Better looking, longer and more fascinating, Octopath Traveler II does everything better than its predecessor.

Posted Mar 19, 2023 8:14 am

Based on its experience with the eponymous cult “Octopath Traveler”, the Japanese studio Acquire has provided the cover for a second part, which is even better than the first. In a completely new storyline unrelated to the first part, this episode features eight characters with different origins and abilities. Their destinies intertwine on the continent of Solistia, where different cultures live side by side in an era of technological and industrial development.

The game keeps its turn-based combat system and fabulous art direction, mixing 2D and 3D graphics in pixel art with the most beautiful effects. Without revolutionizing a perfectly mastered formula, this title allows itself to go even further in the different stories offered. We would simply have wished for more novelty in the brawls, even if the latter remain noticeable and require a minimum of strategy. If this second work is a complete success, it will be necessary to raise the bar next time or tire the fans of the franchise.

All media. Acquire. Solo.

Good deal – The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 (Core i7) laptop "5 Stars" for €1,299.00 – Digital

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 (Core i7) laptop costs under €1,300 on Amazon and Boulanger.com. It’s currently one of our best value for money.

Samsung is back on the French market with its Galaxy Book2. The Pro version sports a 15.6-inch amoled panel and an Intel Core i7 processor, all measuring just under 12mm thick and weighing 1.1kg; a real feat.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 meets almost all the criteria: its impressive body does not compromise, whether in terms of performance or autonomy, and the screen is very well finished, with colors faithful to the original and an effective anti-reflective treatment. We simply regret the panel definition on this point, which is lower than that of the best laptops.

strong points

  • Perfomance.
  • Well calibrated plate.
  • perceived quality.
  • Autonomy.
  • Good connectivity.
  • Light.

weak points

  • Just decent SSD performance.
  • Screen resolution only Full HD.

alternative

The Asus ZenBook S 13 Oled is the ultra-portable par excellence thanks to an autonomy close to half a day and its powerful processor even offers the luxury of being able to play games. This Asus scion could have been absolutely perfect if its screen’s anti-reflective filter had been effective and its connectivity a little more diverse. Finally – and a minor gripe – the heat felt on the keyboard could have been better controlled.

The pillar of Denys: in 1895 cinema was born – L’Indépendant

Pink Notebook: The Thaumatrope, Phenakistiscope, Zoetrope, Praxinoscope, Pinhole, Chronophotography and their designers are pleased to announce the birth of their child, the Cinema! Officially! 1895 to be precise.

If the above barbaric names don’t mean anything to you, don’t worry, but remember to consult the site lescinephilesdedemain.fr… You will discover the wonders hidden behind these widely used words! Or take a trip to the cinema, we’d be happy to show you some of these instruments… In fact, together they were the prehistory of the 7th art!

Brothers Louis and Auguste Lumiere

Many researchers had long attempted to set images in motion to recreate life, based both on advances in photography (which appeared in the 1820s) and on scientific discoveries in human biology such as that of Joseph Plateau, who had discovered in 1829 that the retina stores an image longer than it sees it. It was now a fact: the principle of “retinal persistence” makes it possible to create the illusion of movement when the eye is exposed to 12 frames per second.

And cocorico, it was two Frenchmen, two brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumière, who were the first to invent a device that made it possible to capture images and project them to an audience… In March 1895. They filed the patent for their invention which they give the strange name Cinématographe (from Greek kinéma: movement and graphein: to write). We are not a barbaric word away…

The first public and paid screening of the cinematograph took place in Paris on December 28, 1895, marking the official birth of cinema. Capturing moving images, broadcasting them publicly for a fee, that’s cinema at the same time… On this evening of 28 euros nowadays) to watch ten films of about one minute each, including the now famous “Exit from the factories” and “The arrival of the train in the stations of La Ciotat”.

From the few spectators who came to see the performance on the first day, it grew to hundreds over the following days. There were more than 18 sessions a day. The screenings started at 10am and all Paris rushed to the cinema…

To Georges Melies

A certain Georges Méliès, whose origins in Aude and Ariège are recalled here, was one of the first 33 spectators, fascinated by this discovery and anticipating the potential uses of this device. Almost immediately he got it in his head to buy a copy of the Cinématographe, but the brothers refused to reveal the secret of their discovery. They wanted to keep the exclusive exploitation of their invention. At that time, the race to counterfeits began, but also the wonderful cinematic adventure…

It continues today before our eyes and this wonderful space inspires many directors … as evidence on the screen at the moment Sam Mendes’ declaration of love for cinema “The Realm of Light”, a reverie in beauty, strong, delicate and moving Film that the cinema team particularly recommends. Be curious, let yourself be surprised!

Arsonists are often men whose work involves fire

In serial fires, the suspects are very often people directly or indirectly associated with the fire.

Posted Mar 18, 2023 5:49pm

One of the few scientific papers on arsonists comes from a former prosecutor.

DR

Surprisingly little is known about the arsonists. According to “Switzerland at the weekend”, violent and sex offenders are increasingly being investigated. One of the few scientific papers on arsonists comes from the former Schwyz public prosecutor Lorenz Müller. He investigated 21 cases in Switzerland. And his observation is clear: in one out of five cases, the attacker was a firefighter. The profile type almost exclusively describes a man, mostly Swiss and often plagued by alcohol and drug problems. Arsonists mainly start fires in their neighborhoods. And often they set their own house on fire.

The weekly newspaper then takes up various cases of serial fires. He mentions, for example, those that took place in the water office in the canton of Solothurn. The suspect who was eventually arrested fits the typical profile, apart from his age of 47, as suspects are usually under 25 years old. But at this point, it’s possible that by his youngest age, in his forties, fires were already being started.

In the series of seven fires that recently broke out in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, it was a surveillance camera that confused a suspect. As it turned out, the man was engaged in the assembly of fire protection equipment.

There are very few 4K TV models that offer such excellent value for money as TCL’s C73 or C735 (it’s the same). Seeing a 65-inch 4K 144Hz QLED TV is a rarity in itself, but to see one so cheap is something quite unique.

People who know a little about TVs know that TCL is the best manufacturer in the world when it comes to making mid-range models that offer incredible value for money. The C73 has so impressed the small world of 4K TV professionals that it has received a prestigious award: the EISA Awards 2022 – 2023 in the Value for Money category.

For €699 you get the right to rather high-quality equipment and a large television. It’s just crazy. To reach the price of €699, consider the refund offer that will save you €100! Operating the operation is quite simple:

  • Shop the 65-inch TCL C735 for €799 at Darty.
  • Save your invoice and send it to TCL via an online form.

All the information you should remember is gathered here.

  • wait a while TCL will send you a bank transfer. And now the cost price drops to 699€!

TCL C735: a 4K QLED TV, 65 inches, 144 Hz…

Let’s start with a quick recap of the currently discounted TCL C735’s features. If you miss certain points that are a bit too technical, don’t panic: we’ll explain all of that right after.

  • 65 inches tall
  • 144Hz and HDMI 2.1
  • Outstanding color management thanks to QLED
  • Google TV, so a very ergonomic interface and all imaginable applications are there.
  • Compatibility with HDR10+ AND Dolby Vision

What ? A 65-inch 4K QLED 144Hz TV at such a low price?

The size of 65 inches corresponds to 165 cm diagonal. At JVTECH, this is our preferred size for a 4K TV. It’s larger than average, immersive and comfortable without demanding too much distance to retreat. About 2 meters is more than enough!

The Hertz represent the refresh rate of the panel. Your screen’s Hertz number clearly corresponds to the number of images the television can project per second. It’s its fluidity. PC, PS5 or Xbox series gamers are always looking for a screen with the greatest possible fluidity. Seeing a 4K television with a 144 Hz panel is extremely rare, even in the very highest price range with several thousand euros it does not offer it. To truly enjoy these fluid images, you need connectivity of the latest standards: HDMI 2.1 ports. That’s good, we find it on the C73!

What is QLED? QLED technology is often found on more premium Samsung 4K TVs. The idea is to use nanocrystals on the backlight diodes to significantly improve contrast and color rendition while maintaining a high level of brightness (best for HDR content).

It’s obviously a connected TV. TCL collaborates with Google for its operating system, so navigating through the menus is very pleasant and all possible and imaginable applications are available with a single press of the remote control.

While the C73 obviously doesn’t compete with very high-end 4K OLED or mini-LED TVs, it will appeal to those on a tighter budget. Whether it’s for gaming or watching movies and series, it’s excellent value for money.
