coronation of King Charles III. to be from England: dates, duration, guests, concerts and more

the ducats

Duchy of Lancaster: 652.8 million pounds

Duchy of Cornwall: About £1 billion

The duchies separated them from sovereignty. They are privately owned by a duke or duchess. The two most important are the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. Both have valuable land and property that is leased.

The Duchy of Lancaster belongs to the monarch while the Duchy of Cornwall belongs to the monarch’s heir.

Unlike the Sovereign Grant, income from duchies is considered private but is not exempt from the rules.

Although the monarch and his heirs are free to spend this income as they see fit, any profits from the sale of assets in the duchies must be reinvested.

private inheritance

There are also other private assets that are usually inherited.

These include some of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s most beloved estates, such as Balmoral Castle and the Sandringham estate.

The family also owns art and jewelry collections, but some are national property and cannot be sold. In addition, they have their private investments and savings.

Steer

Although the monarch and the Prince of Wales paid taxes, they were largely voluntary.

Tax rules are complicated and contained in a government memorandum, and generally the sovereign does not have to pay.

For example, although the monarch is taxed on private sources of income such as investments, he is not taxed on income from the Duchy of Lancaster. This is optional.
