Elon Musk’s college friend has raised $165,000 by auctioning off personal belongings and photos from their time together to help pay for her stepson’s college tuition.
Jennifer Gwynne, 48, of South Carolina, posted a birthday card from the Tesla billionaire — on which he calls her “Boo-Boo” — that sold for $16,643, a dorm room pic of Musk lying upside down for $21,889 and a $14,000 gold necklace Musk gave her in 1994 for $51,008 among other items.
Gwynne also sold 18 separate photos of her and Musk during their college romance at the University of Pennsylvania, including pictures of her and Musk dining out and hanging out with friends.
The couple dated for a year in 1994 when they were both resident counselors in the same dorm. Musk dropped it after he graduated and moved to California, although Gwynne said it was a “waste of time” to keep in touch by phone.
“We broke up just before he started taking over the world,” Gwynne said.

After leaving UPenn in 1995, Musk attended Stanford — but only for two days. Musk recently posted this photo — which sold for $9,375 — as his Twitter profile picture

The photo was taken by Musk’s mother, Maye, according to auction house RR Auction. She took the photo during a trip to visit her son in Philadelphia.
“As far as I can remember, the three of us wanted to go to New York to see the musical ‘Tommy.’ The whole trip was a lovely gift from Maye,” Gwynne told the auction house.
“But just as we were about to leave, something broke on Elon’s car. So we spent about five hours at an auto parts store so Elon could fix the problem himself. He has. We made it to NYC and had a wonderful time.’

“We wanted to see Pulp Fiction on one of our first dates off campus,” reads a description of Gwynne on the auction house’s website.
Though the tech titan and his college girlfriend haven’t spoken to each other since their split 27 years ago, Musk updated his Twitter profile picture to one of him, which was auctioned off in an apparent show of support.
The image shows a 23-year-old Musk from 1994 wearing a Judge Dredd t-shirt in a study room on the fourth floor of one of the Quad Towers at the University of Pennsylvania. It sold for $9,375.
Gwynne came up with the idea of auctioning off the photos and items she had carefully kept for many years after reading about an auction of test papers, which Musk had given a simple “EM.”
She realized that the memorabilia she had in her possession were of far greater value to fans of the richest man in the world.

Gwynne, who is now married with a stepson and lives in South Carolina, told DailyMail.com that their romance is “cute” but lacking in affection or “PDA” – because Elon has largely resisted either.
They split when he moved to Palo Alto in 1995, around the same time he was getting serious with his first wife Justine, who he also dated behind her back, she says.
“We met in the fall of 1994. I was a junior and he was a senior…we were in the same dorm and we worked together.
“I was first drawn to his shy nature… he used to be my type,” Gwynne said. She described Musk as “sweet, kind, smart and engaging”.
At the time, she was a budding entrepreneur bursting with ambition and ideas. She said she “always knew” he would “go far.”
“He was very intense, very focused on his studies. Back then he was always talking about electric cars… he definitely wanted to go somewhere. He only saw school as a stepping stone.”
The photos show the couple on road trips, sipping champagne and hanging out with friends.

While defying “PDA,” Gwynne reveals that he convinced her with a Chinese takeaway from a local off-campus restaurant called Beijing.
“When he’s courting you, you know he’s interested, but he wasn’t very affectionate.
“We were physical when we needed to be … but there was no hand-holding or anything like that. He liked being together. He just liked having someone with him, someone supporting him.’
She describes visiting his mother Maye – a “wonderful and stunning woman” – when she was living in Toronto, and also meeting Elon’s siblings Kimbal and Tosca.
‘[Maye] was wonderful, very sweet, very kind and really engaged me in conversations. She was wonderful.
“She came to Philadelphia at the end of the school year and took us to New York to see Tommy on Broadway.”
She never met his father Errol but remembers Elon telling her they don’t get along.
