SmackDown Recap and Reactions May 5 2023 Bad Bunny joins

SmackDown Recap and Reactions (May 5, 2023): Bad Bunny joins the LWO

For the first time since WWE switched to the oversized Titantron stage for its television shows, Friday Night SmackDown had a different look. This week’s show took place at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico and had a much smaller entrance, giving it a unique look and feel befitting the venue.

Speaking of Puerto Rico, holy shit, that crowd was electrifying. When The LWO opened the show, they were showered with a reception worthy of kings and queens, and when The Judgment Day interrupted them during their opening promo, the reaction the other way was just as loud.

And as has become the norm, Dominik Mysterio can barely speak without being drowned out by the boo birds.

It is so good.

Here’s what was even better about the opening segment – I can’t even really tell you what was said. I don’t speak Spanish, it’s the main language Rey and Dom used as they walked back and forth. Dom said something about being a dead father, and I think Rey spent spanking his ass at WrestleMania 39.

The thing is, despite that barrier, it was still a great segment because the crowd got so excited and everyone else in the ring used their body language to get the point across. They ended up booking a mixed tag team match, with Dom & Rhea Ripley taking on Rey & Zelina Vega in the main event.

Said match later in the show was, predictably enough, great. The heat for Dom mixed with the love for Rey & Vega made the perfect mix for a main event match, TV or not. The finish came quickly with Rey holding his son in a roll-up, but I think that may have been necessary due to time constraints and to make sure they hit the go-home angle.

That angle, of course, is Damian Priest showing up to help Judgment Day shove poor Rey’s boots, and Bad Bunny finally making his promised appearance to make the parade, leading the charge to thunderous applause from the entire LWO led.

They built up Bunny with a kendo stick on Priest, but Damian bailed out when Dom gave him enough cover by taking a shot for him. The show ended with Bunny donning an LWO shirt and apparently becoming an honorary member of the group.

That was fantastic all around. Brilliantly played by all.

WWE had another opportunity to build on Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar at Backlash in Puerto Rico on SmackDown, and they did so in the form of a promo for the former.

The message was simple and effective – Brock Lesnar is many things and one of those things, perhaps the most important, is his status as a gatekeeper. It’s a mountain in itself, yes, but climbing it doesn’t mean Rhodes has achieved his goal.

No, the goal is still very much to finish the story and that story is to defeat Roman Reigns to win the WWE Universal Championship.

That being said, Cody had a great line where he said we still don’t know why Lesnar did what he did by attacking and attacking him, but maybe we’ll learn at Backlash, “if I beat it out of him”. That made a huge bang.

Well played.

I’m ready for the match now!

Within The Bloodline, things are visibly becoming more tense.

While trying to get excited about the six-man tag team match pitting Jimmy, Jey and Solo Sikoa against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn & Matt Riddle, Jimmy Uso asked Sikoa if he was ready. He got no answer. He didn’t seem too bothered by that, but Jey did.

Naturally.

Jey went straight in Solo’s face and Sikoa played it off with a mixture of apathy and a subtle threat. He plans to take care of his side of the bargain at Backlash, and all he knows is that the Usos better damn take care of their side. Is this coming from Solo himself or from Roman Reigns?

Intrigue!

Later, Riddle, Owens, and Zayn got a chance to cut a promo about the match backstage, and Riddle said all the usual before attempting to dub it to the tag team champions. Zayn said, well, there’s nothing more to say at all. “It’s time.”

It really is.

Time for the match and maybe even more?

all the rest

  • The show’s opening game featured The Viking Raiders in their final appearance on the blue stamp before being shipped off to Monday Night Raw where they faced off against The OC, who were re-drafted here. AJ Styles was in on the commentary and made it clear that he has his sights set on Roman Reigns — “of course I do” — along with the title. The match was fun, partly because of the teams work in the ring and partly because the crowd went crazy for each spot. It’s a great start for Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Michin and Styles on the blue side.
  • Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair got a promo to remind us that she was drafted to SmackDown and how lucky she is to be here. She also made sure to point out that if she retains her title this weekend, she will be the “longest-reigning women’s champion in modern times.” Damage CTRL paused to send basically the same call-up message here while also getting some licks ahead of IYO SKY fighting for the championship at Backlash. Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez showed up to save the segment. A bit general, but they nailed it.
  • The Street Profits defeated Imperium in a head-to-head tag team match that was great fun. I really don’t know what else to say about that. It was just a fun tag team match, with the babyfaces heeling clean, and everyone had great times. Except for the bad guys of course!
  • Shinsuke Nakamura and Karrion Kross had a pretty solid brawl with great physicality. Those who think Kross has fallen out of favor may feel that even more when he sees the loss here, but this seemed more about restoring some shine to Nakamura. For that purpose, it worked well enough.
  • We got our first look at Cameron Grimes introducing himself to Adam Pearce. Baron Corbin stopped to poke fun at himself for being the last choice. Grimes fired back and insulted him by saying it was better than not being picked at all. Corbin tried to make it look like he was on Brock Lesnar’s level because he’s a free agent. In the end, a match between Grimes and Corbin was booked for next week. The grand debut of the main roster is finally here!

It was a really fun show overall and it was a pleasure to see a wrestling show with such an audience.

It’s your turn!

1683353678 NBA Playoffs Devin Bookers 47 points keep Suns in streak

NBA Playoffs: Devin Booker’s 47 points keep Suns in streak vs Nuggets – Yahoo Sports

The Phoenix Suns may not have Chris Paul, but they do have a streak after Friday.

After 47 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals from Devin Booker, the Suns defeated the Nuggets in Game 3 121-114. The win meant the Suns avoided a 0-3 hole in a Western Conference semifinals that looked almost lost after Paul was out for at least a week with a groin injury in Game 2.

Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET (TNT) in Phoenix as the Nuggets lead 2-1.

Phoenix responded to the loss of their future Hall of Famer point guard by starting Cameron Payne as a backup, but the real move was to double down on Booker and Kevin Durant. Booker had a 20-of-25 night off the field while Durant had 39 points on 12-of-31 shooting with 9 rebounds and 8 assists.

The night equaled a playoff career high for Booker.

Playing much faster than usual and in front of a raucous Phoenix crowd, the Suns built a 15-point lead at halftime. The Nuggets responded with a dominant third quarter, erasing the lead in seven minutes and trailing by just 2 by the end of the frame.

The Suns bounced back in the fourth, ripping off a 9-0 run in the first three minutes and never looking back.

The Suns clinched the win despite another strong night from Nikola Jokić, who had a triple-double with 28 points, 17 rebounds and 17 assists. It was the first triple-double in NBA playoff history with at least 25 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists.

One of those assists was really ridiculous:

Jamal Murray also had 32 points, but on 13-of-29 shooting.

INFOGRAPHICS Coronation of Charles III Visualize the cost of Britains

INFOGRAPHICS. Coronation of Charles III: Visualize the cost of Britain’s royal events since Elizabeth II’s accession

The cost of the coronation of King Charles III. are estimated at 100 million pounds sterling (about 114 million euros).

69 years after his mother, King Charles III. on Saturday, May 6, in the King Edward’s Chair at Westminster Abbey in London, where the traditional coronation of the sovereigns of the United Kingdom is held. From one coronation to the next, Britons have witnessed numerous royal events – four royal weddings, six anniversaries and four funerals – each drawing millions of people onto the streets of the country.

The coronation of King Charles III. is a three-day gathering of street parties across the country, a BBC-produced concert at Windsor Castle and a symbolic ceremony at Westminster Abbey, followed by a grand public procession. But an event of this magnitude has its price: 50 to 100 million British pounds (or 57 to 114 million euros) according to the BBC*, 100 million for the London radio station LBC*. According to The Sun*, one of the UK’s best-selling tabloids, that number could go as high as £150m. By way of comparison, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 had cost £1.57 million, which, adjusted for inflation, equates to £56 million today (about €64 million).

Against the backdrop of the economic crisis, this pharaonic spending has drawn criticism from a segment of the English population struggling to make ends meet. According to a YouGov* poll, more than half of Britons believe the coronation of the king should not be funded by taxpayers.

However, these celebrations are frequent. Six anniversaries were celebrated during the reign of Elizabeth II: silver (25 years), ruby (40 years), gold (50 years), diamond (60 years), sapphire (65 years). The latest is the Platinum Jubilee, which marked 70 years of the Queen’s reign. In a statement dated March 3, 2021*, the government announced that £28 million (around €32 million) had been made available for this national holiday, which took place from June 2 to 5, 2022.

Some ceremonies are funded by the royal family, others by the taxpayer

But how can such high expenditure be explained? The vast majority of the budget is allocated to security, a concern that has become more important in recent years. According to official figures* (Excel document), more than eight million pounds (just over 9 million euros) were spent in this way by the Metropolitan Police during the 2022 anniversary.

To the cost of the ceremonies we must add the economic losses associated with the holidays decreed so that the populace could enjoy the celebrations. According to the Center for Economics and Business Research* consultancy, each additional public holiday costs £2.3 billion, or around €2.64 billion. A number to qualify as these events bring thousands of tourists to hotels, restaurants and shops, This allows more than a billion pounds (about 1.15 billion euros) to flow into the British economy.

Unlike princely weddings, which are funded directly by the royal family, the coronation is considered a state event: it is therefore the British government, and thus the taxpayer, who foots a large part of the Sovereign Grant bill (“government grant”). This tax is paid annually by the Treasury to the royal family to fund the monarch’s official functions. Its level varies each year as it depends on income from the crown estate, a set of lands and possessions owned by the royal family. In 2022, the Sovereign Grant has been set at around €97 million, or €1.50 for each person in the UK, according to Euronews.

The BBC assures* that the coronation of Charles III. is also financed from private means, i.e. the private income of the royal family, mainly from the Duchy of Lancaster.

Today Charles III. crowned: Royal family fans camp in London

Prince Harry and Prince Andrew will have no official role in the coronation, Buckingham Palace confirmed yesterday. Both are no longer active members of the royal family. After marrying American actress Meghan Markle, Harry distanced himself from the royal family and moved to the United States. Andrew, brother of King Charles III, has been disgraced over allegations of abuse.

Neither Harry nor Andrew will join the procession to Buckingham Palace after the coronation ceremony and will walk behind the golden coronation carriage with the royal couple. It is also considered unlikely that the two princes will appear on the balcony when the newly crowned royal couple appears to wave to the crowd and watch a Royal Air Force air show.

But even without an official role, Prince Harry will draw attention to himself. His place in Westminster Abbey should say a lot about his relationship with his father and perhaps also with his brother William, heir to the throne.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday stayed the scheduled execution of Oklahoma death row prisoner Richard Glossip, whose case was supported by the Republican attorney general, after an investigation uncovered new evidence into the Glossip’s 1997 murder was condemned commissioning.

The judges acted after an Oklahoma state panel voted April 26 against recommending a pardon for 60yearold Glossip, who was scheduled to be executed on May 18 for his role in the killing of motel owner Barry Van Treese.

The judges agreed to stay the execution while they consider whether to accept Glossip’s two pending appeals challenging his conviction on various grounds.

Don Knight, Glossip’s attorney, welcomed the court’s actions.

“We are very grateful to the US Supreme Court for doing the right thing to prevent the wrongful execution of Richard Glossip,” Knight said. “Nothing is more harrowing than the thought of having to execute a man who the state now admits never received a fair trial. Thankfully Mr Glossip is out of danger for now.”

In an unusual turn of events in a death penalty case, Glossip enlisted the support of Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond on April 6, who said the conclusions of an independent attorney he hired to investigate the case “raise doubts of conviction”.

“After careful and serious consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot support the murder conviction and death sentence of Richard Glossip,” Drummond said in a statement announcing he would be filing a motion that day , in which he asked an Oklahoma appeals court to vacate the conviction and return the case to federal court.

“That’s not to say I think he’s innocent. However, it is critical that the people of Oklahoma have absolute confidence that the death penalty will be carried out fairly and safely,” added Drummond.

An independent investigation conducted last year by law firm Reed Smith at the request of Oklahoma lawmakers also raised serious concerns about Glossip’s case and conviction.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on April 20 upheld Glossip’s murder conviction and dismissed Drummond’s lawsuit. The Oklahoma Board of Pardons and Paroles declined to recommend clemency on April 26 because the board was deadlocked 22.

Glossip’s conviction stemmed from the 1997 murder of Van Treese, the owner of a Best Budget Inn motel in Oklahoma City, who was beaten to death with a baseball bat by maintenance worker Justin Sneed. Sneed confessed to the murder and said Glossip, the motel manager, hired him for it.

The main goal is called Nicholas Porro. The big coup of the new management Rai, not established yet but already at work, that’s him. It has to be wrested from Mediaset, and Berlusconi’s company is indeed alarmed. Also because if Porro’s engagement as the top player face of an information program that could bring the Italian narrative to the right or at least outside the canon of the left unwelcome for governing parties fails, one could always focus on that Paul Del Debbio again from the Cologno Monzese team. Porro yes, if he agrees, but also – in the area of light entertainment – a seasoned man like Claudio Lippi: There are also rumors about a show for him, who will be 78 in June.

Rai appointments, the CDM opens up the risk: yes to the Sergio Rossi tandem. Fuortes towards San Carlo in Naples

While among the very confirmed – Bruno Vespa above all, Lucia Annunciationtoo most likely and for Bianca Berlinguer we shall see – Mara Venier is in an armored position, also because, in addition to her professional merits, she can boast an excellent relationship with the CEO, Roberto Sergio, director of the Laurentum Prize – President Gianni Letta in 2022 with this Trophy. But first the new leadership must move into Viale Mazzini. CEO Fuortes could leave early next week after Mattarella signed the decree passed by the CDM on Lissner’s resignation on Thursday (btw: Gov. De Luca and Mayor Manfredi, who have a say in the San Carlo theater, are sideways as the Pd wants that relay between the superintendent present there and Fuortes, who is to replace him). Around May 11, the Mef will name the new CEO of public television and immediately he – centrist and number one of Radio Rai – will choose Giampaolo Rossi as dg, who in turn is a deep connoisseur of the company. Both have a profile opposite to that of Purifiers, although opponents like to refer to them as such.

They come from their seat or from Rai or from the square in the schedules (to be done and will be presented in July), they will be considered according to the tam tam between Viale Mazzini, Saxa Rubra and especially the spaces of FdI and Lega, Monica Maggioni (Gian Marco Chiocci is already practically in his place and many of the other publications would like to go to what will increasingly be the “flagship”), which will have a flagship broadcast; Marco Damilano, who should be downsized even if he’s not that annoying; Fabio Fazio, whose contract has expired and whom they certainly won’t renew for the same money; Flavio Insinna, who will leave the legacy of the black melon Pino Insegno.

ASCENDING

And again, one who is leaving the new Rai without even having returned is Massimo Giletti, whom Salvini finds difficult to put on public television due to the complicated history that occupies him at La7. In short, the coming and going of faces, stars and conductors: plenty of room for Monica Setta (and Nunzia De Girolamo too); in Agorà those of FdI (in place of Monica Giandotti) want to put Manuela Moreno, now presenter of Tg2Post, and they always put Marco Lollobrigida (unrelated) for Domenica Sportiva; his friend Salvini intends to bring his biographer Roberto Poletti back to UnoMattina, perhaps together with Serena Autieri, who is already hosting the summer edition. And Monica Setta? The league wants to entrust her Rai1 on weekdays and on holidays in the afternoon. And Laura Tecce is certainly appreciated (at the moment she has the summer show Underdog). But the problem is that centre-right parties’ appetites and television preferences do not always coincide
