The US government reiterated that illegal migrants will be deported

The official confirmed this at a news conference in Brownsville, Texas, days after repealing Title 42, a public health policy that has been in use since 2020 to quickly deport asylum seekers.

“The border is not open. It was not open and will not be open after May 11th. And smugglers who exploit vulnerable migrants spread misinformation. They spread lies to lure vulnerable people to the southern border and those people are only being pushed back,” he was quoted as saying by Fox News.

The government has been intensifying its preparations for the end of the current regulation for days, including the deployment of 1,500 soldiers on the southern border and the establishment of immigration centers throughout Latin America.

He stressed that Title 8, a policy that allows “persons to be removed very quickly” and includes a re-entry ban and criminal prosecution, will be applied starting next week.

Under this rule, migrants would theoretically be barred from applying if they cross the border illegally and fail to apply for asylum in a country they have already traveled through.

With this norm, the consequences will be tougher, Mayorkas noted.

“To the people who are thinking of emigrating: don’t think that the smugglers (…) will cheat them and risk their lives and savings only to find a consequence on our southern border that they do not expect,” said he claims.

A Department of Homeland Security official also told the press today that deportation flights have increased in recent months and are continuing under Title 8.

Earlier news reports said the military’s deployment to the border is at the request of the Department of Homeland Security and the troops will remain there for 90 days.

Troy Miller, the top official at US Customs and Border Protection, recently told Congress that his agency expects up to 10,000 migrants to arrive daily after Title 42 ends, nearly doubling the daily average in March.

Another Austrian evacuated from Sudan

05/05/2023 23:17 (act. 05/05/2023 23:20)

Another Austrian was evacuated from Sudan as part of an EU action. This was confirmed by the APA’s Vienna Foreign Ministry on Friday night, upon request. Thus, the Austrian managed to leave the country “on a Spanish ship.” “A handful of Austrian citizens who are not willing to leave the country” are still registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as their place of residence in Sudan.

According to a spokesman for the European External Action Service (EEAS), a total of 162 EU nationals were taken to safety on the Spanish military ship. Italian news agency ANSA reported that they are citizens of Italy, France, Germany, Sweden and Austria. So far, a total of 2,500 EU and non-EU nationals have been evacuated from the country through joint European actions. As of late April, around 50 Austrians abroad were reportedly evacuated, about half of them children. The evacuation took place with Dutch and German aircraft.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese army says it has sent negotiators to Saudi Arabia to negotiate a ceasefire. The envoys would meet in Jeddah to “discuss the details of the ceasefire”, which has been extended several times but never maintained, the army said on Friday. The RSF militia commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, which fights the country’s regular army, initially declined to comment on the statement.

A Saudi diplomat said representatives from Britain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States would also attend talks in Jeddah on Saturday.

The UN envoy for Sudan, Volker Perthes, said days ago that both warring parties were ready to negotiate a ceasefire and pointed to Saudi Arabia as a possible location for talks.

In Sudan, army units under the command of military ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan have been fighting the RSF militia for more than two weeks. According to official figures, more than 500 people have been killed in the fighting. According to the UN, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee.

The warring parties have already agreed to several ceasefires, which have been repeatedly broken. On Friday, eyewitnesses again reported airstrikes and explosions in Khartoum, including near the airport.

St. Lawrence Belugas: There’s More Than We Thought! – Quebec Science

Biologists studying the Saint Lawrence beluga have refined population estimation techniques. Result: It was believed that there were only 900 individuals, they were more likely between 1500 and 2200. But their situation is still not rosy.

During a major three-day symposium held in Montreal on May 3, 4 and 5, reviewing the state of knowledge about the St. Lawrence beluga, the news spread and surprised several specialists. Véronique Lesage, whale biologist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, presented the results of several years of analysis of methods used to conduct beluga inventories.

“These numbers are estimates extrapolated from the animals we can see and count,” she explained to a hundred Quebec specialists interested in belugas. Based on current data, we can say that our projections underestimated the number of people by about half. You would not be 900, as has been said for more than a decade, but 1850, with an uncertainty of plus or minus 350.

This does not mean, as several researchers have pointed out, that the beluga population has increased; rather, our way of estimating their number has changed and become clearer.

It must be said that small white whales are difficult to identify. Coming to the surface to breathe from time to time, they mostly swim at a depth that makes them invisible in the river’s brown waters.

Beluga population estimates are based on many elements, including numerous aerial photographs, visual counts from low-altitude overflights, the percentage of young among the 10 to 20 carcasses that wash up on shore each year… From these parameters, officials extrapolate Pay. We have therefore just checked how the extrapolation has to be carried out… and corrected the inventories upwards.

Good news, but…

“This is good news,” says Arnaud Mosnier, a biologist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada who was involved in the research effort that led to these findings. Belugas still face several threats, but at least the number of individuals is further than previously thought from the threshold below which the species would begin a sharp decline. This leaves a little leeway for preservation. Not to mention that a larger population sees fewer risks from inbreeding and is more resilient if, for example, part of the group should succumb to a sudden illness. »

But the St. Lawrence canary is not off the hook: While in the 1980s and 1990s the incidence of cancer in the population was known to be highest in wildlife, a problem is now being solved by reducing the release of pollutants into the water the aluminum smelters of Saguenay, it is now the females who mysteriously die in childbirth, and the few-day-old babies are unusually numerous among the stranded carcasses.

The Montreal Symposium, organized 35 years after a first international forum on the future of the beluga held in Tadoussac in 1988, made experts realize that the scientific research is far from over – only the research questions have changed.

Woman finds family 51 years after kidnapping

According to the Fort Worth Police Department in the US state of Texas, a woman named Melissa Highsmith has been reunited with her biological family after being missing for 51 years.

The discovery of the relationship came after a DNA test proved Melissa was the baby of the Highsmith family, who disappeared in 1971 at the age of just 1 year and 10 months.

According to the family, all indications are that Melissa was kidnapped by a nanny while her parents were at work. The child had not been seen to this day, five decades later.

Melissa Highsmith was already reunited with her real family in late 2022 when the first DNA tests were conducted to prove consanguinity or not.

Now that the relationship is confirmed, the case of Melissa’s disappearance can finally be closed. “We hope this test result provides additional closure for the Highsmith family,” Fort Worth Police said in a statement.

It was years of torment

The compelling story of the Highsmith family only came to light after the case broke to NBC. However, Melissa’s biological parents have been looking for her for years.

According to Victoria Highsmith, Melissa’s sister, her mother has performed DNA tests on at least six women over the years, but they all went wrong, greatly discouraging the matriarch.

“My mother was always hopeful. After 51 years, she did not want to take another DNA test. She was tired, hurt and guilty for carrying it around all these years,” Victoria said.

“I am grateful that we got her to submit her DNA for this further test. After that, my dad took the test too, and luckily we were finally able to find Melissa,” he said.

Victoria also said that in addition to being very happy, her mother was relieved that she no longer had to bear the blame for Melissa’s disappearance.

“She carried that pain and guilt for 51 years and I watched her cry with joy for three days. [depois de encontrar Melissa]. I’ve never seen my mother so happy.”

Although Melissa disappeared many years ago, she is still being investigated by the Fort Worth Police Department. Authorities are asking anyone with more information about the case to come forward and file a report.

“Although the statute of limitations has passed 20 years after Melissa’s 18th birthday, the Fort Worth Police Department’s Major Case Unit continues to request the public’s assistance with additional information regarding Melissa’s abduction, which occurred more than 20 years ago,” authorities said in an explanation.

King CharlesCome on, don’t be surprised: at your ceremony coronation not all eyes will be on them. Between the return of Harrythe role of Andrewthe most elegant Kate Middleton and the king’s grandchildren ready to take the stage again, London The official accession to the throne of Elisabeth’s son is ready, but above all one Royal family which has never caught the attention of the whole world as it has in recent years. But it’s not exactly a golden age for the royal family. To say it is perhaps a simple but significant fact: the “street parties”, the picnics that Brits prepare very carefully for events like this, have collapsed compared to those organized during the platinum jubilee of the queen elizabeth. A year ago it was around 16,000, now it’s only 3,000.

Charles, William and Kate’s surprise at Buckingham Palace

Today Charles III He made a surprising move among the crowd Buckingham Palace along with the heir William and his wife Kate Middleton. The three royals shook hands numerous times while the audience snapped selfies, cheered and sang “God save the King.” A woman shouted “I love you Charlie” while a man made the king laugh by asking him if he was “nervous” about tomorrow. And Kate is one of the characters that the media, issues and fans around the world pay the most attention to. The Princess of Wales is loved in and around London for her simplicity, even when it comes to her outfits.

Kate Middleton, the dress ‘that will make her stand out from the crowd’

And it seems that at the crowning of King Charles She will stand out from the crowd with her dress. Bethan Holt, fashion director for the Daily Telegraph, told People: “It’s in a way very nice for her to be able to take part in this historic event in her own way, considering every time she’s had an official visit somewhere on the World or some other type of event, Queen Elizabeth II or Diana were already there, which always created an expectation and an inevitable confrontation». Kate indeed She will be the first Princess of Wales to attend a coronation since 1902. “I think Kate will wear something thoughtful that will somehow show her loyalty to King Charles – Holt said -. She’ll acknowledge that this is an important moment, but I still think we’ll see something that will make her stand out from the crowd.” Holt adds that a traditional ivory dress by Alexander McQueen would be the “obvious choice” but notes that the princess “might surprise us.”

The old arguments with Carlo

Those eyes on him needn’t annoy the king this time.” According to some royal family pundits, Carlo has more than once been jealous of the attention the media has given to Kate Middleton’s style. According to Katie Nicholl, author of The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, the royal was also resentful of his late ex-wife Princess Diana’s popularity, especially when it came to fashion: “The your star immediately eclipsed her husband’s and caused the first ruptures in their relationship. Hardworking, sensitive, and status-conscious, Carlo found it hard to take. He could not imagine that in the new media age, being a prince-born king and soon-to-be king was worth less than the stunning beauty and irresistible nature of his wife.” However, a small dispute with Kate dates back to 2012: ” That year, for example, there was a well-documented controversy over the palace’s priceless ivory collection, and Carlo was sometimes irritated that Kate’s clothes received more media attention than her charity work.

Tiago Leifert updates on his daughter’s health as she battles rare cancer TV

Tiago Leifert shared fresh updates on the health of his twoyearold daughter Lua. The child is battling bilateral retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer. The journalist was amazed by the positive reaction of the heiress to the treatment.

The former BBB presenter is one of the guests on this Saturday’s (6th) Altas Horas show on Globo. Leifert gave details of Lua’s grooming routine and celebrated the positive response to April’s treatment. “She’s had a good month, she’s still being treated. It was the first month that she didn’t need any medical intervention,” he revealed.

“Luna cancer is rare, it develops inside the eyes and is common in children,” he warned. “If you have a child at home with a different eye, with a white spot, run to the eye doctor.”

Lua’s diagnosis was made in October 2021. Leifert left Globo in a hurry to devote himself to treating his daughter. In January 2022, the journalist shared the case with the public. The tumor was discovered in grade E, the maximum stage of the disease.

“I took her off the crib to play and found that she wasn’t looking me in the eye but to the side. I went in front of the mirror and saw how her little eye made an erratic movement,” he recalled in an interview with Fantástico. “The ophthalmologist said it wasn’t good and we needed to see a specialist right away because it was a tumour,” added Daiana Garbin, the presenter’s wife.

Retinoblastoma is a type of cancer that occurs at the back of the eye and affects the cells of the retina. This form of the disease is more common in childhood and accounts for an average of 2.5 to 4% of all pediatric tumors.
