Martin Scorsese’s new film tells the forgotten history of the United States

A dispute over oilrich countries serves as the starting point for Martin Scorsese’s new film. In addition to revisiting a history of violence against Native Americans “Flowermoon Assassin“It is the first time that the awardwinning director has worked with two of his favorite actors: Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.

“In this film I worked with Leonardo DiCaprio, with the Osage indigenous people, and we learned about the characters Ernst and Molly. “We also had the pandemic and it was a good time to think about how we could tell this story,” says director and screenwriter Martin Scorsese.

Based on the book “Killers of the Flower Moon: Oil, Death and the Origin of the FBI” by David Grann, the film tells the true story of the series of murders of members of the Osage tribe in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century.

With the discovery of oil wells on their land, the Osage, who lived in Oklahoma, USA, became the richest group in the world. The “black gold,” as they called it, appeared in 1897. And a decade later, what was supposed to be a source of wealth became a problem: one by one they began to eradicate.

At the center of the story is the couple, which consists of the protagonist played by DiCaprio and the Osage, played by Gladstone, the heiress to oilrich lands, and the boy’s powerful uncle (De Niro). The film premiered in Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (19).

“As I researched the trials, I realized that the crimes were not people hating each other. In many cases they occurred between people who loved each other, as in the case of Mollie and Ernst. And we tell the story as it actually happened, without preaching or political statements,” says Scorsese.

“The Osage were considered incompetent and could do nothing without someone authorizing or looking after their business. They needed someone like my character, Ernest. He cared for his wife and loved her like a husband, but he also pursued his own interests, namely her money. “This complexity of emotions is portrayed in a very interesting way in the film,” reveals DiCaprio.
