Kate carried a snazzy holdall, a white tote bag and her cell phone for the trip.

Ritchie exceeded the limit after she was stopped by police in her blue Subaru station wagon for a random breath test on August 22.

She was arrested immediately and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where she underwent a secondary breath analysis, which returned a positive 0.06, just a touch above the legal limit of 0.05.

Violence against animals is rampant on Instagram

Violence against animals is rampant on Instagram

More than six dogs are placed on a dying boar in a video from an Instagram account dedicated to hunting. In the harsh images, the animal can be seen bleeding while being attacked by the dogs, and they are accompanied by text that glorifies the ferocity of the attacking dogs: “The security they give me in the grips will not paid with money.” writes the owner of the account. There are dozens of pages and profiles on Instagram or Facebook that, according to the Franz Weber Foundation, explicitly spread content about “maximum cruelty” towards animals in Spain.

This organization dedicated to the defense of animals has been analyzing public Instagram profiles open to any user for more than six months and has infiltrated others of a private nature, limited to followers, to verify the veracity of accounts who spread this kind of pictures. Foundation spokesman Rubén Pérez assures that no content has been removed from Instagram, despite the videos showing open wounds, tears and animal suffering and despite the fact that they were reported using the platform’s form. . “We see on Instagram that in practice there is no kind of control, they give free rein to these instincts and it is also accompanied by comments or texts that emphasize this violence. They basically turn dogs into killing machines,” he explains.

Attorney Ana Mula, who specializes in environmental law, explains that these practices can lead to a misdemeanor and even to animal cruelty offences. Mula assures that, according to the Autonomous Community, the administrative sanctions can be up to 200,000 euros. “It is a very severe sanction and is accompanied by precautionary measures during the proceedings, which can be deprivation of keeping animals and confiscation of animals.”

In one of the profiles of a hunter on Instagram, a calf in an enclosure is bitten by a hunting dog for no apparent reason. Another report shows a dog with a torn neck. The description of the photo, like that of other profiles, praises the fierceness of this breed of dog trained for hunting called Spanish Alano, which is characterized by its ability to bite when attacking its prey. The Franz Weber Foundation, which calls these images “sadistic,” asserts that Instagram has not removed these pages, despite their claims. According to the incident, the platform’s response was, “We have determined that it does not violate our community standards.”

In fact, many of these Instagram profiles are also dedicated to selling specimens of this breed and using the videos to promote their aggressiveness. According to the spokesman for the Franz Weber Foundation, using social networks in this way can be considered illegal breeding because it does not meet legal requirements. “They had litters and gave them out to other people for a fee. And we can say that they also used Instagram as a promotional method to publicize these litters, taking advantage of the alleged advantages that these dogs had for hunting or capturing cattle,” Pérez explains the analyzed profiles.

According to Mula, this depends on the regulations of the particular Autonomous Community where the violation is committed, as he states that there are 17 animal welfare laws, one for each Autonomous Community. “Currently there is no homogeneity and there is differential legal treatment,” he claims. For Pérez, being sanctioned in Catalonia with a stricter law is not the same as in other municipalities like Castilla-León or even Castilla-La Mancha. “The Castilla-La Mancha case is also notable because the regional animal welfare law excludes hunting dogs,” he says.

At the state level, the Animal Welfare Act currently being debated in Spain’s Parliament envisages banning these practices and restricting the breeding of hunting dogs to professional breeders. However, this Tuesday the PSOE registered an amendment to exempt hunted animals from regulations which, if approved, would limit the new legislation to pets. As the amendment itself states, wild animals would have this case “with their own legislation as set out in the National Game Management Strategy”

On the part of the Franz Weber Foundation, they reject this change and claim to be in talks with other parliamentary groups such as Más País, Esquerra Republicana, Compromís, EH Bildu and others in order to establish an opposite position. According to Pérez, if the change is passed, it will not be possible to sanction people who raise these hounds in this way and use Instagram to promote their aggressiveness with violent images. The organization’s spokesperson believes this change would also prevent the protection of the dogs themselves, as they could be injured in these practices. “At this time there is no sanction for the hunter as it is assumed that these are normal situations. The new law states that if you abandon a dog, you are responsible for what might happen to him,” says Pérez.

Likewise, Mula defends that the future law is an opportunity so that owners of dogs dedicated to herding, guarding and hunting are not left out of obligations and can prosecute and sanction bad animal practices. “When fighting these animals, you would have to be more sophisticated,” says the lawyer.

In this sense, the spokesman for the Franz Weber Foundation calls for better control systems to prevent these practices: “We cannot always get civil society to spend hours looking on a social network to see whether this can be a criminal offense or not.”

In Lebanon armed customers rob banks to get their own

In Lebanon, armed customers rob banks to get their own money

A woman with a gun and some employees briefly held hostages at a branch of BLOM Bank in the capital Beirut before taking more than $13,000 in cash from their accounts, a depositor advocacy source said.

Shortly after, in the mountain town of Aley, a gunman entered a Bankmed branch and retrieved some of his trapped life savings before turning himself in to authorities, Depositors Outcry and a security source said.

Lebanese banks have excluded most depositors from their savings since an economic crisis hit three years ago, leaving much of the population unable to pay for basic necessities.

In a phenomenon that illustrates the emergency, Wednesday’s robberies came after a man robbed another bank in Beirut last month to withdraw money to treat his ailing father.

BLOM Bank said a customer and accomplices came with a gun, threatened to set people on fire and forced the branch manager and treasurer to get money from a safe.

“Nothing Left to Lose”

Before she went into hiding, the woman, Sali Hafiz, told local news channel Al Jadeed TV the gun was a toy and she needed the money for her sister’s cancer treatment.

“I have nothing left to lose, I’ve come to the end of the road,” she said. A visit to the bank manager two days ago did not bring an appropriate solution.

Why a hostage-taker in Lebanon was celebrated as a national hero

“I was at a point where I wanted to sell my kidney so my sister could be treated.”

BLOM confirmed that the client asked for her money for her sister’s treatment and said she was offered full cooperation and asked to provide documentation.

“All we have is this money in the bank. My daughter was forced to take this money – it’s her right, it’s in her account – to treat her sister,” her mother Hiam Hafiz told local television.

The authorities did not immediately comment on the incidents.

Bankmed did not comment on its branch robbery.

After last month’s robbery, which also involved hostages, the accused perpetrator was arrested but then released without charge after the bank dropped its lawsuit.

A senior Lebanese banker said on condition of anonymity it was a worrying precedent.

“I think that’s an invitation for other people to do the same. As long as people can get away with it, they’ll keep going. What a failed state,” said the banker.

Banks say they make exceptions for humanitarian cases, including hospital treatment, but depositors say it rarely happens.

The expansion of the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin is suspended and awaiting approval

The Tesla Gigafactory Berlin sees its expansion caught up in German bureaucracy again as the vote to approve the project has been suspended, but it still looks like the vote should take place by the end of the year.

The automaker’s experience building Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas simultaneously has set the tone for Tesla’s future factory projects.

The key takeaway is that the automaker wants a simpler approval process — something closer to what it’s seen in Texas than in Germany, where Tesla experienced multiple delays due to regulatory approval.

For a potential factory coming to Canada, Tesla has urged the government to help negotiate with the provinces for a faster permitting process.

Tesla is currently ramping up production at the Gigafactory Berlin from 1,000 vehicles per week to a target of 5,000 vehicles per week by the end of the year.

To support further capacity expansion, Tesla plans to develop another 100 hectares to build a freight depot, train station, training center and kindergarten, as well as other logistics areas to support production.

The expansion project was supposed to be presented to Grünheide, the town near Berlin where the Gigafactory is located, but Arne Christiani, Mayor of Grünheide, confirmed that it was delayed.

Germany’s RBB confirms (translated from German):

At the beginning of June, the Grünheide main committee approved the plans of the US electric car manufacturer to expand its factory premises and recommended that the municipal council initiate a procedure for a new development plan. However, Christiani took the item off the agenda shortly before the municipal council meeting. “There is still a need for clarification,” he said at the time. “That’s why the development plan is not on the agenda of the next meeting,” Christiani explained on Wednesday. He could not estimate whether the topic would be dealt with this year.

As with the original project, regulators often asked Tesla for more information, leading to multiple approval delays.

It looks like a vote on approving the expansion of the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin will take place later this year. It’s unclear at this point whether this will impact Tesla’s production ramp-up schedule.

While Tesla is targeting 5,000 vehicles per week by the end of the year, the automaker has significantly bigger ambitions for the plant. It has previously said it could produce up to 1 million vehicles a year at the factory.

Jimmy Kimmel apologizes to Quinta Brunson for ‘stupid comedy bit’ at Emmys

“People said I stole your moment” Kimmel told Brunson. “And maybe I did, and I’m very sorry if I did. I’m really sorry I did that. And also the last thing I ever want to do is piss you off because I think of you so much. I think you know that. I hope you know that.”

Brunson told Kimmel, as she did backstage after her win, that what she remembered most about the moment was her joy — not bad feelings about him being on the floor during her acceptance speech for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series lay.

“Well, Jimmy, let me just say thank you. It’s very kind of you to say that,” she said. “I was honestly in one of those moments where I was just having a good time. Like I won my first Emmy. I was happy up there and I was wrapped up in the moment and just having a good time.”

Kimmel presented Brunson’s category with Will Arnett dragging Kimmel onto the stage and joking that Kimmel “got into the skinny margaritas” at the theater’s bar after losing in a previous category.

After the Abbott Elementary creator and star was announced as the winner for writing the popular sitcom’s pilot, Kimmel stayed at the bottom of the mic stand. He stayed there during Brunson’s acceptance speech and into the commercial break, a total of almost two minutes.

Kimmel remained off-camera for the duration of Brunson’s speech, which lasted about a minute.

While Kimmel’s opening monologue On Wednesday night, Brunson had some time to say a few more words of thanks after taking the stage and asking for the favor, joking that “sometimes you have less time (on stage) because someone has a silly comedy that goes on a little too long.”

“I’ve heard about it for the past few years,” Kimmel replied before allowing her to speak.

On Monday night, after the internet began to buzz with anger at Kimmel, Brunson was gracious to Kimmel backstage in interviews with press after the win, telling reporters that the part “didn’t bother me that much,” adding, that Kimmel was too early a supporter of her and Abbott Elementary.

“Tomorrow I might be mad at him. I’ll be on his show on Wednesday so I might smack him in the face,” she joked.

Of course, that would not have been an instructive moment.

Abbott Elementary returns for a new season on September 21 on ABC.

Allen Lazard returns to training for Packers ready to get

Allen Lazard returns to training for Packers ready to ‘get back on track’

When rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs made their NFL debuts last week and veteran Sammy Watkins made his Packers debut, it was only a partial transition to the new era without Lazard as the lead.

“It’s always good to have him out there, the talent,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said of Lazard’s return to practice. “But it’s the leadership part that you miss when it’s not out there.”

Lazard did what he could from the sidelines in Minneapolis, coaching the rookies to play fast and not hesitate with their routes. Because in his experience, it can cause Rodgers to become indecisive, throw off play timing and turn his eyes elsewhere just before someone might leave.

He also tried to keep Watson’s spirits up after dropping a possible 75-yard TD pass on the Packers’ first offensive play. Lazard tried to keep it easy but also real for the second-round speedster in the immediate episode.

“I was like, ‘It’s a drop. Who cares? Stereotypical first game of your NFL career — a go-ball you let go through your hands,'” Lazard said, repeating the tongue-in-cheek comment before getting down to business related message. “‘Yeah, it sucks right now, but you’re going to get a thousand more opportunities to capitalize, so don’t dwell on the moment and stay positive and know that 12 will come back to you.'”

As a receiver that’s always been lower down the depth chart prior to this year, Lazard knows what he’s talking about in terms of being ready whenever Rodgers might come your way.

So he’s gotten where he is, from one game and reception in 2018 to an expected finish now, so there’s no reason to change his approach as we start his new year. He’s also been a #1 recipient before, in high school and college, even when there were question marks about the label back then, so that’s nothing new either.

Consider him as ready as ever as long as his ankle is playing along.

“I think it’s just confidence, never doubting yourself, never making a playoff,” he said. “Never being satisfied with ‘Oh, I’m behind in this play,’ or ‘Oh, he’s just never going to throw it at me in this play.’ Just always expecting it, always wanting the ball, always wanting that moment in play that decides if it’s positive or negative, or going from a 15-yard gain to a touchdown or whatever.

“I’ve always been proud of my work, as I’ve always said, and of doing my best to help the team win.”
