Kyler Murray Ill be trainable but we all have to

Kyler Murray: I’ll be trainable but we all have to look in the mirror when it doesn’t work – NBC Sports

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear, but rehab hasn’t been his only focus this season.

Murray has also embraced a new offense following the firing of head coach Kliff Kingsbury. New head coach Jonathan Gannon hired Drew Petzing as his offensive coordinator and Murray spent the season off working in classes to understand the offense before returning to the field.

Murray’s work ethic was questioned last year when the Cardinals added a film study clause to his new contract – which was later dropped from the pact – and he said in an interview for the team’s internal video series that he is taking the new direction with open arms. Murray added that if Petzing’s initial approach doesn’t bear fruit, it’s up to everyone involved to make adjustments.

“I have to respect the person or understand the quirks or rhymes and reasons for what we’re doing,” Murray said of the team’s website’s Darren Urban. “I will listen. I’ll be trainable and do my best, but if that’s the case [expletive] doesn’t work, at some point we all have to look in the mirror. As far as I’ve progressed from my rookie year to now, I’ve learned to be one with my feelings and understand how to talk to people. Some people are capable of going the hard way, and I’m that way naturally, or do I have to show them a little love, and that’s part of being quarterback. . . . And what can I do better, how can I get better, how can I make the people around me better? It’s a team sport. We must all be locked up.”

Murray’s career faltered on several fronts last year and he’s confident getting through these difficult times will ultimately be a good thing for him and the team. The sooner the signs of this become apparent, the better for Murray, Petzing and everyone else who has invested in the organization’s future.

The Canadiens have just one more matter to settle

The Canadiens have just one more matter to settle

The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday morning that they have renewed the contracts of defenseman Nicolas Beaudin and forward Lucas Condotta, leaving only one file on the team’s management desk: that of Jesse Ylonen.

• Also read: Juraj Slafkovsky was transformed by science

• Also read: Dominique Ducharme is back in the NHL

Beaudin agreed to a one-year, two-part pact, while Condotta agreed to a two-year, also two-part pact.

These are big moves for the Canadiens because barring a big surprise at camp, Beaudin and Condotta will be signed to the Laval Rocket next season.

What role for Ylonen?

It will now be interesting to see which deal Ylönen will sign.

At 23 – he’ll be 24 in October – Ylönen still hasn’t managed to establish himself as a regular in the NHL. Last season he took part in 37 games for the big club, a career high.

The team’s second-round pick in 2018, however, maintained a solid offensive count in the American League, notching 32 points in 39 games last season.

The 2023-2024 season could be his last chance to prove to the Habs he has what it takes to become a regular in the best league in the world.

Oakland A calls up top contenders Tyler Soderstrom and Zack Gelof for second half – CBS Sports

2023 has been a miserable year for Oakland Athletics fans for a myriad of reasons and we don’t really need to dwell on it now because this is a happy update. According to MLB.com, the A’s are calling up two of their top three candidates to start the second half of the season. That would be a promotion to the show for both catcher/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom and second baseman Zack Gelof.

Back in January, CBS Sports youth expert RJ Anderson ranked Soderstrom as the A’s best youth player, while Gelof landed in third place.

On Soderstrom he said:

Scouts have loved Soderstrom’s bat ever since he was drafted with the 26th pick in 2020. Some reviewers even advocated removing him immediately from behind the plate to give him a chance to play to his full offensive potential. Athletics obviously did not share this opinion. They continued to play Soderstrom as a catcher, albeit while coaching him at first base. Though the A’s share Soderstroms defensive responsibilities up front (and the presence of Shea Langeliers on the depth chart would suggest it’s not a catcher most days), the tie here is its offense. He has a chance to become a plus hitter that is both average and heavy hitter.

Soderstrom actually split the time between catcher and first. In 69 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, he’s hit .254/.303/.536 with 15 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 59 RBI and 45 runs.

And to Gelof Anderson said:

Gelof, Oakland’s second-rounder in 2021, reached triple-A in his first full pro season after hitting .271/.356/.438 with 13 home runs in 87 double-A contests. The selling point here is that he has a large collection of solid to mediocre tools and a patient approach that allows him to draw walks. The downsides to Gelof’s game are that he may not have any other plus tool other than speed, and his eagerness to constantly work his way down resulted in a 27 percent strikeout rate. Adding in that Gelof’s arm might play on the light side, there are probably more downsides here than meets the eye.

Originally, Gelof was a third baseman, but last season he was between second and third baseman and was a full-time second in 2023. In 69 games for Triple-A Las Vegas, he hit .304/.401/.529 with 21 doubles, a triple, 12 homers, 44 RBI, 60 runs and 20 stolen bases.

The A’s open the second half of the season at home against the Twins on Friday.

He was also voted SHL’s Most Outstanding Swedish Junior Ice Hockey Player.

An Argentine journalist recounts that Guerrero and Gago had a

Just under a week ago, Racing Club announced that Paolo Guerrero has decided to terminate his contract, which expires at the end of this year. Although neither party has revealed the reason for this sudden departure from Argentina, various media outlets suggest that it was due to the Peruvian’s lack of continuity. However, journalist Flavio Azzaro recently reported that the Predator and DT Fernando Gago had a tense conversation, which may have been the reason for the sudden departure.

According to the Argentine communicator, it all started after Racing’s 3-1 loss to Boca Juniors at La Bombonera. This day, Paul Guerrero He was on the substitutes’ bench but was not used. Although Flavio Azzaro denied that the Peruvian forward was aiming for a clash with the Argentine coach, he specified that the ‘Predator’ felt ‘bastardized’.

“There were rumors that there was a quarrel after the game in which Fernando Gago hadn’t used Paolo Guerrero for a single minute at La Bombonera. Some even said Guerrero challenged him to a fight. That wasn’t true, Paolo Guerrero didn’t invite Gago to the fight but at one point he felt ripped off by Gago for not speaking to him for sending the helpers. And what did Paolo Guerrero do? He decided to talk to the coach,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“What he received from Gago and when Paul Guerrero He asked him why despite the fact that Maxi Romero didn’t score, he didn’t have any minutes even though Reniero wasn’t at 100%. Why don’t I play if the players aren’t better than me? what’s going on and why don’t you talk to me Paolo Guerrero is already hot and asked to speak to the race coach,” he added.

Fernando Gago replied to Paolo Guerrero

Faced with questions from Paul Guerrero because he didn’t know why he was substituted even though the other strikers weren’t doing well, Fernando Gago He was clear about him and indicated that he will continue to be the third option in attack and that his situation will not change in the short term.

“The racing coach replied that there was no place for Paolo Guerrero in his plan, that he likes Maximiliano Romero and that the situation would not change. “In the short term, Paolo Guerrero would have neither more nor fewer minutes,” said Azzaro.

MLB Power Rankings: After an intriguing start to 2023, what’s in store for baseball’s second half? – CBS Sports

The MLB All-Star break is about to end and we’re gearing up for a great second half of baseball. First, let’s take a quick look back at the first half of the season. Remember back in spring practice when some of the baseball fan base freaked out about the change, namely the pitch clock? Those concerns have fallen by the wayside for the vast majority of fans. As more than one player has pointed out over the past few months, the pace of play isn’t rushed, it just doesn’t progress at a snail’s pace.

Batting averages have gone up, runs per game have gone up, viewership has gone up, and average game time has dropped significantly. It seems to work for the general public:

  • The number of visitors increased by 8.06% compared to the previous year.
  • More than 1.5 million people attended for four consecutive weekends, the first time since 2017.
  • MLB.tv saw a 9% increase in minutes watched over last season.
  • The local ratings of the 29 US-based teams are up 3% despite all the problems with the local stations (RSNs).
  • An MLB poll found that 86% of people in the 18-24 and 25-34 age groups said the rule changes made them more likely to watch MLB, with a similar number of them more likely to attend games.

That means the product itself has a chance to captivate audiences and gain lifelong fans. There are tons of possibilities here, although we’ve limited them to just the team level.

  • Youngsters are always fun. The Reds are top of the NL Central and have not made the playoffs in a full season since 2013. The Marlins hold the top NL wildcard finish and have not made the playoffs all season since 2003. Few would have expected it. Diamondbacks are a strong contender, tied for first place in the NL West. Even fewer expected Rangers to be ahead of the defending champions in first place, but there they are. The Orioles are really strong and haven’t made the playoffs since 2016.
  • Big brands are helpful too. The Braves have won it all in 2021, winning over 100 games last season. They’re looking better than those two teams at the moment and they’re a lot of fun to watch. The Dodgers are tied for first place. The Astros are back in the playoff position. The Yankees are one game away from the last AL wildcard and the Red Sox are two behind. The reigning NL champions Phillies are a game behind. The Giants are in playoff position.
  • If the above group contains some bad guys in the eyes of many fans (particularly the Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros for different reasons), how about the lower-payroll guys who continue to thrive? The Guardians are once again first in the AL Central, while the Rays used a 13-0 start to propel them to the top of the mighty AL East all season.
  • Can any of the hyped preseason teams that failed pull off a miracle run? We’re talking about the Mets and/or Padres.
  • There’s all sorts of intrigue surrounding angels, and you know who.

And so much more! It’s possible the World Series champion wasn’t even mentioned considering the Brewers, Mariners, Twins and Blue Jays are all going head-to-head.

It’s going to be an incredibly entertaining and dare I say unpredictable second half of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. Let us begin!

Biggest movers

rk

teams

change

round

1

60-29

Remember when the Rays were the easy and obvious number 1 here every week for a while? The Braves reached the All-Star Break by a FOUR game lead over the Rays, setting the best record in baseball. A 27-5 run at the end of the first half will do that.

2

4

54-35

The Orioles have lost two games but are tied on the loss list. I will agree with them here for several reasons. First, they’ve gotten better over the past month and have added some new, young talent. Meanwhile, the Rays’ pitcher injuries are really starting to hamper them. If we wanted to see a head-to-head, the Orioles would win this fight three games to two. And finally, my last resort is the tiebreaker of who I think will win a seven-game series now. I would take the Orioles.

3

1

58-35

They lost seven out of eight games before the break and certainly felt they needed the rest. The Orioles are fucked too. The good news for the Rays is that they should have a soft landing here in the second half, starting with a three-game streak in Kansas City.

4

3

53-39

Unless they lose to the Braves (which isn’t a crime; everyone does), they just keep winning. And for the “unsustainable” folks who came to that conclusion by looking at running difference and nothing deeper: The Marlins are running plus-52 in their last 43 games. The season total is compounded by about four losses early in the season distorted. Are we really going to pretend that four games from the start of the season through May 3rd can predict the rest of the season? Look deeper. be better

5

3

51-38

Mookie Betts was .365/.471/1,039 with eight doubles, nine homers, 19 RBI and 18 runs in his last 15 games before the break. Ignore Home Run Derby performance. When it comes down to it, he’s on the heater.

6

3

52-39

Difficult end to the first half for Rangers as they took a 5-11 lead after June 23. They’re lucky to have gained so much cushion after a stellar start. This is a big homestand against three playoff-caliber teams (Guardians, Rays and Dodgers) at the start of the second half.

7

3

52-39

Let’s hope Corbin Carroll’s shoulder holds it together.

8th

3

50-41

Can a second wildcard team be a sleeping giant? Because they really do feel like a sleeping giant.

9

3

48-41

Kyle Schwarber hits .184 with 22 bombs. The only players to have ever hit the top 30 for home runs with a batting average under .200 are Joey Gallo (.199, 38 HR, 2021), Eugenio Suarez (.198, 31 HR, 2021), and Mark Reynolds (.198, 32 HR , 2010).

10

3

48-43

James Paxton and Brayan Bello are a very nice double whammy in the rotation right now, just like everyone thought it would be.

11

3

50-41

Ready to argue a home run derby fixed a player? Because Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is going to have a tremendous second half. Look, if you’re going to blame the derby every time a player suffers a setback afterwards, then it has to go both ways.

12

3

49-42

The Brewers have won 11 of their last 17 games before the break, including beating the Reds in two of three games. They will meet the Reds again in the second half.

13

3

50-41

The Reds lead the majors with 112 stolen bases. Elly De La Cruz has 16 in just 30 games.

14

3

49-42

For me, the offensive issues are down to Aaron Judge’s age (read: old), staffing and injury, but it will be interesting to see if Sean Casey makes a difference now as a hitting coach.

15

6

49-41

The Giants lost seven of their last 11 games before the break, but let’s face it: To have eight games over .500 right now is an overall positive.

16

3

45-44

Look what we have here! The Mariners are 7-2 in July with a plus-25 run difference and all three opponents are currently in the playoffs. Can they continue?

17

45-45

The Guardians were 5 1/2 games behind the Twins on June 2nd. As they continued to give way over the weeks that followed, all I could think was, We’ve seen this movie before.

18

45-46

Prior to this season, the lowest OPS in the first half of Carlos Correa’s career was .803. This season it was .700.

19

3

45-46

They were well on their way to being strong buyers before the close and – perhaps most importantly – could have avoided the trade talks with Shohei Ohtani. And then they lost nine of their last ten and Mike Trout got injured.

20

3

43-47

It is too late? Everything about this team screams that it should be much better. Five out of six wins before the break give reason for hope. However, they still have to get much hotter.

21

1

42-47

Cody Bellinger’s last 15 games before the break: .436/.467/.600. With the Cubs likely to be salesmen again, expect his name to be seen a lot over the next two weeks.

22

42-48

That six-game winning streak brought the Mets within a narrow margin of the playoffs, but losses in the last two games really hurt. It’s still possible, but they need to get really hot very quickly.

23

2

41-49

Paul Skenes definitely seems worth the fuss.

24

38-52

I had less than 89 wins for this group at the start of the season and it seems like it won’t be long before I win. I’m obviously the smartest man in the world.

25

39-50

There’s been a lot of bad news here about the big league squad in recent years, but let’s not sugarcoat Riley Greene. The fifth overall high school pick of 2019 is .305 with an OPS+ of 133 at age 22.

26

36-54

In his first 80 games this season, Joey Meneses hit two home runs. He had four hits in his last three games before the All-Star break.

27

38-54

Luis Robert has a season MVP type and is young enough to be at the heart of the franchise’s upcoming rebuild. I would trade almost anyone else on the MLB roster that would add value.

28

34-57

You’re well on your way to reaching 61-101. The franchise record for losses in a season is 98.

29

26-65

You’re well on your way to reaching 46-116. The franchise record for losses in a season is 106.

30

25-67

You’re well on your way to reaching 44-118. There has never been a season in which two teams have lost at least 111 games (there have been two teams with 110 losses twice, most recently in 2021).

Alex DeBrincat explains why the senators traded him

Alex DeBrincat reminds me of Elvis Gratton

As Elvis Gratton would say, “They killed the Americans.” Or as Denis Lemieux would say slap shot, “Me, I’m going to Florida est*&?, that’s the motto”.

Also read: Here is the tax rate for NHL players in each city

Also read: Kent Hughes must perform magic tricks to attract free agents

Also read: A few sleight of hand tricks to get free agents

That’s kind of what last year’s Alex DeBrincat or Matthew Tkachuk saga reminds me of.

I’m exaggerating or exaggerating a bit, but seriously, it’s not chic for Canadian teams what’s going on. It’s been 30 years since we won the Stanley Cup.

On top of that, if a lot of players decide they don’t want to play in Canada anymore, we’re going to be in trouble.

Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are spared. These are still quite prestigious markets. Edmonton is still going because of Connor McDavid. But for others it is not easy.

And in these last examples we are not talking about lazy clubs. We’re talking about good teams that have had some of their best players leave.

Patrick Laine did that with the Jets. Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau nailed it with the Flames.

And this is DeBrincat with the senators. He preferred signing a long-term contract in Detroit to Ottawa.

Frustrating for the senators

Imagine how the DeBrincat case only slowed down the senators’ beautiful recovery plan.

To get DeBrincat, the Senators traded last year’s seventh pick to the Blackhawks.

It’s Kevin Korchinski, a defenseman who had 73 points in 54 games with Seattle in the West Junior League last year. He ended the year at +50. I’m no fortune teller, but I don’t think he’s going to get any worse. Really not worse.

Many already know this, but by the way, DeBrincat was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2016, choosing the Canadian they sent to Chicago in exchange for Andrew Shaw.

No big deal, Marc Bergevin wanted sturdiness…

Ottawa doesn’t get much for DeBrincat because he, originally from that industry, wanted to play in Detroit. The hands of the senators were tied.

You’ll get Dominik Kubalik, a 40-50 point forward who’s good on the power play, as well as a defender who’ll likely never play in the National League, and a first-round pick who’ll be outside the top 10.

Alex DeBrincat

Choose your destination

Still, it’s still exciting for a hockey player to play for the Senators next year.

Stutzle, Giroux, Chabot, Sanderson, Chychrun, Norris, Batherson, Pinto and Korpisalo are coming… As a club it makes a lot of sense.

But no, DeBrincat didn’t like it anymore. He wanted to go play at home.

I will never buy his sweater. I find it boring for hockey in Canada. We do not need that.

Players have the right to refuse to join a team. But we have the right to be offended.

We can put ourselves in his shoes and understand. Ottawa can be boring. Or Calgary, it can be boring for Tkachuk.

Young players can live in Los Angeles, Florida, Vegas! You can choose.

They can also choose to play in places where they don’t have to speak to the media every day. Where the media don’t give a fuck about them.

Where they experience neither pressure nor criticism from the audience when they end the evening at -3 o’clock.

Where it’s warm all year round and you don’t need winter boots.

Where they don’t care about it in the supermarket.

You have every right to want anything in life.

Me, they are not my favorite players.

It’s like someone who starts their business and sells it for 40 to do nothing in Florida but play golf. It’s his choice, but he’s not my favorite entrepreneur.

It’s like all artists who don’t produce anything new after 35 years because they’ve made enough money to live on royalties in a perfect house in California.

Caufield and Hyman

I prefer Cole Caufield, fueled by the admiration of devoted Montreal fans.

I like Zach Hyman better who moved to Edmonton from Toronto and just scored 83 because he drives that energy of passionate markets too.

Alex DeBrincat

Cole Caufield file photo, Martin Chevalier

Granted, sometimes it’s difficult. In Montreal and Toronto, the public can be harsh. But I think Caufield and Hyman are putting a lot more pressure on themselves than the public is putting on them. In my opinion, this is a great athlete.

And when we talk about social networks, which is intense, that’s true, but at some point it takes a shell or ignorance.

It has become everything Tatas can write from their semi-basement. Most athletes have realized that you just have to stop looking at it.

It’s maybe more demanding in Toronto than anywhere else because of the media. But I hope! Introduce! It’s been 56 years since they won. The media wouldn’t be doing their job if they didn’t share the public’s discouragement.

And when you talk to me about taxes, that excuse becomes less and less valid. The difference isn’t that big, as our May report shows, which you can read here. And Canadian teams have devised strategies to make up the difference, particularly through endorsement deals.

In short, there are players who don’t care about the market they play in. You want to win. Others love the attention. Others are better because they care about their followers.

But for others, they do their job and prefer a certain anonymity in the depths of Columbus or in Florida.

All the better if they are happy. And all the better in the end. Because we don’t want them on our team.
