Barely returned from Spain, where they were attending a major road cycling training camp in anticipation of the World Championships, Quebec’s long-distance speed skaters achieved satisfactory results on the first day of Tomaszow Mazowiecki’s Coupe du World in Poland on Friday.

Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu, who competed in two events, finished fourth in the team pursuit and seventh in the 1,500 meters. For her part, Valérie Maltais also finished seventh in the 3000m;

The Canadian trio of Gélinas-Beaulieu, Connor Howe and Hayden Mayeur got off to a great start but paid the price at the end of the race. They lost first place in the provisional table to the Norwegians, the eventual winners and against whom they were paired. The Canadians, wearing streamlined time trial helmets for the first time in competition, extended their lead to about 1 second, a lead that lasted for two laps and then quickly faltered with four laps to go.

Two laps later, the Norwegians took over the race while the Canadians tried to save the furniture. They were 3.21 seconds behind the Norwegians, who were joined on the podium by the Americans (+0.05 seconds) and the Dutch (+1.26 seconds).

“We knew we were contenders for the gold medal and we went for it. After that it started to get harder and kick in the legs like a curse! launched Gélinas-Beaulieu, adding that the ice was not fast on Friday, which according to him “did not forgive”.

“Right now, at this World Championship, we’re not at our best on the ice and that’s going to get better. It didn’t work, but we know it could come back in the next few weeks,” he added confidently.

Earlier in the day, the Quebec skater surprised himself by finishing seventh in the 1500 meters. In Group B of this distance, David La Rue finished fifth.

“It’s my best performance over this distance in a long time and I’m satisfied! Thanks to more information about the ice, the stars will align in the coming weeks, continued Gélinas-Beaulieu. I’m in good shape and now it’s just a matter of finding benchmarks and racing feelings that we haven’t had since December,” concluded the one who will compete in the 1000 meters on Sunday.

In the women’s 3000m, Valérie Maltais was paired with Dutch and future bronze medalist Marijke Groenewoud, who pushed the pace with the shot.

“I wanted to be conservative in the beginning with the challenging ice and have good energy towards the end. It was a good strategy, except I could have given a little more in the beginning. It’s the first World Cup for a while, but I’m still satisfied.

The delay of the skater from La Baie meant that she was unable to fully utilize the suction effect behind her opponent when changing lanes.

“I could have kept up the speed with her. I missed a small opportunity to go faster. On the other hand, I’ve had experiences where I tried too hard to try my opponent and lost focus on what I needed to do. Maybe there’s a middle ground I should have done to save some energy. I can’t wait to do another 3,000 meters next week.”

The Olympic team pursuit champion will be back on the ice on Saturday to compete in the event.

Team Canada headliner Laurent Dubreuil will take to the track on Saturday to compete in the 500m, as will Christopher Fiola.

Béatrice Lamarche will compete in the 1,500m and Aimé Perreault will make his first World Cup start in Group B of the men’s 5,000m.

No detail has been left to chance on the jersey that Team Ukraine Select will wear at the Tournoi International de Hockey Pee-Wee de Québec starting Saturday. It was Quebecer Sean Bérubé who came up with the concept and he agreed to describe it to us.

Red patterns placed on the collar and sleeves are reminiscent of the “vyshyvanka”, a traditional Ukrainian embroidery shirt. “When Russia invaded Ukraine, they wanted to wipe out Ukrainian culture. It should show that they exist and that we are proud of them,” says Sean Bérubé. By the way, all Ukrainian coaches will wear the vyshyvanka for matches.

In the center of the jersey is a fist, which represents the sign that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy often used as a sign of resistance during his various speeches. “It’s a symbol of the challenge Ukrainians face,” says Sean Bérubé.

Two major events, the Carnaval de Quebec and the Tournoi International de Hockey Pee-Wee de Quebec, are making a major comeback to their regular forms at the same time.

Valentine’s Day, which occurs on Tuesday, adds another layer.

“It would have been good if we could have moved one of the three,” jokes co-owner of L’Atelier de Grande Allée restaurant, Jonathan Ollat. It’s a very big weekend ahead, we expect very good traffic with the parade just ahead.

“To the Birds”

For her part, owner of Hotels Champlain and Jardin Sainte-Anne, Auberge Place d’Armes and Brasserie française chez Jules, Michelle Doré says that if she didn’t have to face the challenges related to work, it would be “to the birds “.

“You almost feel alive again. The return of the Pee-Wee tournament is particularly good for us.”

While the influx of customers will bring its share of difficulties in his operations, he claims it’s “a nice problem.”

The same goes for Michel Côté, the owner of the Clarendon, who only has a handful of rooms available this weekend.

“The return of events is really striking, it has nothing to do with previous years. We will need five more periods like this to recoup our losses.

winter tourism

According to Erwan Franchet, manager of Hotel Le Priori, Destination Québec City’s promotional efforts to make the capital the ideal location for winter tourism are beginning to bear fruit.

“There’s an obvious buzz this winter. It looks like people have learned to play outside again with the pandemic, and Quebec is a great place to do that.

Jonathan Ollat has also observed a “welcome return” of tourist and business customers since autumn 2022.

“Even though people are generally going out less, we’re seeing them getting back into their old ways,” he concludes.

MAFS star Dean Wells has been dropped by management for ‘misleading’ drag queen posts

Former Married At First Sight star Dean Wells was dropped by his management after he posted a manipulated photo criticizing a drag queen Story Time event.

The 44-year-old reality star came under fire this week when he shared a photoshopped flyer on Instagram promoting a performance by Sydney drag queen Charisma Belle at Manly Library for children aged three and over.

The “misleading” version shared by Dean featured a manipulated image of Charisma spreading her legs in a vulgar manner with a taco crotch.

“The Drag Queen Story Time will feature stories and songs celebrating family, love and selfhood,” reads the flyer.

“Story Time is followed by a creative craft that participants can keep. Suitable for children over 3 years old.

When Dean shared it, he included a lengthy statement condemning the event.

“Our taxpayer dollars are being used to fund a cause called Drag Queen Story Time, where drag queens go into our libraries and schools and get paid to read to children as young as three, usually about gender identity and from an extremist left perspective,’ he wrote.

“I honestly don’t understand what the cultural benefit of this is and I think it sends confusing messages to children.”

Dean also said that “being a drag queen is inherently sexual” and that some “have serious mental disorders that need to be managed.”

The post sparked a backlash online, and Dean eventually removed it from his page.

Charisma Belle, the drag queen booked for the event, also responded to the excitement in a lengthy statement of her own.

“Another straight man telling people how to behave and dissecting a community they have very limited experience with,” Charisma wrote.

The performer said calling the art of drag “sexual” was “ridiculous” before slamming Dean for sharing a manipulated image.

“You intentionally searched my Instagram page to find the ‘sexiest’ picture you could find to mock a fake ad for the event. You intentionally misrepresented the situation and misled your followers,” Charisma wrote.

“Story Time isn’t just about the kids. It’s about the whole family. After reading to the children, I chat with the parents and answer any questions that may arise,” they explained.

“Story Time is for parents who want their children to grow up to be well-adjusted human beings. At a story time that I hosted, we had a boy who loved wearing sequins and glittery shoes. His father bought him for story time to show him that he is not alone. You see, just like you and me, Story Time has many benefits and facets.”

Charisma also claimed that the event could “save lives” and is therefore funded by taxpayers.

“You seem pretty worried about the taxpayer. I remind you that we all pay taxes, the parents of the participating children have paid their fair share and are obviously happy that this event exists,” said Charisma.

“The small amount we receive for events like this will not build a home or end hunger, but it could help create a safer environment for young LGBTIQA kids later in life. These small events could even save lives.”

After the backlash, Dean’s management agency, Stage Addiction, dumped him.

“As a queer-owned company, Stage Addiction has always celebrated and always will celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community,” the company said in a statement.

“The deeply hurtful comments Dean Wells made today are not in line with our values and as such we have parted ways.”

Britney Spears EXCL Star suffers from depression

Britney Spears EXCL: Star suffers from depression

Britney Spears was pictured driving alone near her Los Angeles home while claiming her family and friends were trying to stage an intervention for the troubled star over fears “she might die” because she worried about her behavior and her medication.

The 41-year-old singer was spotted driving alone for 30 minutes on Thursday before taking to her Instagram page to deny the claims, revealing that she is currently taking the drug Prozac for depression.

Spears posted a video on Friday of herself appearing excited while dancing at her house, telling fans, “I didn’t die folks. I am here. I’m alive. I’m doing very well and I’ve got my fur here, see, I’m feeling myself.’

However, sources exclusively tell that the mother-of-two is causing major concern in her inner circle as she battles her depression in private.

“Everyone’s worried about her because she’s very depressed,” a source close to the pop singer shared, adding that the former “bubbly” star has become an introvert.

The source adds that part of her depression was fueled by her two sons – Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline – refusing to see her.

EXCLUSIVE: “Everyone’s worried about her because she’s very depressed” – Britney Spears is seen on a 30-minute solo ride as she slams rumors of family surgery and reveals she’s on Prozac (pictured above)

“Britney isn’t doing well, that’s true,” shared a friend who has known the singer for five years.

“She’s not the same lively person she used to be. It’s heartbreaking to see her like this.”

The problem is said to be her aching relationship with her boys, who moved from their home in Thousand Oaks, California to their father Kevin in Calabasas, California a few years ago.

“The problem is she’s very sad that her sons won’t see her, she feels terrible about it, it’s a big hole in her heart,” the insider added. “She’s a mother of two boys and she never sees them, I think any mother would be heartbroken about that.”

Regarding drugs, the source hasn’t seen her. “She only takes her prescription medication,” was added.

“I haven’t seen her do drugs, I haven’t seen her drink, nothing, but everyone knows she’s bipolar and different, and she takes a lot of meds for that, so her mood can swing, but she’s not on drugs and she’s not in mortal danger. But she is very depressed, which is worrying.’

And as for family intervention, the source hasn’t seen any evidence of that.

“While everyone knows Britney is in a really bad condition, I have yet to see anyone schedule a procedure. And if one were set up, I very much doubt Britney would know about it. How should she know? Her team is not responsible for her, she is responsible for her,” the friend said.

The friend added that Spears manages her team — from maids and animal trainers to her assistants.

“She has a team that does everything for her, like paying the bills, doing her laundry, filling up her car. They are like servants. And she has a lot of people around her, her house is full all the time. You don’t see them in their Instagram videos but they’re there in the background,” it was shared.

“She’s in charge and if she doesn’t like someone, she fires them. No one can make them do anything,” it said.

Speaking of which, Spears also touched on her depression and even admitted she was taking Prozac in a social media post on Friday, which was accompanied by a video of her dancing with a fur wrap

Meanwhile, her husband Sam Asghari told Access this week that “an intervention” did not take place and that she was “in control” of her own life.

Sam also defended his wife when he told Access’ Mario Lopez: “There was no intervention. My wife is in full control of her life and will continue to make all decisions affecting her care regardless of the circumstances. Speculation about her health is misplaced and should be stopped immediately.’

In her own Friday post, Britney also slammed reports that she “almost died” and went into more detail about her life, adding that she doesn’t have a “manager” and “doctors” team.

Spears added that she is “an extremely boring person” and “frustrated” by a news outlet accusing her of needing intervention.

“It’s worse than a cruel joke because people actually believe this stuff and all my efforts to get better at my little routine of prayer and therapy don’t seem to count for anything when people can say things that are incredibly wrong,” she concluded, before adding she played disguises in “diamond dresses and funky fashions.”

The insider also said that despite putting her singing career on hold, Spears feels drained.

“Her days are wild, that’s true,” the sources add, saying she stays home a lot because she’s too famous to go out.

“She plays music and entertains herself, it’s not like she’s on CNN meeting with business planners, she’d rather dress up.

The pal then insisted that Spears “is still the sweet girl I always knew,” but she stays up late and sleeps late.

“I have no idea what she’s doing at midnight, and if someone tells you they’re lying because her team isn’t in her bedroom at midnight.”

The source added that Britney has always been “childlike,” which could be confused with “craziness.”

“People keep saying she’s going insane, but she’s always been like that, since I’ve known her she’s been extremely playful, like a kid,” the source added.

“What most people don’t know about Britney is that she’s still like a kid, like a 12-year-old girl, she’s not very grown up. She must have been traumatized at 12 because she’s stuck in that frame of maturity.
