The merger with Activision will not harm competition, says Microsoft

(Brussels) On Tuesday in Brussels, Microsoft defended its plan to take over the American video games publisher Activision Blizzard for 69 billion dollars, dismissing fears of an anti-competitive act at a hearing with the Commission services.

Microsoft, owner of Xbox, launched a bid early last year to create the world’s third-largest video game company by revenue by buying the owner of hit games Candy Crush and Call Of Duty, but the project was met with competition concerns.

The last major hurdle came from UK regulators. In their interim results released earlier this month, they said the deal could significantly impact competition and consumer choice.

Microsoft chairman Brad Smith said in Brussels he hoped regulators, including the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, would see the deal as an “opportunity to bring this game to an additional 150 million people,” which would benefit consumers.

He rejected any demands for Microsoft to sell hit games like Call Of Duty in return, saying it was “neither feasible nor realistic”.

However, Mr Smith said he was “more optimistic about the chances of closing this deal tonight than he was 24 hours ago, not because of what happened in the courtroom but thanks to two chords.”

He was referring to deals with Nvidia that would give the cloud gaming service access to Xbox PC games for ten years, and one with rival Nintendo that would see Microsoft commit to making the popular Call of Duty game its competitor to bring console manufacturers.

“We’re bringing Call Of Duty to 150 million more people, 150 million devices that don’t have access to Call Of Duty,” he said.

Sony, Microsoft’s biggest competitor, is adamantly opposed to the deal, but Smith said on Tuesday that Microsoft was willing to agree to a solution to address Sony’s concerns.

“I’m ready to sign,” he said, assuring that he was willing to sit down for “dialogue” with Sony to reach an agreement.

Brad Smith arrived in Brussels with several Microsoft officials for a behind-closed-doors hearing at which he tried to persuade EU antitrust authorities to approve the deal with Activision.

The European Commission stressed that “the investigation is ongoing” and said it would not comment on the hearing.

In particular, the Commission, the guardian of competition in the EU, fears that Microsoft could “block” access to Activision’s console and PC video games and be tempted to pursue “strategies to foreclose competing distributors”.

She has until March 23, the end of a 90-day period for her in-depth investigation, to make a decision.

The first signs of dementia appear during sleep decades before

The first signs of dementia appear during sleep decades before the diagnosis, according to the study

Sleep disturbances may be linked to dementia with Lewy bodies Tirachardz/Freepik

A survey conducted by the Mayo Clinic (nonprofit organization) found a strong association between REM sleep behavior disorder and DCL (dementia with Lewy bodies), the third most common type of the disease.

Dementia with Lewy bodies is characterized by abnormal deposits of proteins (called Lewy bodies) in nerve cells. The main symptoms, according to the MSD manual, are memory loss, disorientation, and problems remembering, thinking, understanding, communicating, and controlling behavior.

REM (Rapid Eye Movement), on the other hand, is the nocturnal rest phase in which we dream the most and, for example, metabolize memories and emotions. Overall, this phase corresponds to about 20% of sleep.

However, the disorder interferes with this period and causes the person to have vivid nightmares, such as screaming, crying, hitting, or kicking. This directly disrupts sleep as it causes repeated episodes of awakening.

Researchers have shown that DCL symptoms and sleep movement problems can manifest years before the condition is actually diagnosed. They also found that men with REM sleep behavior disorder were five times more likely to develop DCL overall than other risk factors, such as hallucinations.

“The strongest predictor of whether a man is developing DCL is whether he fulfills his dreams during his sleep,” they wrote.

This relationship is weaker in women, but it’s still a cautionary tale.

“It can take three decades or more for men to be diagnosed with dementia with Lewy bodies,” they point out in the document.

It’s worth noting, however, that these results indicate a strong association between the conditions but are not determinative, meaning not everyone with REM sleep behavior disorder will have DCL.

Check out 6 tips to reduce your chances of getting sick during the final blocks of Carnival

On this fourth and final day of Mardi Gras, the one memory night owls don’t want to keep from the blocks is that of an illness. That’s why Omintaccredited infectologist Mirian Dal Ben has shared some tips to circumvent this complication on the final day of celebration

1. Be careful if you belong to a risk group

Although rain is common in the blocks, it is not directly related to the drop in immunity. However, there are groups who need to be careful during the celebrations.

“There are people who have low immunity because of an underlying condition like diabetes and some genetic changes in the amount of antibodies the person produces, for example being infected with the HIV virus. These underlying conditions make the person more susceptible to infection,” explains Mirian.

And he adds: “People who have vitamin or protein deficiencies, sometimes due to food selectivity or because they follow a very restrictive diet, as in the case of vegans, or who have undergone surgery such as bariatric surgery [podem ter] a lower, weaker immunity.”

Furthermore, an incomplete vaccination schedule for Covid19 and other diseases like the flu increases the likelihood of infection, not because of low immunity, but because “the immune system has not been trained enough to defend itself against this infection

2. Stay hydrated

Water is essential for maintaining the proper functioning of all organs. In addition to hydration, liquid carries nutrients, oxygen, and mineral salts. Not only that, but it also expels toxic substances through sweat and urine.

However, according to Mirian, “Sometimes when we’re super excited at the carnival, we forget to stay hydrated and end up just drinking alcohol.”

Therefore, do not forget to drink plenty of water, it is related to most of the functions of the metabolism

3. Don’t forget to eat well

Good nutrition, for example, helps boost mood and reduce stress and anxiety. Night owls shouldn’t skip any meals, especially during carnival, when energy expenditure is higher.

“Don’t run the risk of drinking bad water and also eat food from known places so you don’t get an intestinal infection eat where you believe the food is properly prepared according to hygiene criteria,” warns Mirian

4. Sleep well

“Are you going to skip the carnival at night? You need to make sure that when you finish the block at dawn, you get a few hours of restful sleep so your body can recover from the party Are you heading out again the next day in the evening? Try to relax during the day to leave the body more rested,” recommends the infectiologist.

There are a number of bodily functions that only take place during sleep, making sleep quality something essential for humans.

“[Uma das] Functions directly affected by lack of sleep is the immune response. We only produce antibodies when we sleep. So if we sleep little the next day, we are more susceptible to flu, nausea,” explains sleep specialist and psychologist Laura Castro, founding partner of Vigilantes do Sono, in an interview with R7 in December 2022

5. Take gel alcohol

Gel alcohol is an important part of hand sanitizing during the carnival because it fits in your purse and is easy to use.

“The person can take an alcohol gel with them whenever they go out to eat or go to the chemical toilet,” advises Mirian.

After all, hands are the main transmission routes for bacteria, for example. Contact with human fecal material in these toilets begins in this region.

“If you understand that this is the beacon of transmission, you can avoid a number of diseases,” said João Prats, infectiologist at BP Beneficência Portuguesa de São Paulo, in an interview with R7 in February

6. Find out if you have signs of weak immunity

Avoiding blockages when immunity is weak directly affects the prevention of infectious diseases, and there are some signs that can point to the condition.

“If the person realizes they have a lot of recurring infections, be it throat infections, ear infections, sinusitis, lung infections that cause coughing, skin infections, all they have one after the other, they need to turn on an alarm and see a doctor to sort it out.” to see if something is going on,” says Mirian

Kaia Gerber exuded classic Hollywood glamor in a cropped black mini dress with cut-outs across both hips beneath an oversized leather jacket with silver zips while gracing iD’s Spring 2023 issue.

Posing with both hands in her pockets and Coca-Cola cans in curlers in her hair, the 21-year-old supermodel gave the camera a smoldering look as she winked at the camera and smiled seductively.

In addition to the thigh-length gown, the runway queen, who made her runway debut for Raf Simon’s Calvin Klein Collection when she was just 16, slipped into a cropped white tee and a billowy, semi-sheer tulle skirt.

Lying in a meadow, the bombshell looked peaceful with her eyes closed as she showed off the tiny tattoos on her inner left arm, black underwear and taut waist.

Another image showed the performer cradling a white flower over her breasts, wet hair and minimal makeup.

Last month, the bombastic daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber opened up about how she felt “lonely” as a teenager early in her career without her family around, as modeling gigs took her around the world.

“I’m only 21 and I feel like I’ve lived my whole life,” the American Horror Story star told the fashion magazine.

Despite the challenges her demanding schedule brings, the actress said, “Even when I was really tired or I wanted to go home or I was feeling lonely, I was reminded of how lucky I was.”

Kaia has learned a lot while traveling to places like Paris and Milan for her job.

“Having the opportunity to travel taught me so much from a young age,” said Austin Butler’s girlfriend. “I got this really amazing education.”

She added: “I have this catalog of pictures that documented my growing up. You grow and you change: your body, what you like, your taste. Being surrounded by so many creative people shaped my taste. I’m very much an observer and I keep a lot.’

As for her supermodel mom’s wisdom, Kaia recalls being told to “be on time” and “take the time to learn people’s names.”

“Be nice to everyone. If you’re not grateful and happy to be there, there’s someone who would be,” the 5’7″ beauty said of the lessons her mum taught her.

But she found friends in the modeling industry to lean on, and she didn’t see the cheekiness or competitiveness she’d been warned about.

“I fell into the trap of believing that,” Kaia said of the catfights on the runway, which she believes don’t really exist.

“Especially at that time I was very shy,” noted the star, who booked huge jobs when he was 18.

“I kept to myself and was nervous. They come from high school girls who are so scary, so I assumed that was the culture. I’ve been fortunate to meet incredible people from all over the world who have taken me under their wing. I felt so comfortable having that family separated from my own family,” the cover girl noted.

Some of her model friends are Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber.

But she has been able to reconnect with her family during the Covid lockdown.

“Honestly, it came at a time when I really needed it and it was a really difficult time in the world, but I had really reached a point where I just felt like I couldn’t fall in love with it anymore [modeling]and I didn’t know you could ask for a break,” the star said.

“I had to stop and I realized how badly I needed one.

“When you’re told what to do every day, you don’t have time to sit and think. But I’d gone through so many changes over the years that I’d been modeling, and so many tremendous things have happened to me.

“I had four or five years of processing ahead of me,” the California native noted.

“I felt so lucky to be with my family for spending so much time away from them and I realized I had so much guilt about missing birthdays and things. I’ve been traveling since I was young, so I’ve been able to develop a grown-up relationship with my family.”

It was a healing time for her.

“I’ve developed so much deeper relationships in my life and also a connection with myself. When you’re forced to sit with yourself, you’re suddenly aware of all the things you haven’t been dealing with.

“There was no communication between me and myself, and I felt out of body at times. When I developed that, I thought, “This is something I don’t want to give up.”

“My personal life and mental health is not something I ever want to sacrifice for my job again. Right now I’m working from home, which is nice, and I’m not on the road all the time. I come home and I’m with my dog. I have friends and I cook dinner. I see my therapist and I see my family.”

Kaia is also pursuing a film career. She was in American Horror Stories and recently had a small role with Brad Pitt in Babylon. Next up is Bottoms, starring Ruby Cruz for director Emma Seligman.

25 years of love for Pascale Montreuil and Normand D’Amour – 7 days

Pascale Montreuil and Normand D’Amour were not spared from life’s vicissitudes, but they chose to weather the storms together. The couple, who met on stage, are celebrating 25 years of love and connection this year. And because life is so beautiful, the two actors return to the theater together in the hit comedy The Dinner Game, a project that promises them happier times on tour.

Pascale and Normand, the tour of Idiots’ Dinner keep both of you on your toes.

pascale: In force. We played Drummondville all last summer and it was a resounding success.

Norman: I rarely get called to a comedy show. I’m the straight man in the play, but it takes one for the comedy to work. It’s a brilliantly written show. The chemistry between Laurent Paquin and me is right. In 38 years of career I have never heard the public laugh so much…

25 years of love for Pascale Montreuil and Normand DAmour

And the cast is amazing!

NOT.: When René Simard comes on stage, people applaud. René is René. Everyone loves him! Bernard Fortin is also part of the project, as is Gabrielle Fontaine. André (Robitaille, the producer) had the brilliant idea to ask the girls to create a mini cabaret with songs about idiots. Pascale and Gabrielle therefore present a 15-minute excerpt that will delight the audience.

p.: Since we have foil rolls, we become more valuable. People see things differently than we do. With cabaret, I rediscovered the joy of singing that I had lost during the pandemic.

NOT.: We have a blues band, Pascale and I. It’s a theater show where we do covers. National Slide is a musical road trip that explains the history of the blues.

Obviously your complicity is always experienced in personal and professional mode.

NOT.: We love each other! I’m doing well. We’ve been together for 25 years. After 25 years we can speak of love. We’re not the same person as we were in the beginning. Everything is based on the ability to adapt, which is useful in both professional and personal life.

p.: We had the opportunity to meet and choose each other. We then decided to work on the relationship evolving despite life’s ups and downs.

NOT.: I would even say: ups, downs, left and right! (laughs)

p.: Over the years we have chosen each other again. We’re lucky we found each other and are working to make it work.

The couple changes, but so does the family. Is your daughter still at home?

p.: Our daughter, who just turned 21, has moved into an apartment. It’s in the order of things. My boyfriend was in the juice, I didn’t have much work, and my daughter left. I felt a great emptiness. We value each other very much through our role as parents, without really realizing it. I found it super difficult… Yoga, exercise and meditation helped me to refocus. We eventually get used to it. We have a great relationship, Marguerite and I, and I come to her house with a sandwich or a coffee all the time!

NOT.: I experienced things differently. I encouraged my son Lancelot (who is 31 years old) to go. Marguerite, she has decided to leave. The room she was in was one thing

by Lancelot, then by Pascale and me, but above all it was the room where I “gamaise” with my boys. Two weeks after Marguerite’s departure I returned to my room. My buddies were happy! (laughs) I set up a great playroom.

p.: Normand turned 60 in September. I organized a big surprise for him. The games room was the crowning glory.

NOT.: Of course, I miss my daughter, but I’m glad she’s fleeing. I’m just sad that our company is going through tough times financially. Everything is expensive. She was lucky to find an apartment at a reasonable price. She’s independent, so we feel like we’ve done our job as parents.

Twenty-one years is too early to leave the nest…

p.: She started working at the age of eight. Since then she has been doing television and dubbing. It gave him a solid foundation and allowed him to be independent faster than others. She wants to break free, and that’s okay. We went to Guadeloupe with our two children for the holidays.

If I remember correctly, you met in the theater.

NOT.: Yes, in the play The Witches of Salem.

Was it love at first sight between you?

N and P (in the choir): NO! (laughs)

NOT.: Pascale was 22, I was 35. I wore white pants, cowboy boots…

p.: And a headscarf! Nothing I like. It wasn’t my type. We were the only two singles in the room.

NOT.: We went out at night, we rode bikes, we had fun. Once we kissed on the dance floor while Joe Dassin’s Indian Summer was playing…

p.: I thought it would be over after the show, but we had so much fun together that it kept going. We still have fun together.

NOT.: After four months, she reminded her roommate that she had only been in the apartment four times in that time…

p.: One of her friends came back from a trip, there was talk of giving her my room. I spoke to Normand about it. We are ready. We figured the worst that could happen was that it didn’t work. We decided to give it a try. I ended up at his place, put my things in the small room… and it was never used! And 25 years later we are still in the same house.

NOT.: We also have a cabin that saves our lives. We lived there during the pandemic. It was a real relief. During this time, Pascale and I hosted four quizzes a week for the Randolph. We reached up to 20,000 people a night.

p.: I got recognized because of the tests on the street. We were in L’Isle-aux-Coudres, barely recognizable in our raincoats, and two French guys called out to us: “It’s Pascale and Normand of the Quizzes!” (laughs) We got a lot of testimonials. In the fall we went on a Randolph pub crawl to host quizzes. There are now seven in Quebec.

Is it still a great achievement that you are proud of?

NOT.: Yes. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year. People know board games and we are ambassadors in this area. Playing is important and it’s our job, Pascale and me.

So 25 years in love and 10 years in business: are you cultivating long-term?

p.: This is true. For us, this relationship is an anchor, a haven, our roots. Our family is important when we are young and after that we create our own anchorage.

NOT.: And our friends become our family. Pascale has very good friends, me too, and all these wonderful people get along well.

p.: We are very fortunate to have a deep intimacy, Normand and I. We can’t be more intimate than we are. When you can be yourself and real with someone, that’s really precious…

The Constitutional Court rejects 21 objections in the plenary session

The Constitutional Court this Tuesday dismissed a total of 21 lawsuits filed by the PP and Vox on the same day the court should have deliberated on the Euthanasia Law, according to the calendar made possible by the Guarantee Body itself last January. These initiatives, centered on trying to remove various judges, have prevented decisions from being taken within the timescales originally planned. However, the goal of the President of the Court, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, is that both the appeal against the norm and the educational reform of the Celáa Education Law will be decided during the month of March.

Neither of the two draft verdicts has yet been distributed to the judges. The euthanasia law will be considered in the 7 March plenary session, but it is understood that the verdict will not be finalized that day, which would eventually be endorsed in the following plenary session. from the 22nd of the same month. In this second plenary session, the Celáa law will be discussed.

The verdict, which will support the current abortion law – after rejecting the paper presented by Conservative Sector Judge Enrique Arnaldo – is now in the revision phase and is entrusted to the Vice President of the Court, Inmaculada Montalbán, and contained in court sources is estimated, which will be approved during the month of March.

Of the 21 appeals rejected in this plenary session, 9 were filed by the PP against Judge Juan Carlos Campo and 7 of the same origin against Judge Laura Díez. In Campo’s case, some would have been unnecessary because the judge himself did not intervene in 19 matters related to his previous position as Attorney General or to decisions made by Congress President Meritxell Batet, your current partner. The rejection of other challenges was justified by the fact that they were not made in time because they had been submitted after the deadline.

The law provides a 10-day period for filing a challenge once the reason for which it could be formalized is known. In this case, the court interpreted that the identity of the court attorneys had already been established on the day they took office on January 9th. So anyone who wanted to question their impartiality had until January 23 to do so, and the relevant briefs were submitted on January 31. Thus, the seven challenges presented against Laura Díez were dismissed for being submitted after the deadline. The judge herself has already refrained from participating in the procedures opened by the Catalan legislation, contrary to the 25% presence of Spanish as a lingua franca in Catalan schools.

The court also dismissed Vox’s four lawsuits against the court’s president, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, and judges Juan Carlos Campo, Laura Díez and María Luisa Segoviano. In this case, the idea prevailed that the Constitutional Court must always ensure the continuity of its work, which would be prevented if four judges resigned due to alleged impartiality. In its decision, the Ensuring Body reiterates its jurisprudential doctrine, according to which any challenge by four or more judges, if processed, would constitute an unacceptable disruption of the Court’s activity, so that its priority must be “to ensure the Court’s exercise of its own jurisdiction”.

What affects most is what happens closer. Subscribe so you don’t miss anything.

For the next plenary session, already in March, there are still 44 challenges to be resolved that Vox has brought against the four judges mentioned above and in relation to 11 appeals. They have, in principle, the same negative prognosis as the previous ones, since if successful, they would leave the court without a quorum. The Constitutional Court now works with 11 judges – the post of Alfredo Montoya, who resigned for health reasons, remains vacant – so in the event of the dismissal of four of its components, the plenary session would remain with seven members, if the minimum were to make decisions is eight, which is two-thirds of its natural members.

An 85-year-old woman has died after being brutally attacked by an alligator while walking her dog in Fort Pierce, Fla. – an isolated tragedy, experts say.

Local media reported that the 10-foot-long alligator, about ten feet, initially charged at the lady’s dog but gave chase after her when she tried to save her pup.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), with the organization involved in the case, alligator attacks, particularly those resulting in death, are rare.

On Monday, the FWC and the St. Lucia County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call at Spain’s Lakes Fairways retirement community for people ages 55 and older.

Neighbors told local media that the alligator rose from the water and pounced on the dog. She tried to pull the dog away from the reptile but exposed herself to the alligator in the process.

She succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter, but the dog survived. “The victim was recovered and a commissioned trapper captured the alligator,” FWC said in a statement.

After locating the large alligator in the senior living complex, six wildlife officers grabbed it and placed it in the back of a pickup truck.

Unusual deadly attacks in Florida

The FWC recommends asking about alligator sightings near fresh water, and if someone is attacked, “it’s best to fight back.”

According to FWC spokesmen, alligators are “opportunistic eaters” and will bite easy and accessible prey.

If the prey is not quickly subdued, often”[l’alligator] will let go and withdraw”.

These reptiles are found in all of the state’s 67 counties, but they “rarely attack humans,” according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website.

In fact, in Florida, only 26 out of 442 unprovoked bites resulted in human deaths.
