The injuries thwarted the plans of the organization and its director, Valérie Tétreault.

“If you look at the rankings, the situation has not developed in the right direction compared to where we were when we started planning the tournament in January or February.

“At the time we thought Bianca and Leylah could rank in the main draw, which would have allowed for two more Canadian women [d’être] In the picture.”

Interesting

However, it is not certain that at least one other Canadian will go straight into the peloton due to cancellations.

“It will be interesting to see if Bianca could ever step in after a few deductions,” said Valérie Tétreault with interest. She’s five outs away from securing a spot in the main draw.

“That means you have to make a decision because when we look at the Canadian rankings it gets harder. There’s Katherine Sebov, Carol Zhao and a little further away a certain Eugenie Bouchard.

Sebov is currently 157th, Zhao is 166th and Bouchard is 221st.

Not confirmed

In addition, the Montreal native has not yet confirmed her participation in the qualifiers.

“In a little less than a week we will have the qualification list,” specifies Tétreault. Players still have a few days To. I know she was looking forward to the tournament in Montreal. I hope that also means that she wants to participate in the qualifiers.

“Of course she would be the big headliner on the first weekend. It’s been a long time since we saw her in Montreal so I’m keeping my fingers crossed but it’s not official yet.”

If we read between the lines, maybe she could get a pass if one becomes available.

“Most of the time the passes go to the development team who look at the standings and the latest results. It has happened in the past that the tournament has interfered to make a decision that was perhaps more for the benefit of promoting the tournament. None are available at the moment so we are not in those talks yet.

Eagles Jalen Carter UGA Athletic Association sued by former Georgia

Eagles’ Jalen Carter, UGA Athletic Association, sued by former Georgia recruiter for Jan. 15 crash – The Athletic

Former Georgia recruiter Victoria Bowles has filed a lawsuit against the UGA Athletic Association, Philadelphia Eagles freshman Jalen Carter and the estate of the team’s late recruiter Chandler LeCroy, according to documents filed in state court of Gwinnett County.

Bowles was a backseat passenger who survived the Jan. 15 car crash that killed Georgia offensive players Devin Willock and LeCroy, hours after Georgia celebrated its second straight national championship with a parade on campus. Carter was charged by police with racing the SUV driven by LeCroy, which crashed. A police investigation following the accident concluded that “lack of alcohol, racing, reckless driving and speed were significant contributors to the accident.”

The lawsuit alleges Carter, who was drafted ninth in the April NFL draft, “did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the accident” and illegally departed from the scene of the accident.

“Carter left the scene in less than 10 minutes when a UGA player at the scene yelled at him, ‘Yo…hey, JC…you might want to go ahead and fuck yourself…” (as in the background of Willock’s automated 911 call on the iPhone can be heard),” the lawsuit reads.

Carter pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing on March 16. He was sentenced to a 12-month suspended sentence, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service. He must also complete a state-approved driving course.

The lawsuit also alleges negligence by the UGA Athletic Association, which stated in a statement, among other things, that “rental vehicles should be returned immediately upon completion of recruiting duties.”

“On the night of the championship celebration, LeCroy informed Ms. Bowles that (LeCroy) had ‘permission’ to keep the SUV ‘until tomorrow,'” the lawsuit reads. “The UGA Athletic Association issued a public statement following the accident claiming that ‘rental vehicles should be turned over immediately upon completion of recruitment duties’. Numerous text messages from HR managers to LeCroy, Ms. Bowles and other employees show that the association’s statement is false. Recruitment staff were regularly informed that they could park their private vehicles overnight at the Butts Mehre football ground and could freely use Association rental vehicles up to a specific deadline and time, regardless of their assigned recruitment duties.”

The lawsuit also alleges that the UGAAA acted negligently in allowing LeCroy to operate the SUV in the first place. Lawyers for Bowles said sports officials are aware that “LeCroy had at least four speeding tickets, including two ‘superspeeder’ violations under Georgia law.”

“The UGA Athletic Association would have reasonably concluded that LeCroy regularly drove at extreme speeds in the absence of law enforcement,” the lawsuit reads. “While LeCroy may have been legally intoxicated, street racing and extreme speed were the proximate causes of the accident. That the Association negligently entrusted the large rental SUV to LeCroy, knowing full well that she was a reckless and habitual speedster, is consistent with LeCroy’s primary negligence – driving at 104.2 miles per hour.”

The lawsuit states that LeCroy’s supervisor Logen Reed had “personal knowledge” of the October 30, 2022 Super Speeder ticket issued to LeCroy because Reed was in the vehicle at the time the ticket was issued.

The UGA Athletic Association responded in a statement: “We are continuing to investigate the complaint as plaintiff’s counsel has decided to first disclose it to the media before communicating it to us. Based on our preliminary examination, we dispute his claims and will vigorously defend the Athletic Association’s interests in court.”

The lawsuit alleges that Bowles paid more than $171,500 in medical expenses. Her injuries include ten broken ribs, a broken collarbone, kidney and liver tears, a punctured and collapsed lung, and a closed head injury. She also developed arachnoiditis, which is typically a permanent neurological condition with no cure that often results in paralysis, the lawsuit states.

This is the second lawsuit against the UGA Athletics Association related to the crash, after Willock’s father sued the UGAAA, Carter and other defendants in May. Willock’s father is seeking up to $40 million in damages.

1689333674 Pierre Luc Dubois has not forgotten Rimouski

Pierre-Luc Dubois has not forgotten Rimouski

RIMOUSKI – New Los Angeles Kings color holder Pierre-Luc Dubois hasn’t forgotten Rimouski, his childhood town, where he played hockey on the side while his father Éric was an assistant coach with the Océanic from 2013-2016.

“When I was young, we moved a lot because of my father’s career. I spent a year in France. I was then living in Baie-Comeau and Rimouski. I went to school in Mont-Joli to participate in the AA hockey program. Then I played Midget AAA in Rivière-du-Loup,” says the 25-year-old athlete, who was back in Rimouski on Thursday for the presentation of his foundation’s golf tournament.

How important it is to get involved

Pierre-Luc is aware that playing hockey is too expensive for some families. For this reason, he expressed his desire to help disadvantaged families by lending equipment through his foundation.

“When I got to the National League, I knew I wanted to get involved and I wanted to do it at Rimouski. Hockey taught me a lot. My father always told me that it was a great school, that you met extraordinary people with great stories. He was right. I still remember very well that I wanted to play hockey with players from 5 to 50 years old on outdoor rinks in Rimouski. We were all there for fun. That’s when I realized that some young people couldn’t form teams because they didn’t have the equipment.

Pierre-Luc Dubois spoke to reporters on Thursday morning.

The continuation of the work of Vincent Lecavalier

Pierre-Luc Dubois took over the foundation from Vincent Lecavalier in 2020. “I knew his foundation well. I played tournament golf for several years when I was young. My dad used to take me there,” he said.

“It all started in Bas-Saint-Laurent. This place will always be special to me. This foundation means a lot to me. I hope to be able to help as many young people in the region as possible.”

“Over the years, the foundation has raised more than $1.3 million. Through sponsorship and donations, we are able to provide hundreds of pieces of equipment to young hockey players in precarious financial situations,” said the Foundation’s President, René Gagnon.

In summary

Pierre-Luc Dubois says he didn’t receive an offer from the Montreal Canadiens. He’s particularly excited to play with his childhood idol Anze Kopitar for the Kings and doesn’t mind that the team has three top centers in Kopitar, Philippe Danault and himself. Pierre-Luc’s father, Éric Dubois, was selected in the fourth round by the Nordiques in 1989. He never played in the NHL. He has been an assistant coach with the Manitoba Moose of the American League since 2016.

The Messi brand and the great excitement it created upon his arrival in Miami

For many, it’s not enough that Messi is the best player in the world. The Argentine, who won the World Cup wearing the Albiceleste shirt last year, started a new stage in his career and had no better idea than to enter the North American market with his own Hamburger. Hours before attending training sessions at his new home, Inter Miami, La Pulga caused quite a stir on social media and by appearing in some pretty slick commercials.

The Hard Rock restaurant chain, in collaboration with the Inter Miami star and a clear Argentine gastronomic inspiration, has created a hamburger called Leo Messi Chicken Sandwich: the Milanese.

The arrival of the “10” in the MLS is already making itself felt in the United States and the “Yankee” market is embracing Leo with everything his character represents for consumption. Messimania is on the surface and has invaded one of the bastions of American identity like the Hamburgers.

After that, many awaited his official presentation, scheduled for this Sunday, to see him in his new club’s shirt. However, Lio surprised everyone when he arrived in the city for his first training session at Inter, on orders from Gerardo Martino.

“Leo has met his new teammates, while his acquaintances from Barcelona, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who have not yet been officially announced, have not yet arrived,” said the international sports network ESPN.

Moreover, it has been reported that in the next few hours Messi will sign with the MLS club, which will try to move out of the bottom of the championship standings with La Pulga.

The world champion received a special welcome from his teammates when he was christened with the famous tunnel where they clapped to the new team players. With that he would have officially opened the stage of the best player in the world North America.

It should be noted that Busquets is not yet in the squad and will also be officially unveiled along with Messi on Sunday, while Jordi Alba has not yet been announced by the club, although the media have already assured that the deal is finalized and he will be too be a soccer player. sooner or later the heron.

And it wouldn’t be the only one, because it was revealed that the “Tata” Martino demanded that the next reinforcements should be under 23 years old, since in the MLS those under that age have no influence on the salary limit.

Bayern Munich make second transfer offer for Tottenham forward Harry

Bayern Munich boss Jan-Christian Dreesen meets Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in London – The Athletic

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen met Tottenham CEO Daniel Levy for breakfast in London on Thursday.

No offer was made at the meeting for Harry Kane, nor was a price given after Bayern made their first bid for the England striker last month as the two clubs enjoy a good relationship.

In June, Tottenham turned down an offer from Bayern of €70m plus surcharges for Kane.

Kane’s contract with Spurs has one year left and the club are still hoping to persuade him to extend it.

Bayern are on the hunt for a new striker this summer, with head coach Thomas Tuchel already in talks with Kane about a potential move.

The striker signed up for the first day of pre-season with Tottenham on Wednesday and is due to fly to Perth, Australia with the rest of the squad on Friday.

Kane’s contract negotiations with Tottenham were put on hold last season as the forward instead focused on helping the club return to the Champions League.

However, the Spurs missed out on European football altogether with an eighth place finish.

Kane is yet to win a trophy at national or international level but broke Jimmy Greaves’ all-time goalscoring record at Tottenham in February when he scored his 267th goal for the club. The following month he became England’s record goalscorer.

Northwestern fires baseball coach Jim Foster after investigation reportedly uncovers ‘bullying and abusive behavior’ – Yahoo Sports

Northwestern fired baseball coach Jim Foster Thursday after an internal investigation found he had reportedly engaged in “bullying and abusive behavior.”

The decision comes three days after Northwestern fired longtime football head coach Pat Fitzgerald over a bullying scandal.

The university announced Foster’s dismissal in a statement from athletic director Derrick Gragg.

“Nothing will ever be more important to Northwestern than providing its students with a place that allows them to thrive in the classroom, in the community and competitively at the highest level and build a culture that allows our employees to thrive unfold,” the statement reads. “This was an ongoing situation and many factors were considered before arriving at this resolution.”

“As head of athletics, I take responsibility for hiring our head coaches and we will share our next steps with you as they develop.”

Foster’s firing comes after a report by the Chicago Tribune found that current and former players, alumni and those associated with the baseball program accused Foster of problematic behavior dating back to last fall when the freshman coach died program joined. The complaints sparked an internal investigation that found “sufficient evidence” that Foster “was involved in bullying and abusive conduct,” according to a university document seen by the Tribune.

According to the document, Foster “made an inappropriate comment about an employee and spoke negatively about his employees to other employees.” The document did not go into further detail about the complaints, the Tribune reports. Sources close to the show told the Tribune that Foster directed foul language-laced tirades at his staff and pressured players to return early from injury or risked losing their spots in the line-up.

Batting coach and recruiting coordinator Dusty Napoleon, pitching coach Jon Strauss and operations manager Chris Beacom all left the team over the course of the season before the allegations against Foster came to light. According to the Tribune, Northwestern finished this season at 10:40 and at the end of the season 16 players entered the transfer portal.

The Tribune published the report on Monday. Foster was released three days later.

Foster joined Northwestern in 2022 after six seasons as Army head coach. According to the university, assistant coach Brian Anderson will take over the program “during this transitional period.”

A mentoring role for Ryan OReilly in Nashville

A mentoring role for Ryan O’Reilly in Nashville

Ryan O’Reilly has long been recognized as one of the National Hockey League’s best defensive forwards and will seek to share his knowledge with the young Nashville Predators players.

The 32-year veteran was introduced to the Tennessee City media on Thursday, and what shines through is the centerman’s great composure. He was determined to make this new adventure a success after a turbulent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs and was pleased with the interest shown in him by the Preds staff.

“It’s great to be so desired and respected. Having such a role is exciting, said the man who accepted a four-year deal in an interview on Radio 102.5 & 106.3 The Game. Last year they had injuries but the young players who came in made an impression and almost took the team to the playoffs. It was really impressive.”

Learn

O’Reilly is optimistic enough to think the Predators could be a contender for the Stanley Cup. With a lot of experience in the playoffs, he can at least help the young talents in the formation to grow.

Juuso Parssinen, Luke Evangelista and Philip Tomasino are 22-year-old forwards who have shown great things during their time in Nashville and can continue to learn alongside the former St. Louis Blues captain.

“With the leadership of Roman Josi, Filip Forsberg and Juuse Saros and the young people who are knocking on the door, we are on the right track. “We could do something special here,” O’Reilly assured. We added [Gustav] Nyquist and [Luke] Schen. We’ll never be far [du sommet].”

Being a mentor is a family affair. His older brother Cal also joined the Predators organization on July 1st. It’s a homecoming for the 36-year-old forward, who has signed a one-year contract with the American League’s Milwaukee Admirals.

Ryan O’Reilly had 30 points in 53 games with the Blues and Leafs last season. He’s just nine games away from the 1000 career mark.
