“Dancing with the stars”, Paola Perego seduces the jury: the look

As always, one of the most anticipated moments of Dancing with the Stars this week was the special guest’s descent onto the dance floor: Dancer for one night of this episode was Paola Perego, in an unprecedented guise that mesmerized everyone, the audience and even the tough jury of the show. The moderator also surprised herself and enchanted the dress made of transparencies and with a dizzying slit. Paola took all the treasure home to donate to Alberto Matano and Rossella. An otherwise complicated episode involving the withdrawal of one of the most popular competitors was avoided at the last minute.

The revelation of Paola Perego

Paola Perego received all fifty points of the Dancing with the Stars treasure with her sensual tango with Luca Favilla. After last week’s controversy, the moderator got all 10 from the judges who they gasped at his performance.

“I’m very excited and hit the 154 like in rehearsal,” she began, confident that she would not be able to perform. Yet even in her flaws, she appeared sensual and always managed to bounce back, as pointed out even by Selvaggia Lucarelli, who has given her numerous credits.

“I’ve been on TV for forty years, the emotion is always there, but I wasn’t thinking on those levels. I’m shaking like the first day,” Paola continued to repeat in disbelief while receiving the compliments due.

“I’m proud of you and you’re super sensual,” said her friend Carolyn Smith, while Alberto Matano defined her a dancer for an extraordinary nightthe best so far.

“And to think that my husband never took me to the dance,” she then joked, speaking of impresario Lucio Presta, who was urged by Milly Carlucci to change her mind after performing today’s Perego.

Perego’s sensual look on “Dancing with the Stars”

But why was Paola Perego such a revelation? Not just because of the unexpected ballerina skills, but mostly because of the looks: For the first time, the serious presenter wore a low-cut dress on the chest and with a dizzying slit. The wonderful leader was full of transparenciesWith black lace trimmings performed perfectly for the dance.

“But was I really sensual?” the presenter asked in disbelief, showing a new side of herself. An evening of discovery for the beautiful Paola, who sooner or later might think of taking part as a competitor in every respect.

The Luisella Costamagna case: does it stay or does it disappear?

As with any edition, there is no shortage of injuries and while Gabriel Garko seems ready not to give up, Luisella Costamagna came out on the track tonight with a very clear performance: not dance and withdraw from the competition. The journalist, who was forced to wear braces due to an injury, did not want to continue competing.

But the jury and audience urged her to dance with her foot bandaged and await the evolution of her condition to make a final decision. Simone Di Pasquale in particular appealed for the couple to stay in the race.

And that’s how it was Luisella performed improvising a choreography unfinished with his teacher and receives an ovation from the audience.

“Do I have to prove something to anyone here? I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I stand on the side of the people I have an affinity with because I feel better, because I identify with those people more there, but that’s also an individual game. In fact we created a protection group, we want that group to go all the way. That’s all,” she said.

Food banks are empty

Food banks are empty

Stock levels continue to dwindle at Quebec’s food banks, which are forced to make expensive purchases rather than rely on donations. The problem is that the boxes are also empty.

• Also read: Inflation and debt: Credit card applications explode

• Also read: Young people are more worried about their finances

• Also read: Explosion of requests for food aid

“We don’t deliver. It’s shocking to see the demand,” says Martin Munger, general manager of Food Banks of Quebec (BAQ).

With food inflation at more than 10% and gas and rent prices soaring, groceries are the first spending item people cut budgets on.

No one is better placed to speak up than those who run our many panels.

“62% of organizations say they have run out of food, leading to smaller baskets,” says the CEO of BAQ, a network of 1,200 organizations that released its 2022 Hunger Report this week.

The number of food aid applications increased by 375,000 to 2.2 million in 12 months. There are now 671,000 Quebecers receiving food aid each month, an increase of 9% in one year and 33% in 3 years.

Older people who only live on their pension are more present than ever (+ 25% in one year). The same applies to employees (+ 37%).

“Since the beginning of the pandemic we have had to buy groceries. We didn’t buy anything beforehand,” explains Martin Munger.

Donations are dwindling

And funds are scarce. Food banks “cannot supply on their own” and would have to “knock on the government’s door”.

This is what the Aliment-Terre organization is experiencing in Paspébiac, in Baie-des-Chaleurs, in Gaspésie.

“We had a 10% increase in demand in one year and a fairly drastic drop in food recovered from supermarkets,” explains coordinator Sylvain Badran.

Aliment-Terre serves a pool of approximately 12,000 people and offers 400 repairs per year.

The organization has seen food donations drop by more than half. The coordinator does wonders with his budget, but he can’t go on like this forever.

Jean Gagnon is in the same situation at Laval. The director of the Laval Harvest and Volunteer Center oversees a network of 75 organizations in Quebec’s third most populous city, helping 35,000 people a month.

“Our 2022 budget is already over for purchases and the difficult times that come after the holidays aren’t even over yet,” he says.

The estimated value of the groceries offered by Moisson Laval is $23 million, or $400,000 per week.

“Without donations we wouldn’t have this money, but donations are dwindling,” he adds.

He says he’s worried as he’s seen waves at Moisson Laval in 14 years but never one that lasts as long as the current one.

Flamengo from Brazil win the Copa Libertadores for the third time in their history

Flamengo players celebrate the Copa Libertadores title.Flamengo players celebrate Copa Libertadores title LUIS ACOSTA (AFP)

Flamengo won and Conmebol lost. The popular Rio de Janeiro team, which polls say has the most fans in their own country – 42 million out of a total of 214 million Brazilians – beat Atlético Paranaense 1-0 in the men’s Copa Libertadores final this Saturday in Guayaquil, Ecuador became Champion of America for the third time in its history.

The Fla, a star-studded team that have reached three of the last four finals – champions in 2019 and runners-up in 2021 – confirmed their preference, replacing compatriot Palmeiras, who remains a two-time champion to date. The paradox is that the inauguration of the huge Rio de Janeiro team took place in a stadium, that of Barcelona in Ecuador, with many empty seats in the stands, a new blow to Conmebol’s controversial decision to stage the final in a single stadium. More than 6,200 kilometers separate Rio de Janeiro from Guayaquil in a poorly air-connected subcontinent that is suffering from economic difficulties.

Gabriel Barbosa, better known as Gabigol, scored the only goal of the game after a superb display from Everton Ribeiro in the 49th minute of the first half as the Parananese played with ten players after Pedro Henrique had been sent off seven minutes earlier. The 26-year-old forward had also scored in the finals against Argentina’s River Plate in 2019 and Palmeiras in 2021, becoming one of the few three players to have scored in at least three Libertadores definitions: he met Uruguay’s Pedro Rocha (1965, 1966 and 1974) and was behind Ecuadorian Alberto Spencer (4, 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1966), both of Uruguayan Peñarol glory.

If a new Brazilian final, the second in a row, confirmed the hegemony of clubs from that country on the continent (the last presence of another country was in 2019, that of River), Flamengo consolidated itself as an almost unbeatable team in America : Of its last In 30 games in Libertadores he has lost only one, last year’s final against Palmeiras. Amidst his comfortable journey in 2022, he won 6-1 on aggregate in the semifinals against Vélez of Argentina and scored seven goals against Tolima, one of the best defending teams in Colombia.

Even in a lackluster game, with the usual excitement of the finals, Flamengo defeated Paranaense – a team with less history, once winners of the Brazilian league but recently two-time champions of the South Americans, in 2018 and 2021 – with the sovereign authority of a superior football and business squad for the South American context. Flamengo looks like a Champions League team: they have the most players who have played in Europe and who are still at a good level, far from retirement.

That list between starters and substitutes includes David Luiz (35, ex-Chelsea and PSG), Filipe Luis (37, ex-Atlético de Madrid), Pedro (25, ex-Fiorentina), Diego (37, ex-Juventus) and Arturo, among others Vidal (35, former Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich). Just amidst so much Brazilian presence in the final, Ecuadorian fans pointed at the Chilean midfielder and shouted, “If you don’t jump, you don’t go to the World Cup”, a remnant of the controversy surrounding the Chilean team’s claim to the detriment of Ecuador for defender Byron’s nationality Castillo.

Half-empty grandstands

The game was played at the magnificent Monumental stadium owned by the Barcelona club in Guayaquil, which can seat 59,000 spectators but with semi-empty stands. As the Ecuadorian Sports Minister Sebastián Palacios announced on Friday, only 30,000 tickets had been sold 24 hours before the game. That amount also included seats given away by the South American Football Association in its desperate attempt to prevent TV cameras from projecting the stadium’s empty cement: Ecuadorians who bought a seat were given a second attention – a true 2-for-1 promotion – and the members of Barcelona, the most popular club in the country, were favored with a 65% discount on the purchase of tickets.

In an attempt to copy the European model, that of the Champions League and Europa League, in 2019 Conmebol began using a single venue for the definitions of the Libertadores and the Sudamericana. The experiment so far is an impressive commercial and television deal for Conmebol – which organizes Saturday night’s games in Europe – but a definite failure for the interest and accessibility of South American viewers.

Last September, nearly 20,000 spectators packed the stands of the 56,000-seat Kempes Stadium in Córdoba, Argentina, to witness the South American final between São Paulo of Brazil and Independiente del Valle of Ecuador. In the definition of the Libertadores this Saturday in Ecuador, not even the presence of Flamengo, described as the team with the “most real” fans in the world, prevented the lack of demand again.

Although it is possible that this Sunday’s presidential election in Brazil has also threatened the travel of some Flamengo and Paranaense fans, the main reasons for the renewed spectator failure are explained more in South American geography and economy. A Paranaense fan, Eder Warpechoski, traveled eight days overland to the 5,900 kilometers that separate the city where his team plays, Curitiba (southeast of Brazil), from Guayaquil (northwest of South America).

Due to the region’s characteristic lack of air connections, fans who traveled by plane from Brazil to Ecuador explained that it would have been cheaper for them to pay a ticket to European capitals than to Guayaquil. According to Ecuadorian media reports such as the Primicias portal, half of the scheduled flights from Rio de Janeiro or Curitiba have been cancelled. Out of an estimated 400 private or charter planes, only 200 landed. Of the 30,000 Brazilians expected at the mouth of the Guayas River in the Pacific Ocean, an estimated 12,000 eventually arrived. The local economy also attacked Conmebol’s claims: tickets ranged from $142 to $245, while the base salary for an Ecuadorian is $425.

Flamengo, who became American champions for the first time under Zico’s influence in 1981, joined teams like Real Madrid classified for the Club World Cup, although the date and place of the tournament are not yet known
