The new generation of high-end chips from Qualcomm, carried by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, is convincing across the board. Samsung has collaborated with the American founder to offer an upgraded version of the SoC labeled “For Galaxy” for its new Galaxy S23. In fact, these models reserved for the South Korean giant run at a slightly higher frequency than the regular version.
In fact, the CPU part of the “For Galaxy” version is clocked at 3.36 GHz, versus 3.2 GHz for the standard version. The graphics part (GPU) also benefits from a small acceleration of 719 MHz instead of the usual 680 MHz. Overall, this means about 5% more power. This therefore remains rather negligible, even if the Galaxy S23 is actually among the most efficient mobile phones on the market, even among the models equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
However, this advantage could disappear. According to the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority), this “For Galaxy” SoC will soon be available for all other brands. It is therefore easy to imagine that the companies that launch their products at the end of the year will benefit from this. This could be the case, for example, with Xiaomi, whose catalog is constantly growing, or with Asus, which would take full advantage of a ROG model for gaming.
This shouldn’t affect Samsung too much, however, as the company has had ample time to use it as a genuine marketing argument. Even if the gain is not significant, the fastest version of the SoC should spread quickly in the Android market.
