(CNN) — Prince Harry is expected to go into more detail about his life inside and outside of the royal family in an upcoming televised interview with Britain’s ITV, in which he said: “I want a family, not an institution.”
In a preview of the interview published on Monday, the Duke of Sussex said: “They have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,” presumably referring to the split from the royal family, which he described in a Netflix documentary, which was released last month.
“I would like to get my father back. I want my brother back,” he tells journalist Tom Bradby in the interview clip to be aired on ITV1 this Sunday 8 January at 9pm UK time (4pm ET).
Prince Harry also did an interview with Anderson Cooper for the CBS series 60 Minutes, which also airs Sunday.
Asked why he has revealed the details of his family split so publicly, Prince Harry suggests the royals were spreading negative media reports about him and his wife Meghan Markle.
“Every time I’ve tried privately, there have been briefings, leaks and stories against me and my wife,” Prince Harry Anderson Cooper said in an interview preview clip. “You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain,’ but it’s just a motto.”
Cooper replied, “There are many complaints and many explanations … made by leaks.”
Prince Harry replied that Buckingham Palace “feeds the correspondent or chats with him. And this correspondent will literally spoon up information and write the story. And at the end they will say they contacted Buckingham Palace” for comment. But the whole story is a commentary on Buckingham Palace. So if for the past six years we’ve been told, ‘We can’t make a statement to protect you.’ But they do it for other family members, there comes a point where silence is a betrayal.
