The flags were changed in time for the anniversary, the Italian, the European and the national ANAS highways. Now they are waving in bright colors from the streetlights along the coastal highway A 29 of northern Sicily in the cool breeze. An arrangement of flowers was also placed on the obelisk in memory of the five victims. On the day of remembrance, documentaries, newspapers and magazines broadcast on radio and television bring dossiers.

They are rituals that are used every year in memory of the “Strage di Capaci”, the “Massacre of Capaci”. On Saturday, May 23, 1992, at 5:57 pm, half a ton of explosives detonated in a storm sewer under the A 29 in the seaside resort west of Palermo, with about 11,000 inhabitants. The force of the explosion threw the first vehicle of the convoy into an olive grove. The three police officers Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinari and Vito Schifani were killed instantly. In the second vehicle were prosecutor Giovanni Falcone, 53, and his second wife Francesca Morvillo. They also died. Twenty-three people, including four other officers in Falcone’s convoy of three armored vehicles, were injured.
