Immediately update your Chrome browser

The patch that giant Google has just released for its Chrome browser is serious because it affects the security of your entire computer system.

In fact, Google confirmed that a security breach had been detected on the networks and that means attacks were already underway.

This major update aimed at closing a vulnerability in Chrome affects almost every second person on our small planet, or 3.2 billion users.

The good news is that there is no confirmation that attackers are already exploiting the cybersecurity vulnerability at the heart of this update.

This update has build number 100.4896.75. Regardless of whether you are using a Windows, macOS or Linux system, go to the Chrome menu in the browser to start the download. This closely follows the historic version 100 update, which itself fixed about 28 security vulnerabilities.

Loss of control of your computer

The vulnerability just patched would have allowed a hacking website to literally take control of your computer system.

If executed, the attack would have redirected the victim to a malicious website where the takeover would be complete.

It is important to restart the Chrome browser after the update to complete the process.

Given the prevailing context of international tensions, computer attacks are likely to strike across the West. Therefore, it is important to quickly update your operating systems and any software that connects to the Internet.

Samsung A53 5G review: already a bestseller

Offered for less than 500 euros and equipped with almost everything you would expect from a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G has almost everything to offer.

A full year after the A52, Samsung returns to the mid-range market with the Galaxy A53. A far cry from the very high-end Galaxy S, the A series has established itself as the real thing for a number of years Benchmark for value for money. This year, Samsung is betting everything on 5G, with a complete and versatile smartphone that promises to become one of its best sellers as early as 2022.

Samsung, master of AMOLED

If there’s one point where Samsung doesn’t make concessions, it’s the screen. Even with a range that sells at half the price of the Galaxy S, the Korean brand is going all-in on one platter 6.5 pounds Super AMOLED Infinity-O and Full HD+and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. If these specifications don’t appeal to you, just know that they have nothing to envy to certain premium models: the Samsung Galaxy A53’s screen is beautiful, bright and unfailingly fluid.

The A53 immediately stands out as a very good option for those who regularly watch movies and series on their smartphone. With its excellent refresh rate, video games and browsing – especially on social networks – the smartphone screen allows a perfect display in all circumstances.

For the rest of its design, the Galaxy A53 presents itself as a pretty model without taking much risk and in line with the shift that Samsung has made since the S20. The equipment is obviously based on the Galaxy S, but without reaching it: Instead of a unibody aluminum back, we are content with a matte plastic case surrounded by a metal frame. Aside from the annoying tendency to catch fingerprints, the design succeeds as Samsung no longer has much to prove when it comes to the processing of its devices.

Autonomous, even without a charger

Samsung A53 5G box© Journal du Geek

As with the S range, the Galaxy A53 comes without a charger and now without headphones, with the brand complying with the latest European regulations. If this change does not affect the price in any way, then Samsung is switching to minimalism, primarily for ecological reasons. For the consumer, this primarily means thinner packaging. Compatible with “fast” charging up to 25 W, the device easily finds a charger among those lying around in your drawers. Let’s be honest, in 2022 we expected a little more at this level. It does indeed take an hour and a half for the phone to show 100% battery, which is still about adequate but not optimal. We also regret the lack of wireless charging and Powershare (reverse charging), still reserved for the brand’s high-end models. At just under 500 euros, the A53 has a hard time justifying this failure, which is a shame.

Samsung A53 5G benchmark© Journal du Geek

Despite this small disappointment, there is one point where the mid-range smartphone stands out and that is its autonomy. Samsung is rarely a good student in this area, but we have to admit that the A53 is the exception that proves the rule. With its 5000 mAh battery and its Exynos 1280 chipthe device holds up for the most part a day without mistakes. For the less greedy users, it can even take up to two days before it goes through the recharge box.

Powerful… and 5G compatible

If the Samsung Galaxy A53 does not logically benefit from the most powerful chips on the market, its Exynos 1280 processor engraved in 5 nm gives it one excellent stability and more than satisfactory performance. Equal to all the demands of everyday life, the smartphone easily manages a 3D game when the battery is used more intensively. Regulars of the Korean brand know it, the Game Booster mode, although expendable, also allows to optimize the performance of the smartphone by cutting off notifications to focus on the temperature and fluidity in the game.

Samsung A53 5G RAM+© Journal du Geek

Also a small novelty: for the first time in its history, Samsung offers Shared Memory on a Galaxy device, which consists in allocating part of the system memory (6 to 8 GB as needed) to “turn” it into RAM. The idea is interesting, especially since in use this translates into a real boost in performance, perfect for the most demanding users.

In terms of performance, Samsung is definitely giving up 4G to focus on 5G. A logical development, but one that is to be welcomed in a mid-range smartphone like the A53. Unsurprisingly, this choice comes with a significant increase in the entry price (€459 compared to €379 for the A52 4G last year). The game is still worth the candle, for a phone that should – we hope – serve us for a number of years.

Photo, a definite improvement

Samsung has long proven its talents in premium photography, now it’s making its mark on cheaper models too. In recent years, the Galaxy A range hasn’t had to prove itself much at this level, offering a very satisfying experience in terms of shooting. Without revolutionizing the genre, the A53 offers four sensors at the rear and a single selfie module at the front.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G APN© Journal du Geek

For outdoor shots in optimal lighting conditions, the main sensor of the Galaxy A53 fulfills its function wonderfully: from the top of its 64 Mpx, the wide-angle sensor does a very good job, both in terms of colorimetry and distortion. For more complex shots, it is supported by a 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle lens (f / 2.2), as well as two 5 Mpx modules intended for macro photography and portraits. On the front, the Samsung Galaxy A53 also offers a very good 32 Mpx selfie module.

With its 5 sensors, the A53 plays the number card, but also efficiency. As we said before, the overall quality of the recording is very good. Of course, don’t expect professional photos, especially with the ultra-wide angle or 10x zoom, which severely degrades the image quality. However, and provided you don’t ask too much of it, the result is suitable for most applications, even in low light, which is rare enough to be underlined.

Finally, on the video side, the main sensor of the Galaxy A53 offers maximum quality in 4K at 30 fps. A beautiful image quality and effective stabilization that will not make you the next Denis Villeneuve, but can immortalize the first steps of the youngest or your heroic deeds in the evening.

Interface and Connectivity

Compatible with 5G, the A53 also offers Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. In use, we still appreciate the Android 12 interface and the subtle One UI 4.1 overlay, which, unlike many of the competitors, knows how to play to its strengths without being intrusive. In use, this is particularly evident in efficient and ergonomic applications for specific daily tasks such as video games, note-taking or health monitoring. In conjunction with the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, the ergonomics are almost flawless. Regulars in the Samsung ecosystem won’t feel out of place, while others should be quick to appreciate the change.

Samsung A53 5G interface© Journal du Geek

In addition to all these good points, the A-range smartphone also offers a repairability index of 8.2/10, a very respectable mark, and – for the first time in its history – a Certification IP67usually reserved for the brand’s high-end models.

price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy A53 is offered in four colors (Black, White, Blue and Peach) and is available in two configurations: 8/128 GB and 8/256 GB. Since 5G is standard on the smartphone, the call price is logically slightly more expensive than the previous generation. number between €459 and €519 give you the device. The device has been on the market since April 1, 2022 and is already available on the official website and at most partner retailers.

a conference for the novelties of Apple

a conference for the novelties of Apple

It’s official: Apple will be holding its Major Developer Conference (WWDC) entirely online June 6-10, 2022. An unmissable event to discover the future novelties of the apple brand.

Summary

Apple has announced the dates for its next developer conference, the Worldwide Developers Conference. Unsurprisingly, like every year, it will be from the first Monday in June. So, although WWDC (sometimes called “deub deub” by friends because of the two Ws pronounced “deubeuliou” in English) is primarily aimed at developers of applications for all devices of the brand, it is one Treasure trove for the entire community of customers and fans of the brand, because during this event new versions of all operating systems are announced and presented: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. The biggest announcements are reserved for the opening conference, the famous keynote. With ambush likely this year, the last Mac model to make its transition to Apple Silicon’s “in-house” processors.

Note that this is the third year in a row that this WWDC is being held entirely online: in other words, no keynote will be broadcast live while the various Apple executives follow one another on stage. We are therefore entitled to a pre-recorded video presentation for the whole world to see simultaneously over the internet (see below). One small change though: Apple has announced that a selection of developers and students will be present at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple’s headquarters to see the same film on the big screen. June 6th will be dedicated to them and they can see and maybe test some of the announced new features on site. Some of the students present will receive a reward as part of the Swift Student Challenge, which for three years has allowed Apple to highlight young developers of applications developed in Swift, its programming language.

When is WWDC 2022?

Everyone is impatiently awaiting the new features that will be announced during the inaugural conference, the keynote, which will take place on Monday June 6th at 7pm French time. But we must not forget that WWDC actually lasts five days, from Monday June 6th to Friday June 10th, 2022. The conferences on the following days are less interesting for the general public because they are reserved for technical details that developers are very important to them, so that their applications make the best of new operating system features and all the new machines announced during the keynote (see below). Before the health crisis, only the keynote was broadcast publicly, while the following days’ conferences were reserved for those making the journey to California. As WWDC is conducted entirely remotely, all conferences are accessible. A wealth of information… but also dozens of hours to spend in front of your screen if you want to see it all!

The easiest way to watch the Worldwide Developers Conference opening address is to go to Apple’s YouTube page at youtube.com/apple. From a few days before the event, the date and time of the event will be announced on the homepage. You can even start watching without waiting: but of course you won’t see anything before the set time! However, every time thousands of people open the YouTube page in advance to make sure they don’t miss the launch. And the closer we get to 7 p.m., the larger the viewership. will you be a part of it Note that you can turn on subtitles in French.

Of course, you can also visit Apple’s website (apple.com/fr), whose home page gives you direct access to the broadcast video of the event. And if you’re also interested in the next few days’ conferences, you need to go to the developer page at developer.apple.com/fr. Do not hesitate to go there until June 6th: you will find an extensive catalog of videos in all areas of development.

What announcements are expected from WWDC 2022?

As always, ahead of the D-Day outcome of the Apple Developer Conference opening keynote, rumors are rife. As usual, Apple should announce the new versions of all its operating systems there: iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 (and the name that will succeed the current Monterey), watchOS 8 and tvOS 16. Very quickly after the presentation, the first Beta versions will be available for developers to install and test. A few weeks later, a so-called public beta version will be offered to all interested parties. Please note that this is a version to be used at your own risk!

Not infrequently, the WWDC is also an opportunity for Apple to announce new devices. So this year is expected to see the veil lifted over the very last device that hasn’t switched to Apple’s “house” processors, the Mac Pro. Something pretty rare, Apple even referenced it during the March 8, 2022 event announcing the very latest Mac Studios (read our article Mac Studio: a powerhouse for creatives). John Ternus, vice president of hardware, had dropped this brief sentence: “Our transition is almost complete, with the exception of one very last product, the Mac Pro. But that’s for another time.” So it will probably be June 6th. We know next to nothing about this new high-end machine, which will have the tough task of outperforming the already excellent Mac Studio. Perhaps it will be equipped with two M1 Ultra processors, which themselves already consist of two M1 Max processors. Will the new Mac Pro also differ from the Mac Studio in terms of internal expansion options, like the current Intel Mac Pro? So far no reaction. In any case, while this new Mac Pro will be unveiled at WWDC, we shouldn’t expect it to be available right away, but rather towards the end of the year. Those with the greatest power needs will have to be patient.

The extraordinary performance that we have come to expect from the next Mac Pro should be of particular interest to creators of 3D animations destined for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) worlds. We know that Apple has been working on a VR/AR helmet or glasses project for a long time. Perhaps WWDC 2022 is an opportunity for Apple to show a little more on the subject, although nothing is less certain at the moment.

a MediaTek chip would be considered

Samsung would consider offering three versions of its Galaxy S22 FE and S23. In addition to the usual Exynos and Qualcomm, MediaTek would be there.

MediaTek dimensionMediaTek Dimensity chips // Source: MediaTek

The end of a cycle for Samsung? According to the Business Korea website, the Seoul-based company is considering integrating MediaTek chips into the future Samsung Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23.

Phones with MediaTek chips would mainly focus on the Asian market. In Europe, we therefore expect to continue to see Samsung Galaxy S equipped with Exynos chips.

As Android Authority remembers, Samsung recently equipped one of its flagships with three different chips from 2011 and the Galaxy S2.

Why MediaTek is becoming more and more credible

Such news may seem surprising at first. Traditionally, the Korean giant opts for two chip suppliers, Qualcomm and Exynos (hence its own chip) for its high-end smartphones. MediaTek sees itself banished to certain mid-range models.

It’s a safe bet that the Taiwanese semiconductor maker’s recent rise with the unveiling of an impressive Dimensity 9000 could have changed the way Samsung executives look at the designer. Some newer chips deployed in the mid-range market have also proven very efficient, like the Dimensity 1200. The Exynos 2200’s few setbacks on its latest Galaxy S22 could also explain the search for a new partner.

In the high-end space, MediaTek still has everything to prove

As Business Korea reminds us, in 2021 MediaTek now has 26.3% of the market share, ranking second ahead of Apple (26%) and behind Qualcomm (37.7%). Samsung and its Exynos, found only on its own smartphones, have a 6.6% market share.

However, MediaTek still has very little presence on high-end models, with 95% of its sales coming from mid-range and entry-level devices.

To follow us, we invite you to download our Android and iOS application. You can read our articles and files and watch our latest YouTube videos.

Ubisoft is reportedly working on a new battle royale called Pathfinder

Apparently titled Pathfinder, Ubisoft’s new project would be a PvPvE shooter in the battle royale genre with a visual aspect similar to Hyper Scape but more cartoonish.

(Credit Image: Hyper Scape, Ubisoft)

According to the latest rumors, Ubisoft still hasn’t ended its luck in the battle royale genre. They are currently working on a new IP called Pathfinder, but we’ll have to be patient as the project is in a very early stage of development at Ubisoft Montreal.

The news comes from Tom Henderson via Exputer as he reveals he has personally seen images and videos of the game in action. According to him, this new IP would look a bit like Ubisoft’s latest battle royale, Hyper Scape, but more “cartoony” in nature.

Gameplay Information

Pathfinder would be a PvPvE battle royale (player versus player versus environment), meaning players would have to fight against other players but also against AIs. The game would put players in competition with each other alongside the AI generated enemies as they have to travel to the center of the map to face a final boss. To get to this boss, players must go through two walls through doors. The doors will randomly lock or not on each new game.

It is also reported that the game will feature heroes, meaning players will be able to choose which character they want to fight. Each hero will then have their own abilities that are unique to them. In addition, the game is expected to feature a Destiny-style social space where players can shop, practice at the shooting range, and interact with each other.

Pathfinder was to be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio responsible for Hyper Scape, which is set to close on April 28th. According to Ubisoft’s announcement of the closure, the team would have learned a lot from this failed battle royale project. Now let’s hope Pathfinder can prove it when and if it comes out.

The world’s first automatic tourbillon wristwatch is signed AP

To date, its titanium tourbillon cage is one of the smallest in the world with a diameter of 7.2 mm and one of the lightest, weighing just 0.123 grams.

This model is known to watch enthusiasts as the Tourbillon Automatic Râ because Jacqueline Dimier’s design gave the tiny regulator (one of the smallest ever produced) the appearance of the sun, its rays spreading across the dial.

This complicated wristwatch is produced for a few years until 1992 in 401 pieces. It opened a new avenue for Haute Horlogerie, which then revived prestigious mechanisms, including the tourbillon watches.

Thirty years after Jacqueline Dimier’s model, the AP Manufacture, known for its ability to innovate, launches a series of research and development models. In 2015, Audemars Piguet presented its first prototype, the RD#1 Royal Oak Concept Répétition Minutes Supersonnerie.

The result of eight years of research in collaboration with the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and an expert panel of watchmakers, engineers, musicians and sound specialists, this watch incorporates Supersonnerie technology.

This system, the subject of three patents, combining a percussion mechanism and an innovative cabinet architecture, marks a significant advance in terms of acoustic performance, diffusion volume and tonal beauty.

Presented at SIHH that same year, the RD#1 will enable the Manufacture to launch a year later the marketable version of the Royal Oak Concept Répétition Minutes Supersonnerie, winner of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2016 in the “Mechanical Exception”, to bring to market “category.”.

In 2019, AP launched the Royal Oak Calendar Perpetual Ultra-Thin Automatic 41mm, the innovative prototype of which was presented at SIHH a year earlier under the name RD#2.

This calendar watch, which has a case thickness of 6.3mm, houses a movement that is only 2.89mm thick, making it the thinnest automatic calendar watch in the world at the time.

To achieve this feat, the calendar features normally arranged on three levels have been merged into one. The experts at the manufactory have also developed two patented innovations relating to the integration of the month end cam in the date wheel and the assignment of the month cam to the month wheel.

The Royal Oak Calendar Perpetual Ultra-Plat Automatic marks a turning point in the history of complicated watches and will bring Audemars Piguet the Grand Prix de l’Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in November 2019.

This year, the Manufacture Le Brassus unveils its new technical breakthrough with the Royal Oak Extra-Plat Automatic Flying Tourbillon.
