Princess Leonor of Spain and her younger sister Sofia caused a stir among royal fans after crossing their arms and holding hands at the Princess of Asturias awards over the weekend.
The Spanish royal family visited Oviedo, Asturias over the weekend to celebrate the Princess of Asturias award, which is now in its 33rd year.
The prize, which shares its name with Leonor, is awarded to the town or village in Asturias “that has distinguished itself in a remarkable way in defending and preserving its natural environment, historical and cultural heritage”.
Leonor, 16, opted for a sparkling blue floral dress for the occasion, while her younger sister, 15, donned a navy blue sequin dress for the outing.
During the awards ceremony, the sisters were tactile with each other, holding hands and smiling at each other as they walked together.

Many royal fans loved the videos shared over the weekend, with one calling the couple “such supportive sisters”.
“They are the future of the Spanish monarchy and have no doubt that one day Leonor will make a good queen and Sofia will be able to forge her own path while being the monarch’s main supporter.”
Another wrote, “You seem to have such a special bond.”
A third added: “You are so sweet and definitely a new (much needed) face to the Spanish monarchy.”
One commented: “Love that they hold hands. Such great supportive sisters.’
Many social media users were stunned by the clips, suggesting that King Felipe and Queen Letizia “must be so proud”.
“Such beautiful girls. Your parents must be so proud,” wrote another.
The Princess of Asturias Awards are a series of annual prizes awarded in Spain by the Princess of Asturias Foundation – formerly the Prince of Asturias Foundation – to individuals, corporations or organizations from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs.
Each winner present at the ceremony receives a certificate, a sculpture created especially for the ceremony by the Spanish sculptor Joan Miró, and a pin with the Foundation’s emblem.
There is also a cash prize of 50,000 euros for each category, this amount will be shared if the category has more than one prize winner.

Queen Letizia opted for smart casual for the outing, in a striped black and white tee and black tailored trousers. She completed her look with black leather shoes.
The Queen of Spain, 50, wore her brunette locks loose for the occasion and kept her makeup natural as she greeted locals and spoke to children in traditional attire.
Her eldest daughter Princess Leonor looked just as stylish as her mother in a light pink jumper and cream cargo pants. She tied her blonde hair back in a ponytail.
Leonor has been studying at UWC Atlantic College in Wales since September 2021 but returned to Spain for half the semester.
Leonor, who has started her second year at UWC Atlantic College at St Donat’s Castle in Wales, will train with all three branches of the Spanish military from September 2023.

Felipe and Letizia’s daughter will follow in her father’s footsteps and train in the Army, Navy and Spanish Air Force before continuing the rest of her university studies.
Last month, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Leonor’s military training would culminate with a stint aboard the Juan Sebastián de Elcano, a Spanish Navy training ship.
It was also announced that the young princess would study law at university after completing her education in the military.
Her choice of university has not yet been announced, but her educational path is very similar to that of her father, King Felipe VI.
After graduating from Lakefield College in Canada, Felipe returned to Spain and attended the General Military Academy of Zaragozo and then studied at the Naval Military School in Marín.
He completed his training with a stay at the General Air Academy in San Javier.
He completed his military training in 1987 at the age of 18 with a stay on the ship Juan Sebastián Elcano and then studied law at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
