Browns’ Myles Garrett has a chance to split the Jets’ offense

When the Browns’ Myles Garrett unleashes all hell on the Jets on Sunday, blame God.

“The good god was on his A-game when he built Myles,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said before his team practiced at Florham Park on Friday.

That sounds about right for a defensive end listed as 6-foot-4 and 272 pounds while being chiseled in ways no 272-pound man should be. The first overall pick of 2017 lived up to expectations, terrorizing the quarterbacks with 60.5 sacks in 69 career games for Cleveland.

“He has no flaw in his game,” Saleh said of Garrett, who’s fast enough to chase just about any quarterback. “He’s big. He’s got everything. When he turns it on, he’s unblockable.”

“He’s an absolute problem,” Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said.

Right tackle Max Mitchell, a fourth-round rookie from Louisiana who was forced into the lineup due to injuries to Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown, may be asked to slow Garrett for the Cleveland showdown. The Jets start with Mitchell and left tackle George Fant on a makeshift offensive line that failed to impress in the season-opening loss to the Ravens.

“Definitely an opportunity,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell mostly stayed out in his first NFL career game. His second probably will be more difficult.

“It’s an opportunity to give my name a little bit more status there,” said the 22-year-old. “You don’t become the best if you don’t play the best.”

What makes things even more challenging for the Jets is the fact that Garrett, who sacked Carolina’s Baker Mayfield twice in Week 1, can’t get everyone’s attention. On the other side of the Browns’ defensive line is Jadeveon Clowney, who gives Cleveland a duo that jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker said will likely be as impressive as any two pass rushers they’ll face.

If Garrett is primarily opposite left tackle, he would typically be Fant’s problem, while Mitchell would be tasked with Clowney more often. But the defensive ends can rotate.

“He’s a great athlete. He flexes well,” Mitchell said of Garrett. “Dude sums up what it means to have a great ending. Cover our P’s and Q’s this week and focus on myself this week. Hopefully we get out there and get the job done.”

It’s a difficult requirement for any offensive line, let alone one that’s shifted as much as the Jets’. The group didn’t play together enough as injuries opened up holes and Fant hopped from left to right and now left again.

Against that Jelling unit, the Browns will counter with two ends who have combined career 102 sacks. And the quarterback the Jets line will protect, Joe Flacco, who was sacked three times in Week 1, doesn’t have much mobility.

“They’ve been in this league for a minute now wreaking havoc,” Vera-Tucker said. “It’s a big challenge for us.”

And a big compliment to God’s chisel.

Elizabeth II: The bracelets distributed in the queue to see the coffin will be resold nearby …

The red bracelets, precious sesame to get to the Queen’s coffin and pay homage to her, are already the subject of speculation.

Among the collector’s editions of magazines and other Barbies featuring Queen Elizabeth, whose prices have skyrocketed since the sovereign’s death, there are now paper bracelets on eBay.

Some of these bracelets are now being sold for £350, several British media outlets discovered this Saturday. These are the bracelets issued to those who queued, often for many, many hours, to approach the Queen’s coffin, which was on display at Westminster Hall until Monday morning. However, they can only become collectibles and are in no way intended to save time in the queue.

These bracelets, colored and time-stamped, are in fact personal and non-transferable. “This is a record of when you entered the queue,” the government website said.

Wearing these bracelets allows the queues to leave them to have a drink in one of the pubs that stayed open along the route or to visit the toilets installed for this purpose.

More than 24 hours queue

The Queen’s coffin has been on public display in Westminster Hall since Wednesday. Several hundred thousand people are expected through Monday morning to pay tribute to the Queen, who died on Thursday September 8 at the age of 96. Former footballer David Beckham therefore queued for 12 hours to come and also meditate in front of the Queen’s coffin.

Time to access Westminster Hall is estimated to be over 24 hours this Saturday morning.

Queen Elizabeth lined up for final farewell with tents and sleeping bags: unprecedented exodus expected in London

The series of motifs as far as the eye can see; the intimacy of a royal family trying — at least for the duration of the mourning — to regroup inside. Vladimir Putin says Russia is in no hurry to end war in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said Russia was “in no hurry” to end the campaign in Ukraine, stating that the strategy of Russian forces has not changed and that they are still seizing territory.

“Our offensive operations in Donbass have not stopped, they are advancing bit by bit,” Putin told a news conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

“I stress that we are not fighting with our entire army. We only fight with the part that has a contract [profissional]”, he added. The Kremlin has officially banned the sending of recruits to the front and refuses to carry out a general mobilization in the country.

“The plan [de operações] doesn’t need any changes. […] We’re in no hurry,” he said.

The president said operations continued despite major counteroffensives by the Ukrainian army in the northeast and south of the country. “The Kiev authorities have announced that they have launched a counteroffensive. […] Let’s see how it ends,” Putin said.

According to him, the main goal of the Kremlin remains “the liberation of the entire Donbass region”, the mining basin in eastern Ukraine formed by the Lugansk region in the hands of the Russian army and the Donetsk region, which is partially occupied by Moscow .

Volkswagen ID.3 2023: which we are denied

Shortly before the Volkswagen ID.4 we know, came the ID.3, an all-electric hatchback. First presented as a prototype at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the ID.3 landed on the European market in September 2020. Unfortunately, this model is not marketed in North America.

Through Copenhagen to the launch of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz 2023, The Car Guide also took the opportunity to drive a few kilometers behind the wheel of the forbidden fruit ID.3. Here’s the full review of our first impressions.

A well-known architecture

If there were other electric vehicles like the e-Golf before the ID.3, it can boast of being the first to be assembled on the MEB architecture intended exclusively for the group’s electric vehicles. In a way, it is spiritually the successor to the e-Golf.

Shorter, narrower, lower and lighter than the ID.4, the ID.3 looks more like a compact hatchback than a crossover. Depending on the version chosen, it offers space for four to five people. We could compare it to the Chevrolet Bolt EV and even the electric Hyundai Kona. However, unlike these two models that we love, the ID.3 has rear-wheel drive.

Aesthetically, the ID.3 looks a bit like a futuristic Golf. We found the equipment of the test model to be elegant, which, in addition to the moon-grey paint finish, also includes the window band, the roof and the tailgate in black. We don’t like the rims shown in the photos. Inside, the captain’s chairs offer excellent comfort. There is enough space at the back. The instrumentation is almost identical to that of the ID.4. You should know that there is no storage space under the front cover.

In France, consumers can choose between a 62 or 82 kWh battery. The second is not unusual for the people here because it is located in the floor of the ID.4. As for the 62 kWh, it will equip the entry-level version of the ID.4 from model year 2023. In short, these are known components. Depending on the market, the ID.3 can also have a smaller battery with a capacity of 55 kWh.

In terms of autonomy, Volkswagen announces that you can travel up to 424 kilometers with an ID.3 Performance equipped with a 58 kWh battery. The range increases to 556 kilometers with a Pro S version. This data is calculated according to WLTP standards and is more optimistic than North American calculation methods. Regardless of the version chosen, the developed power is 150 kW or 204 hp.

Although our review of the ID.3 was brief, we were able to pick up a few details that we think are interesting. If you’ve already taken the wheel of an ID.4, you won’t feel out of place taking the wheel of the ID.3. Their behavior is very similar. Despite the same wheelbase, the ID.3 remains more agile, lively and responsive and at the same time less clumsy than the ID.4. This makes it a very efficient city car. Not surprisingly, we receive very little feedback from management.

Not for North America

Above we compared the ID.3 to the Bolt EV and the Kona electric, specifically for their format but also their vocation. If these two American and Korean models are marketed across North America, their success is centralized in Quebec, California and somewhat in British Columbia. So if we open our blinders a bit, we understand that the ID.3’s business plan in North America wasn’t interesting. Volkswagen preferred to focus on the ID.4, a crossover more suited to the North American majority.

Photo: Germain Goyer

You should also know that the ID.3 is not an entry-level car, although it is a compact hatchback. In fact, in France it shows a starting price of 44,990 euros. For an optional heat pump, 1,100 euros must be added. The ID.4 is sold from 43,000 euros. As a reference, the eighth generation Golf is offered there from 30,685 euros. It was therefore not to be expected that Volkswagen would offer the ID.3 at a more attractive price than the ID.4 in our market. In this situation, who would have preferred the ID.3 to an ID.4 for the same or maybe even cheaper price? A handful of buyers.

If Volkswagen does not flatly reject the idea of diversifying its range of electric vehicles on our continent by evaluating the possibility of marketing, for example, the second generation ID.3, nothing will come of it either. For our market, the manufacturer is concentrating on the production of the ID.4 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and the possible marketing of the new IDs. Aero and ID. buzz.

DC is WFH capital with 48.3% of workers staying at home in 2021

Washington, DC has become America’s work-from-home — as 48.3 percent of employees worked remotely in 2021, new census data revealed.

The latest US Census Bureau results show that DC has paved the way for remote work, closely followed by Seattle with 46.8 percent of employees working from home.

In San Francisco, 45.6 percent of workers worked remotely, while Austin and Atlanta had 38.8 and 38.7 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, Memphis, El Paso, Texas, and Wichita, Kansas, all bottomed with just 10 percent of employees working from home.

Overall, the U.S. reported that nearly 18 percent of its workforce enjoys teleworking, nearly three times the pre-pandemic number.

“Work and commuting are central to American life, so the widespread adoption of work from home is a defining feature of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Census Bureau statistician Michael Burrows said in a statement Thursday .

“With the number of people primarily working from home tripling in just two years, the pandemic has had a very strong impact on the US commuting landscape.”

Washington, DC nearly mirrored the pre-pandemic national average for remote work, reporting that between 2017 and 2019 about 6 to 7 percent of its workforce was working from home.

Among metro areas with populations over 1 million, the capital ranked third for remote work at 33.1 percent, just behind the San Jose metro area at 34.8 percent and the San Francisco Bay Area at 35.1 percent.

Washington, Maryland, Colorado and Massachusetts were all among the countries with the highest percentages of home workers in the US, with all four states reporting that about 24 percent of the workforce was working from home in 2021.

Mississippi ranks last with just 6.3 percent of employees working from home, up from 3.1 percent in 2019.

Louisiana followed with 8.4 percent and Wyoming reported nearly 8.9 percent.

William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, told the Washington Post that recent work from home correlates with college education.

Washington DC and Seattle both rank among the best educated cities in the country, with 63 percent and 68 percent, respectively, of people ages 25 and older having a bachelor’s degree or higher.

San Francisco, Austin and Atlanta were close behind, joining the latest remote work numbers.

“By and large, these are magnets for younger, well-educated, computer-savvy adults who are often associated with the technology industry and are well-positioned to work from home,” Frey told the Post.

This aligns with a Pew Research Center survey earlier this year that found higher-income workers who have a four-year college degree are more likely to work from home than those who don’t have a bachelor’s degree.

The survey found that 65 percent of college graduates are more likely to say their work can be done remotely than 53 percent of their peers.

The latest data from the Census Bureau comes from the 2021 American Community Survey, released Thursday.

The survey typically draws on responses from 3.5 million households to provide 11 billion estimates of commute times, internet access, family life, income, educational attainment, disabilities, military service and employment each year.

The estimates help allocate hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending. The response rates have improved significantly from 2020 to 2021.

Sweden election: Ulf Kristersson’s transformation

Before the 2018 election, Ulf Kristersson reportedly made a promise. Like other leading Swedish politicians of the time, the leader of the bourgeois moderates also visited Holocaust survivor Hédi Fried, a moral authority in the country. Fried warned of the threat to democracy she saw looming. Kristersson, she later said, vowed not to agree to cooperation with the Swedish Democrats. Now, after Sunday’s election, there is every indication that Ulf Kristersson will become the new prime minister – and that his government will depend on the support of right-wing populists.

leer

Matthias Wysuwa

Political correspondent for Northern Germany and Scandinavia based in Hamburg.

Kristersson was born in Lund in December 1963 and grew up near Eskilstuna, a good 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. Since taking the lead from the moderates in late 2017, he has wondered how the party should deal with the Swedish Democrats.

Right-wing populists were isolated in parliament for a long time. Kristersson’s predecessor as party leader stumbled when she once raised the possibility of us working together. After the 2018 election, Kristersson tried to confirm himself as prime minister in parliament, but two bourgeois parties refused to support him – they wanted to prevent any influence from the Swedish Democrats.

moving away from past vows

One of the two, the Liberals, reversed that decision. You’ve returned to the middle-class camp and, like Kristersson, made it clear before the election that you’re ready for the Swedish Democrats to support you. So it will come now.

Kristersson, who is married and adopted three girls from China with his wife, drew attention from the start of his party. The economist moved to the Reichstag in 1991 and was president of the youth association until 1992 – until he lost to Fredrik Reinfeldt in the council election. Reinfeldt belonged to the conservative wing, Kristersson to the liberal. Reinfeldt was prime minister from 2006 to 2014, and Kristersson served as minister for four years. After his electoral defeat, Reinfeldt wrote a book.

He described the Swedish Democrats as a party that essentially unites racists and xenophobia and attracts voters who are dissatisfied with their lives and the area they live in. Kristersson, however, officially welcomed Jimmie Åkesson, the leader of this party, for the first time a good year after meeting Hédi Fried.

Now he has to negotiate the price for supporting the right-wing populists with Åkesson. It can’t be easy, Swedish Democrats have risen to become the second strongest force in parliament – Kristersson’s moderates are only in third place.

Fazio, my criticism of your media chocolate Primocanale

gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==

GENOA – Dear Fabio, I am writing to you,

I do this unfairly assuming a confidential tone, fruit of those who started the job of journalist, also by studying your live broadcasts on Sunday afternoons almost 30 years ago.

It is inevitable to think of you after days of paging, obvious and natural, for your good gesture of guaranteeing the historic Varazzina Chocolate Factory a solid future in the post-Covid crisis, for its collaborators in even greater numbers than in the past .

Only time decides the success of individual companies, but I have no doubt that together with your partners it will be another success.

However, when I hear you repeatedly speak of a gesture of love towards your grandparents, with a special devotion to the children of today’s Varazze, I have to confess an aspect that simply does not return to me, a proud villager.

I say this as a Ligurian reporter who has made his professional commitment the North Star by focusing on a journalistic struggle together with Primocanale to give equal dignity to Pentema and Alassio, Recco and Arenzano, Varazze and Portofino.

Here’s the point you already got.

But why does someone like you, presenting the world with such an ambitious project for your hometown, have to go straight to the Piazzetta and refrain from inviting the number one in international cuisine and pastry, with an attached media parade, to the factory’s headquarters in Varazze?

Why not take such an opportunity to show how this municipality has recovered from the terrible floods of 2010, what tourism future is on the horizon after an industrial past that has never been given up and, for example, what an extraordinary paradise it is for surfers from all over world has become Europe?

After all, Fabio Fazio doesn’t need a Portofino and, no offense, not even the opposite. But Varazze yes.

Furthermore, I don’t think that for someone like you, the simple justification of marketing and a brand “Portofino”, undisputed driving force for all Liguria, could be worthwhile.

Sincerely I greet you,

aware that the lines above are indicated to you provincialotte. I am! Fully convinced that our land will only be born by increasing the differences between the 234 villages that form it from Ventimiglia to Sarzana and passing through Varazze.
