Ottawa Police Officer Admits Donation to ‘Freedom Convoy’

An Ottawa police officer has admitted making a donation to the GoFundMe platform Freedom Convoy, which toured the streets of the federal capital for several weeks last February.

Police officer Kristina Neilson pleaded guilty to one count of dishonorable conduct under the Police Services Act on Thursday, she reported CBC News.

The police representative made a $55 donation on the donation platform on Jan. 23, two days after the protesters who were part of the convoy began arriving in Ottawa.

When the collection for the convoy was removed from the GoFundMe platform due to a Terms of Service violation, he was refunded that donation. However, the officer donated the same amount to another fundraising platform for the convoy, GiveSendGo, which she was also reimbursed.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Professional Standards Unit was brought to the attention of the matter last February, and an investigation by the Professional Standards Section was launched.

The officer has no history of wrongdoing. A verdict is expected at a later date.

What is the shirt hook used for?

The little hook whose official name is the loop closetwas incorporated into shirts in the 1950s at the suggestion of the United States Navy. According to the Toluna Influencers portal, these sailors pointed out that due to the lack of space in their closets and not having much time to iron their uniforms, their shirts wrinkled easily.

This gave rise to the idea of attaching a piece of fabric as a hook to hang up the shirts directly without a wardrobe. This kept the garments looking impeccable and this became a tradition in the United States Navy.

According to the American program Today, the boys broke their shirt hooks when they were in a romantic relationship. So if someone saw the piece of cloth missing from their uniform, it meant they already had a crush.

Although he no longer fulfills that function today, the catch for the youth of the time was a grand romantic gesture.

Recipes from the great afterlife! Woman goes viral while recreating crockery details on tombstones

A woman has found a unique source of specialty recipes, shunning cookbooks in favor of cemeteries, where she tracks down gravestones with eating instructions engraved on them.

Rosie Grant from Los Angeles, California is a librarian and TikToker with a passion for baking and history; In recent months, the tombstone enthusiast has found a very quirky way to combine her two passions by recreating recipes she finds on tombstones.

Rosie has committed to finding tombstones describing delicious dishes, while her social media is filled with clips of her searching and recreating the recipes.

The TikToker has prepared several dishes — including two favorites: Spritz Cookies and Fudge — and the baker even travels across the country to find recipes, traveling from state to state to recreate the best graveyard dessert.

Rosie’s baking journey began a year ago when she was an intern for a convention cemetery.

She started using social media to post about the graveyard and quickly became hooked on #GraveTok, which is filled with many other gravestone enthusiasts detailing their graveyard finds.

Around the same time, Rosie was learning to cook and stumbled across an article about the spritz cookie recipe that was left on a gravestone.

After reading the article, she was determined to find more tombstone recipes.

She then posted a video with the caption, “I’m going to start making recipes out of tombstones.”

In the video, Rosie made the spritz cookies based on ingredients she found at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery.

Although there were no instructions on the tombstones, the biscuits turned out well and became Rosie’s most popular and famous replicas.

Speaking to the Guardian, Rosie revealed the recipes weren’t that easy to come by and she found most of them online.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Rosie noted that after learning about the “death-positive community,” she shared her dishes to reduce the stigma surrounding mortality.

She said: “I’ve only found about 10 so far, mostly through online searches.”

Rosie has used news reports, tweets and a site called Find a Grave to discover the graveyard crockery.

She has made many different dishes including snickerdoodle cookies, blueberry glazed pie, peach cobbler, fudge, spritz cookies and date nut bread.

A recipe to die for! The spritz cookie recipe that Rosie loves

While the tombstone doesn’t describe exactly what to do, it does list the ingredients needed to make these delicious cookies:

  • A cup of butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • A teaspoon of vanilla
  • An egg
  • Two and 1/4 cups flour
  • Half a teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Rosie said the first three graves she visited included the recipes of spritz cookies, date nut bread from a gravestone in Erie County, New York, and a fudge recipe she discovered in Logan, Utah and that became one of her favorites.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Rosie noted that after learning about the “death-positive community,” she shared her dishes to reduce the stigma surrounding mortality.

‘[It’s] the idea that society is better when we understand our own mortality and change the way we think about it [death is] like a celebration of our lives instead of something to fear or ignore. So that’s kind of where this whole thing came from.’

“Personally, I am very afraid of my own mortality. “So I think a final is just a kind of consolation for me [death] – even just conversations with my own family like: “Where do I want to be buried? How do I want to be remembered?”

“I feel like the tombstone recipes lend themselves to speaking about really difficult topics in a simpler way.”

Though she’s worked hard to recreate and discover the tombstone bowls, she noted that she doesn’t have to find one herself just yet.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t go organically through a graveyard and found a recipe myself.

“I mean, that would be the dream one day.”

Eventually, Rosie’s dream is to visit all the tombstones around the world that have recipes written on them.

Social media users have flooded Rosie’s comments section with praising the idea, even noting how “healthy” the gesture was.

One user said: “Kind of amazing to imagine how happy the recipes brought each individual, obviously it was her love language and she chose to share it.”

Another user added, “I had no idea this was a thing and it’s such a lovely idea – both that the recipes exist and that you make them.”

“What a cool way to keep her legacy going,” wrote one user.

“Something about it is just insanely healthy. even after death they share their love,” commented another user.

The symbolic launch of the European Political Community in Prague

The symbolic launch of the European Political Community in Prague

Posted on October 6, 2022 at 6:45 p.m. Updated October 6, 2022 at 10:30 p.m.

The first meeting of the European Political Community, a new forum for cooperation across Europe from Iceland to Azerbaijan (with 44 guests), on Thursday achieved one of its goals: a truly historic family photo, made despite strong tensions between some guests.

Therefore, under the great Gothic vault of the Vladislav Hall at Prague Castle, not far from the geographical center of the continent, 42 heads of state and government posed in a rather good-natured atmosphere, despite the gravity of the events of the last month. The Danish Mette Frederiksen had commitments in Copenhagen and the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer was late.

In the middle are Emmanuel Macron, father of the initiative, and Petr Fiala, Czech Prime Minister and host of the conference. Around them are frontline leaders of support for Ukraine, like Estonia’s Kaja Kallas, others for lifting sanctions on Moscow, like Hungarian Viktor Orban.

Signal to Russia

But, summarized Josep Borrell, head of European diplomacy: “This meeting is an attempt to find a new order without Russia. That doesn’t mean we want to exclude Russia forever, but this Russia, Putin’s Russia, has no place.”

In the plenary session, the Norwegian Prime Minister spoke about the energy situation after Petr Fiala’s opening speech, and his flamboyant Albanian counterpart welcomed the creation of this new format, which initially sparked skepticism in May when Emmanuel Macron presented the concept. He represented the group of countries in a hurry to join the EU.

British offensive

The domestically weakened new British Prime Minister Liz Truss also spoke. While we initially wondered if she would go to Prague, two years after the rough split of the EU and the UK, she apparently jumped at the opportunity to pose as a key figure in the organization of the continent.

The meeting was also an opportunity for Franco-British rapprochement. Paris and London have agreed to organize a Franco-British summit in France next year “to advance a renewed bilateral agenda”, particularly on energy and immigration (nuclear and coastal surveillance). After the end of the meeting, Emmanuel Macron expressed his satisfaction that the UK is taking a constructive approach again after the difficult Johnson years.

defuse conflicts

The leaders, who took part in four round tables throughout the day, identified seven areas of cooperation: protecting essential infrastructure (cables, gas pipelines, satellites) after the sabotage observed in the Baltic Sea, fighting cybercrime, fighting hostile powers in four vulnerable regions (North Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Caucasus), increased support for Ukraine, an integrated energy strategy, migration and a common youth policy (student exchange, researcher exchange).

Many bilateral, tripartite and quadripartite meetings have taken place, particularly to try to defuse the sometimes heated arguments between some of the participants. Emmanuel Macron therefore met twice with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

It is now certain that there will be a second meeting of the European Political Community in Moldova in the first half of 2023. Spain, which will hold the EU’s rotating presidency in the second half of 2023, is expected to host the third and Britain the fourth.

Informal summit of the Twenty-Seven

Following that meeting, the Twenty-Seven remain in Prague for a more technical informal summit on Friday. They will focus on providing financial assistance to Ukraine, deteriorating economic conditions and securing critical infrastructure.

They will again discuss ways to combat energy price inflation, which threatens to have a major structural impact on the European economy. The industry is facing a huge loss of competitiveness against its North American and Asian competitors. European Employers’ President Fredrik Persson warned the Twenty-Seven on Thursday about the risks of relocating certain production outside the EU.

Kanye West responds to Diddy’s criticism of ‘WLM’ shirt: ‘You Guys Are Breaking My Heart’

Kanye West is continuing his Instagram rant against those who have credited his decision to wear a White Lives Matter shirt during his Yeezy Season 9 runway show.

On Friday (October 7) he aligned his target on Diddy and shared screenshots of text messages between the two. “I didn’t like our conversation, I’m selling these t-shirts,” Ye Puff said in a lengthy text. “No one comes between me and my money. This is my grandfather texting you right now.”

He added: “Never call me with no cops – so again, unless you’re willing to give me the green light, because everyone who’s gotten on that tee is me. Like Virgil, I will remain silent out of respect for all you meant to me, but now I know how I hurt people I love with threats.”

Ye followed with another post in which Diddy Ye allegedly texted, “As soon as I land we’ll meet face to face!!!” to which the rapper replied, “N—-, f—you.”

“This is not a game,” West continued in another post. “I use you as an example to show the Jews who told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me. I told you this is war. Now do some business.”

In the final exchange between the two moguls that Ye shared, Diddy reportedly wrote, “I’m just trying to speak to you as a black man. And I’m talking to you because it hurts our people. Stop.”

Kanye replied: “Anything you write I will post. I love you and you break my heart. I accept your apologies in advance.”

Earlier in the week, Diddy shared his own Instagram video of Yes’s White Lives Matter t-shirt. “I’m not going to address everything that’s going on in the world online, but what I have to address is this ‘White Lives Matter’ t-shirt,” Diddy said in the video. “I’ve always been there and will always support my brother Kanye as a freethinker. But the White Lives Matter t-shirt, I don’t rock it, you know what I’m saying? I am not there.”

Brazil: Ipec poll gives Lula 51% and Bolsonaro 43% Ultima Ora

(ANSA) — BRAZIL, OCTOBER 6 — The first poll conducted by the Ipec agency ahead of the October 30 runoff gave former Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva 51% of the vote versus 43% for President Jair Bolsonaro.

In disseminating these results, Ipec stated that the poll has an error rate of +/- 2% and that all votes, even zero and blank votes, were taken into account.

Brazilian legislation only considers valid votes for the results, without considering null or blank ballots. In this case, for Ipec, Lula (Pt, left) is 55% versus 45% for Bolsonaro (Pl, right).

Compared to the previous poll, the Pt candidate’s votes have increased by seven points and Bolsonaro’s by two compared to the first round.

25 days after the vote, 92% of people polled said they had already decided their vote. At the same time, 50% said they would never vote for Bolsonaro and 40% said they would never vote for Lula.

The Globo Group commissioned this survey from Ipec, one of the institutes criticized for the mistakes made on the eve of the first round.

Last Saturday, the IPEC awarded Lula three points more than the vote and Bolsonaro six points less than the outgoing president actually scored.

Serbia received a commitment from Austria in terms of border protection. It’s about more support.

Austria and Hungary promised Serbia more support in securing the border with North Macedonia. In return, Serbia wants to tighten its visa rules for countries from which particularly large numbers of migrants are illegally entering the EU. In a meeting between Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (both ÖVP) with Serbian and Hungarian counterparts in Belgrade on Thursday, the migration situation on the “Balkan route” was discussed.

Austria: Support for Serbian border guards

At a joint press conference with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vulin, Interior Minister Karner thanked Serbia for its commitment to adapting visa rules to those of the European Union. Among other things, people from India and Tunisia can currently enter Serbia without a visa, and more recently, they continued to drive to the EU from there with the help of smugglers. According to Karner, Austria was particularly affected.

Southern border: Serbia receives support from Austria

In return, Serbia will receive support from Austria and Hungary to secure its southern border with North Macedonia. No specific details were provided, which should be clarified at official level. According to the Ministry of Interior, Austria will mainly provide technical support to Serbia.

“Serbia, Hungary and Austria have a common problem”

Vulin also spoke of financial support from Hungary and Austria to strengthen existing police patrols on the Serbian border. However, there should be no new hotspots or reception centers for migrants. Serbia does not want to be “a parking lot for migrants,” Vulin said. “Serbia, Hungary and Austria have a common problem and therefore they must solve it together,” said the Serbian interior minister. Taking into account the “explosion” in the number of migrants, which can certainly be compared with those of 2015, this “is no longer a humanitarian crisis, it is about criminals”.

Hungary spoke of ‘siege’ of the border by migrants

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the same, speaking of a “siege” of Hungary’s southern border by migrants, some of whom were armed. “For us, this is not a human rights issue, but a matter of violating the laws of our country,” Szijjártó said.

Karner did not want to completely erase the human rights issue from the table: “The fight against human traffickers is also a human rights issue because human traffickers trample human rights,” he said.

Hungary has denied reports

Szijjártó dismissed reports of mistreatment of migrants at the Serbian-Hungarian border. Karner asked that such reports be reported to authorities.

Austria is already helping Serbia with border protection

Austria has supported Serbia with police officers for border protection since 2020. In early September, Karner announced that the number of Austrian police officers would increase from 50 to 70. Ten Austrian officers are currently deployed on the border between Serbia and North Macedonia.

Closer cooperation had already been agreed at the meeting between Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Budapest on Monday. The three heads of state and government want to meet again at the end of October.
