Record suffers hacking attack and disrupts live programs

The staff at Record TV are going through a tense moment this Saturday morning (October 8th). The broadcaster suffered a hacking attack that forced it to stop broadcasting live. The Fala Brasil program was on the air when the system was hacked around 9am. The weekend edition of the newsletter would last until 12:00.

Sources from the LeoDias column reported that the station cannot broadcast any kind of live program. In addition, Record runs the risk of losing its entire file system. As a result, employees have been laid off until the issue is resolved.

Sports Betting: Blue Jays are under pressure

Baseball fans had better bet the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend, according to bookies, who favor them for a win over the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the playoffs.

• Also read: Blue Jays: Otto Lopez opens the machine at the end of the season

• Also read: New York Yankees: No Triple Crown for Aaron Judge

With the entire best-of-three series taking place at Rogers Center, the Jays have the good game before they even step on the field, and observers are well aware of that. For example, Friday morning’s Mise-o-jeu+ site offered odds of 1.58 for a Toronto win, regardless of the number of meetings required. On the other hand, visitors allow bettors to win 2.40x their stake if they win.

Also, it is possible to decide the total number of games played and predict the winners at the same time. The option of a win in two games for the home team seems the most likely in the eyes of the same platform under the odds of 2.80. If the Jays win in three games, those involved receive 3.35 times their stake.

In the event of a loss, the bet amount is multiplied by 5.00 or 4.30 for a result of two or three games.

– Elsewhere in the major leagues, the Cleveland Guardians (1.80) start with a lead over the Tampa Bay Rays (2.05), according to the betting site. The New York Mets (1.51) are favorites against the San Diego Padres (2.65), as are the St. Louis Cardinals (1.74) against the Philadelphia Phillies (2.15).

UN Nuclear power plant in Ukraine loses external power connection

UN: Nuclear power plant in Ukraine loses external power connection

BERLIN (AP) – Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, has lost its last remaining external power source as a result of renewed shelling and is now dependent on backup diesel generators, the UN nuclear watchdog said on Saturday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said the plant’s connection to a 750-kilovolt line was cut around 1 a.m. Saturday. It cited official information from Ukraine as well as reports from IAEA experts at the site, which is held by Russian forces.

All six of the plant’s reactors are shut down, but still require power for cooling and other safety functions. Plant engineers have begun repairing the damaged power line, and the plant’s generators — not all of which are currently in use — each have enough fuel to last at least 10 days, the IAEA said.

“The resumption of shelling, which hits the facility’s only external source of energy, is extremely irresponsible,” said IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi.

Grossi visited Kyiv on Thursday. He said he will travel to Russia soon and then make another trip to Ukraine to further his efforts to establish a “nuclear safe and secure protection zone” around the facility, which he has been campaigning for for weeks.

“This is an absolute and urgent necessity,” he said. The IAEA did not claim responsibility for the shelling.

Zaporizhia is one of four regions in Ukraine that Russian President Vladimir Putin illegally annexed. While the nuclear power plant has been under Russian control for months, the city of the same name remains under Ukrainian control.

Putin signed a decree on Wednesday declaring that Russia would take over the plant. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called it a criminal act and said it considered Putin’s decree “null and void.” Ukraine’s state nuclear operator, Energoatom, said it will continue to operate the plant.

Wall Street banks cut $34 billion from earnings forecasts for big companies

Wall Street banks have lowered their expectations for third-quarter earnings for large US companies by $34 billion over the past three months, and analysts are now expecting the weakest rise in earnings since the depths of the Covid crisis.

According to FactSet data, analysts expect companies included in the S&P 500 Index to post 2.6 percent growth in earnings per share for the July-September quarter compared to the same period last year. That figure is down from 9.8 percent in early July and, if accurate, would represent the weakest quarter since July-September 2020, when the economy was still suffering from the coronavirus lockdowns.

The darkening outlook highlights how concerns about Federal Reserve rate hikes and early signs of a weakening US economy have led investors to be more cautious about the prospects for listed companies. Wall Street’s S&P 500 is already down about a fifth this year as fund managers adjust to that reality, but many analysts worry current earnings expectations are still overly optimistic.

“There are some positives in the mix. . .[but]There is little incentive for companies to provide an overly optimistic outlook when the market is pricing it in anyway,” said Chris Shipley, chief investment strategist for North America at Northern Trust Asset Management.

Column chart of annual change in EPS (%) showing that US large companies are expected to see a slowdown in earnings growth

The Fed is in the midst of its most aggressive rate-hiking cycle since the 1980s, and Chairman Jay Powell has made it clear that it is willing to inflict economic pain to bring down inflation. Rate hikes have pushed up the cost of borrowing for consumers and businesses, weighed heavily on asset prices and are likely to reduce demand in the world’s largest economy.

“[Estimates] are still higher than I would reasonably expect,” said Omar Aguilar, chief executive at Schwab Asset Management. “They don’t necessarily have to go down dramatically, but I think there’s a strong possibility that if the [Fed] succeeds in its quest to destroy demand, earnings will reflect that in the first half of next year.”

As earnings report season kicks off next week, investors will be watching closely for clues as to how inflation is affecting costs and consumer demand, how hiring plans are changing, and which companies were better at predicting appetites to avoid they are left with full stocks of unsold furniture or clothing.

The dollar’s recent strength will create an additional pressure point for many companies, as around a third of the S&P 500’s earnings are generated overseas.

If S&P 500 earnings meet expectations and rise 2.6 percent, that would still mean a decline after adjusting for inflation, as annual US inflation is more than 8 percent. Even these results are flattered by the outperformance of a single sector – energy – which has benefited from rising commodity prices. Excluding energy, analysts are forecasting a 3.8 percent decline.

Still, estimates for next year have been far more robust so far, with consensus pointing to growth of 6.5 percent in the first quarter and 5.5 percent in the second.

There are some reasons to be optimistic. Retail spending data has been relatively resilient and a recent drop in gasoline prices will give consumers an additional boost.

Recent high-profile warnings from companies like FedEx have drawn outsized attention, but the total number of negative trade updates over the past three months was actually lower than the previous two quarters, while the number of positive updates was above the five-year average.

But strategists at Morgan Stanley have argued that companies’ ability to forecast demand has been hampered since the coronavirus pandemic began.

From a stock market perspective, there is disagreement as to whether stocks have fallen enough to reflect the uncertain environment. Morgan Stanley has been particularly down this year, arguing last month that “there’s still a long way to go before reality has a fair price.”

However, Denise Chisholm, director of quantitative strategy at Fidelity, said that despite the fact that “estimates for next year are not yet rational,” shares in some economically sensitive sectors such as consumer staples have already fallen enough that the worst news is priced in .

“There is a general belief that when earnings are weak only ‘defensive’ stocks will outperform, but sometimes economically sensitive sectors price this in much quicker. . . When earnings drop, sometimes stocks have already bottomed out.”

The S&P 500 line chart shows US stocks getting cheaper relative to earnings

As average valuations of companies in the S&P 500 fell from 21 times next year’s expected earnings to 16 at the end of 2021, many investors and analysts said the next few weeks could present an opportunity for companies better able to navigate the difficult environment to differentiate itself from underperforming competitors after a random sell-off.

The potential for sharp rallies during the bear market was highlighted this week as the S&P posted its biggest two-day rise in more than two years, but few expect strong gains will be enough to sustain the broader market lift unless the Fed changes his approach.

“Many securities are attractively priced,” said Charles Lemonides, chief investment officer at Valueworks, a New York-based hedge fund. “I think there will be a distinction between winners and losers. . .[but]If you look at the overall market, the Fed is still the be-all and end-all.”

Kanye West isn’t done fighting Kim Kardashian over kid’s schooling: ‘I don’t compromise’

Kanye West is still pushing his kids to attend Donda Academy.

The second part of the “Heartless” rapper’s interview with Tucker Carlson aired Friday night, and West, 45, made it clear he’s not willing to “compromise” when it comes to the education of his four children.

“All they do is take all the celebrity kids and throw them in the same school,” the rapper said of his kids’ current school, Sierra Canyon, claiming the administration is trying to “indoctrinate them.”

“Right now we’ve come to a compromise — but I’m not done because I don’t compromise — but we’ve come to a compromise that my kids come to my school after school and learn choir.”

“I sat there with it [Psalm] and he came in and said, ‘Why do I have to sing? I don’t even go to your school,'” the rapper told Carlson, adding that he doesn’t feel like he has a say in his children’s development.

“So imagine a 16-year-old version of this guy, or the 26-year-old version of this guy, where the father has no word on what the kids watch, what the kids wear, what kids eat, or who the kids eat with hang out.”

Ever since the reality star filed for divorce last year, West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian have been at odds over how to raise their children

Currently, the four children go to Sierra Canyon full-time and then participate in after-school activities in Donda. While Ye may not agree with all of Kardashian’s parenting techniques, he previously admitted that the Skims founder has his kids “80 percent of the time.”

The fashion designer, who shares North, Saint, Psalm and Chicago with Kardashian, 41, has been vocal about his disdain for the children’s private school – which he helped choose.

Last month, in the midst of a social media tirade, the rapper shared screenshots of his text messages with an unidentified person (believed to be Kardashian).

“No, we need to talk in person, so you have no say in where the kids go to school. why you gonna say say Because you’re half white?” one of the texts read.

In another message, the rapper reiterated that idea, writing, “You guys have no say over my black kids and where they go to school.”

Less than 24 hours later, however, West claimed the “co-parenting” was going well after he proposed the “idea” that his kids could spend three days at their private school and the other two days at his school 15 miles away.

Tennessee will be without star receiver Cedric Tillman against LSU on Saturday, sources tell ESPN that he did not travel to Baton Rouge for the game.

Tillman is still recovering from a high ankle sprain and subsequent wire rope surgery performed on September 20 1 Alabama visits Knoxville.

This is the second straight game Tillman has missed since the surgery occurred the week of Tennessee’s home game against Florida on Sept. 24. Tennessee had a bye last week.

Tillman is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound redshirt senior who ranks as the Vols’ top wide receiver and top deep outside threat.

He has 17 catches for 246 yards and one touchdown this season, including a dominant street performance in Pittsburgh in which he caught nine balls for 162 yards and the game-winning 28-yard touchdown.

His 12 touchdowns in 2021 were the second most in Tennessee history. His 1,081 receiving yards last year made him the leading returning receiver in the SEC and second in the league behind Jameson Williams’ 1,595 yards.

In Tillman’s absence, junior receiver Jalin Hyatt had a career year with a team-high of 23 catches, 325 yards and 3 touchdowns received. Redshirt junior receiver Bru McCoy caught five balls for 102 yards against Florida and emerged as an outside threat in Tillman’s absence.

New XBB variant of Covid 19 contagiousness vaccine resistance… should

New XBB variant of Covid 19: contagiousness, vaccine resistance… should we be worried about this new strain?

The Gist Many subvariants of Omicron have been discovered around the world, but scientists are currently closely examining the XBB subvariant, which is more resistant to the antibodies generated by vaccination. La Dépêche du Midi takes stock.

He has been alone in the French “epidemic landscape” for several months. The BA.5 subvariant alone, belonging to the Omicron family, carried two waves of contamination linked to Covid-19 in France. At the beginning of the 2022 academic year, no other variant has caught on at European level, leaving health authorities free to fight again against a variant whose properties are known. However, the scientific community is concerned about a variant identified in Asia called “XBB”, which is also from the Omicron lineage and is likely to spread to Europe. La Dépêche du Midi takes stock of this new discovery.

What do we know about this new variant?

Like any other virus, Sars-Cov-2 replicates and transforms. Today, the scientific community has identified over 300 sublineages belonging to the Omicron lineage. This is evidence that the virus has mutated many times over the two and a half years of the pandemic (see box below). The XBB variant is of this caliber: it is “the result of a combination of two sub-lines of Omicron”, explains Professor Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist, doctor and director of the Institute for Global Health of the Medical School of La Dépêche du Midi Geneva.

INFOGRAPHICS. Covid-19: France hit by the 8th wave, which departments are most affected?

This new strain is equipped with five characteristic mutations that “enable the subvariants equipped with them to better bypass acquired immunity to counteract the attachment of the virus to our cells,” the researcher continues. In practice, XBB could therefore infect our organism more easily: The variant “would be one of the previously known variants of SARS-CoV-2 that best manages to evade acquired immunity (after contamination, NB) or vaccination”, explains the epidemiologist .

Where was this variant discovered?

The XBB variant was first discovered in Singapore, where it appears to be spreading at a rapid pace and is gradually becoming a ‘dominant strain’. “In Australia it now accounts for 5% of samples sequenced, with very rapid and very recent growth,” comments Professor Antoine Flahault.

In addition, the first cases of contamination were noted in Europe and the United States: this variant is therefore likely to reassert itself there or even “coexist with other subvariants that seem to share certain common characteristics with XBB “, the researcher continues.

Would the vaccines used today still be effective against this variant?

The researchers remain hopeful that vaccine immunity and immunity acquired through infections due to previous variants will reduce the risk of severe forms associated with this new variant.

Vaccines against Covid-19: for whom? which serums? What you need to know about the new vaccination campaign starting this Monday

“The cell-mediated immunity – which enables our body to fight against severe forms of Covid – is not, to our knowledge, bypassed by these new variants,” says Professor Flahault. Vaccines, mono- and bivalent (new generation, editor’s note). ) should therefore continue to protect us effectively against the risks of hospitalization and death associated with Covid”.

How does a virus mutate?

When it enters a cell, a virus replicates: it copies itself in order to spread. Errors in copying the virus genome can occur during replication, such as: B. a computer “bug”. But this error may or may not have a greater or lesser impact on the behavior of the virus: these are mutations. A variant is thus a virus that carries one or more new mutations of the original virus.
